Hey all, I really want to get into rebuilding but its so confusing. I dont know which would be most simple and easy to use. Right now i use an old crown with 0.5ohm running only 35-40w. Just ordered tesla punk 220w mod. Where should i start? There are so many sizes and features and gauges of wires etc. I also need to know what tools i will need. I promise i have tried to research all this but just too much information to sort out. Thank you so much

I would suggest a single coil device. They’re simpler because you don’t have to balance coils. The conventional wisdom has been an obs engine nano for a while now, but someone reported recently they have become hard to get.

You can buy coils or make them. Coils last quite a long time so it’s still pretty efficient to buy wick and wire coils. If you want to make them though I would suggest you start with round wire. SS or kanthal, maybe 24 or 26ga. You will want something to wind the wire around too. Screwdrivers work fine. As for mandrel tools imho the best one is also the cheapest they look like this and are generally just a few bucks

Also wire cutters, and scissors to cut the cotton which you will need whether you buy or make your coils

mate you're over thinking, it's so simple.... take a 2.5 mm screwdriver bit, wrap 27 ga wire around it 7 times, screw it in to your deck and check the resistance by firing it up in little increments, once you're happy its around 1.0 ohms get your seramic tweezers, fire it up and check that all the coil is glowing together, once its good put some cotton in and vape away

RDA is the easiest to learn on as the wicking is very forgiving. What kind of draw do you prefer, tight, restricted, or loose?
I absolutely agree with your comment that a RDA (dripper) is the easiest to learn on.

OP made another post on the forum saying he was looking for a tank that he wouldn't have to fill very often because he drives a lot. So although a dripper would be easiest to learn on, he's really looking for a tank.

Earlier this year I bought my first RTA after using the crown with .5 coils for the previous years. I still use the crown but the RTA I chose was the asmodus Zesthia. It a great single coil RTA that is pretty simple to figure out. Get a coil tool with multiple rods. A pair or ceramic angled tweezers. A box of rayon for wicking. A pair of side wire clippers. A spool of 28+26 gauge ss 316l wire.

Pair of angle wire snips
Pair of ceramic tweezers
Coil jig
Pair of scissors dedicated for wicks only
Honestly wrapping a coil is easy but I advise buying pre-built coils at first. If you are going to buy wire I suggest a spool of 26g ss 316. It is the same wire your Crown uses and you already like it's taste and performance. I would buy a cheap single coil rda and an authentic single coil rta from fasttech.

This is where personal preference comes in I personally hate the multi rod mandrels. They’re expensive and they get lost. I prefer the stepped mandrels myself. As for tweezers they imho don’t have to be ceramic. Any old tweezers can work. Pointy is good though.

I completely agree. The ceramic tweezers only are needed to touch the coil whilst firing which I barely ever do and isn’t necessary. Also being ceramic makes them much more fragile than a standard metal pair. The coilmaster v4 kit I’ve got has a silicone base that holds the mandrels making them easier to keep track of. Also I forgot to mention a good pair of scissors to cut your wicking.

I just got my first rta last week, the wotofo bravo. Honestly, im quite impressed. Slightly tedious to build on at first but gets easier after a couple tries. The flavor is amazing, comes with extra glass and one wide, bubble type tank glass for larger capacity. Only problem i see is it can be a bit weepy if you lay it on its side very much. Seems to seep out around the airflow. Its very minimal though, and doesnt happen very often. An rdta would be a second option, and i do like the limitless plus, which im using right now as i type this. This one is super easy to build on which makes it ideal for a first. Good luck with whatever you choose. Vape on.

I could tell you to just get an squonker setup, but it's your journey to travel.

Squonkers sound like they'd be good for driving. I don't know much about them so I started looking at some. I saw some with 8ml bottles! I've never used an RDA before. Which Squonk regulated mod & RDA do you recommend?

The Pulse 80 is to be released soon (if not already) and the pulse 22 should be a good match. I've gone almost all mechanical, but here the buzz I've heard, for the price the new pulse 80 should be in the neighborhood of $50 and the atty is around $25. Both are designed by Tony B and his goal is good products with affordable prices.

A good RTA to learn on is the Serpent SMM.
Single coil and real easy to put the coil in and snip the ends off, just about anybody could do it.

It’s not huge air flow, but nice flavor.
I usually buy pre made SS .28 OHM coils 3mm ID, if you buy a 10 pack, it last a long time since your only using 1 at a time.

For RTAs, sometimes the easy part is putting the coil in compared to wicking it just right, it takes some practice.
