Sorry to desert you CoughingBad. Yes the first time and especially if it's a little wet you have to put a bit more juice. I find it's better to start them on a 3.7 regular battery rather than the 5.0 passthru. Once they are vaping well I switch over.
I've been ripping apart old 808 cartomizers and sampling juices all night. I have a whole kit of tweezers, thin manicure scissors, small led flashlight, and thin needle nose pliers. I have found there are 3 different types in my collection. So all 808 cartos are not alike.
I have these old V2cig blanks with hard plastic caps that are a completely different design inside. There are no wires coming up to the top and down the center core and no sealed metal center post in the middle of the battery end. The atomizer is horizontal directly over the flat hole. No wonder they leak out so much juice. The center core is just a wick covered plastic tube split half way up and glued to the bottom, so I yanked it out. This design is probably good to keep the atomizer away from the batting/filler but boy what a leaking nightmare for automatic batteries. It's designed with 1/16 inch clearance before juice comes pouring out. I took apart two of them and they are both the same
All that's left is thin wire coiled tightly around 1/4 inch wick stuck to the bottom over the hole. Once primed, I can only drip two drops, one on each side of the wick before it leaks. If I put a drop on the atomizer directly 1/2 of the drop comes out the hole. Weird design but works for a quick 3-4 drag drip, especially once it gets going.
I'm learning a lot ripping these babies apart. I'm kind of shocked how many of my saved washed cartomizers are actually burnt inside. Standard cartos probably shouldn't be vaped on a 5V USB passthru.
I can't wait until the adapters and 501 attys come, that's probably much easier.
