Well I finally broke down and got a couple of syringes, along with some 1.5" 18 guage needles to try filling some carrots. I can understand why you need syringes because there is no hole in the carrots to drip into and they don't fit into a condom. What I don't understand is how do you attach them to the batteries and where does the drip tip go?
So as I mentioned I picked up some syringes, mine came pre-needled with 3/4" 16 guage needles so I removed those and replaced them with the 18 guage. I tried to get blunt needles but D & B Supply didn't carry those.
Seems pretty straight forward, as long as the 30ml bottle is 3/4s full you can place the needle right thru the dropper and draw up juice. If the bottle is half empty you will have to remove the dropper cap to access the juice. I only did a carto at a time, so I drew up 1 ml, placed the needle between the pfill and the housing all the way down until it hit the base of Carto and slowly depressed the plunger.
Filling was painless (didn't stick myself
) some cartos took 1 ml and I could see juice saturate the pfill all the way up to the top. While others took 1 ml but the left the top of the pfill dry, so I just placed a drop or two on the fill so it was fully saturated.
I have never used gloves while refilling, about the only thing needed is a piece of papertowel to remove the dropper cap (if needed) and a small glass of water to clean out the syringe.
All in all a pretty cool and quick way to refill. I did try and clean some cartos out and dry some out with a syringe, but it didn't work very well on that end.
It goes without saying that a person should always be careful handing any syringe with a pointed needle. That being said, the only possible issue of sticking ones self comes when holding the carto and inserting the needle in between the pfill and housing.
I don't know if I would travel with a syringe or how handy it is for the occasional top-off, but I certainly believe it is indeed a great tool for refilling.
So hats off to Salleyem, Jeffree, Wader, and Maxwell! Still haven't told the wife for fear of ridicule, might have to keep it a secret for awhile.
