I tell everyone I meet about it and I havent had any negative comments.. I have to get a lot of taxis and i always ask the driver if they smoke.. if the answer is no the reply often comes back with a disgusted look and even they, when I tell them why I was asking, think its a great idea. i never say ive stopped smoking though.. I just say now I smoke vapour with nicotine and whatever lovely flavour I want! So smoking without the guilt! I even have people who dont smoke say "ooh that sounds nice I might have to try it"! lol

I don't know if you consider 65 "very old". I have days that I feel 20 and others that I feel 90! Anyway, for me the damage has been done. I had bladder cancer 5 years ago and a melanoma on my lip a couple years ago. The cancers are gone for now. I'm told both are from smoking. I haven't quit completely, maybe 1 or 2 a month. It just goes to show it's never too late to teach an old dog new tricks!

my dad (smoked for 40 years) said my e-cig was "bullsh*t" and I "should just be a man and quit!"
.......he's old, I have two fully grown kids and a business I built from the ground up. he was a civil servant ...er..... civil service employee for 35 years, I still love him....aint no big thing. In a way, I feel he lost out on never enjoying a pure nic hit from an e-cig, so he could be enjoying his nic today if he hadn't quit. But I have a feeling the e-cig is is not a tool for the very old though...agreed?

On the contrary sattic...why would an e-cig not be for the very old? No lighters or matches to drop, no burning cigarette to drop, no threat of an elderly person dropping something like that and not being able to recover it quickly enough to prevent harm. I would definitely give an e-cig to an elderly person if they were still smoking. They may need help to take care of the maintenance, maybe fill their carts for them, but they would not be in danger of a lit cigarette setting the furnriture or, God forbid, themselves on fire.

It just occurred to me, nobody ever went around bad-mouthing someone that smoked regular cigarettes instead of my light tar and nicotine creation from the Prestigious Phillip Morris Company!!! What is this?? I just had to explain to a guy this week-end, that no, I don't smoke, I just fog a little. Tried to make it sound like an improvement. I guess if you just call it an inhaler, it sounds cleaner, maybe. People who quit the hard way maybe do have a gripe about it, but then, did they quit, or did they just quit. They like to make it sound like you should feel guilty for doing it the easy way?? What's easy, I gotta worry about having a fully-charged battery, and juice, you kidding?? It can be fun.
Ferretlovr, I don't consider 65 all that old. I'm post-62, myself. Nice that you're here.

I am so proud of myself for being smoke-free for 11 days, but it seems like some people just want to knock you down anyway.

Whenever some one asks how the no-smoking is going, I enthusiastically reply how many days it's been, and the first response I get is "so when are go gonna stop using that e-cig thing?" Well......... I don't want to stop!! I might eventually like to get down to zero nic, but I LIKE the e-cig! I find it relaxing and enjoy the different flavors.

I have given up explaining the benefits of e-cigs because apparently these people will not believe it. So my question is, how do you deal with these people. Does anyone have any great witty comebacks?

simply let them try it if they smoke

In my experience, going out to clubs and creating friendships with non-smokers is way easier with this little device in my hand instead of an analog! Sometimes non-smoking women used to put up a fight a little if I asked to buy them a drink, right after taking a smoke-break; nowadays, the smell is completely gone from me and my clothes, most are much more receptive :) gotta love being 21.(and saving my health!) -j4mmin

This might work:

Uhmm... you know what they say:

Killing a ..... gives you only momentary pleasure, and it's bound to get you talked about

:D

Back to topic, just laugh at them and ask them if they already stopped beating up their kids?

Yes: so, how long you did beat up your kids?
No: so you still beat up your kids?

Some people just enjoy putting other people down,or are just jaleous, who knows, who cares....

Again, just my 2 cents worth

..... I pointed to the beer can in his had, and asked when he's going to give *that* up. He didn't have an answer.
The first time a close non-smoking friend of mine saw my e-cig was in the pub and I explained the basics (ie still nicotine, but none of the rest of the crap). He replied " But....... it's a drug!" My reply "So what's that on the bar in front of you?" (gesturing to his pint): his reply "Fair point!" (as he took a slurp and we carried on with our evening) :)

It's amazing to me how "conditioned" people have become against any form of personal freedom, they don't even initially care about facts anymore.

I loved smoking, just didn't like the smell or the fact that I couldn't do it anywhere anymore. Never cared about the 4000 chemicals or health risks. Everyone in my family smokes, only one out of all of them had any smoking related health issues, the rest lived to old age and still smoked. More of us have weight related issues than smoking related issues, but that doesn't stop me from eating.

Recently I took up snus too to fill those gaps where I cannot vape and the very first comment I got was, "but now you will get oral cancer and lose 1/2 your face!" He didn't even know what snus was, just the fact that it was smokeless tobacco was enough. I enlightened him and sent him a couple links and told him that I wasn't going to quit smoking, but now this is safer, so given the alternative I am happy with my decision.

My GF, whom I actually am quitting for as she's pregnant, still asks when I am going to quit my e-cig. She was a "casual" smoker - whom, in my experience are often WORSE than non-smokers because when they up and "quit" they can't understand how hard it is for full time smokers to quit - thinks I should just quit "cold turkey".

I just explain to her that this is by far the easiest transition I have encountered of all the times I tried to quit before (pills, patch, gum, etc). I explain that after 25+ years of steady smoking I need to transition, not quit all at once. She claims that my e-cig is still smoking but has no complaints about me vaping in the house whereas I would never have smoked in the house.

I tell her that I am keeping my word and that's that. As for what anybody else thinks, I would kindly tell them to F**K OFF and be done with it! :D

i've posted this before, but i think its worth repeating...

if you say i quit smoking using this nicotine inhaler (pointing at your e-cig) most people say WOW thats great

if you say i quits smoking using this electronic cigarette (pointing at your e-cig) most people say hmmm when you gonna give that up...

That is an excellent point that also shows just how idiotic some people are. I am going to start using this line. Thank you for sharing!:thumb:
