I am so proud of myself for being smoke-free for 11 days, but it seems like some people just want to knock you down anyway.

Whenever some one asks how the no-smoking is going, I enthusiastically reply how many days it's been, and the first response I get is "so when are go gonna stop using that e-cig thing?" Well......... I don't want to stop!! I might eventually like to get down to zero nic, but I LIKE the e-cig! I find it relaxing and enjoy the different flavors.

I have given up explaining the benefits of e-cigs because apparently these people will not believe it. So my question is, how do you deal with these people. Does anyone have any great witty comebacks?

I think the answer is right there in your question. :)

Congrats on being tobacco free!

Have no intention of quitting, I don't want to quit, I like to smoke, I do plan to get rid of the nicotine though, something I could never do with cigs, you can't get zero nic cigs.
My plans are to get off the cancer sticks, then get down to zero nic, then just puff on this ecig when I feel like puffing. So far I have a pack of Salems I've had since Thursday. It's now Sunday 6pm..
Still have 4 left. These things work..

I get that too, tlc. My best friend thinks PVs are almost as bad as analogs, my brother says vaping is like I quit smoking by 90%. Once I give up the nic juice he'll call it 99% quit.

I'm proud of you (11 days is awesome!) and proud of myself. Others can only bring us down if we let them. So let's make a pact not to let them!!

Bristow, Ok.
I have heard that a lot of people that have gastric bypass surgery start drinking, gambling, shopping or pick up another addictions. I think vaping is not such a bad habit to have. I think everyone I know has some kind of addiction. I have a friend who is a compulsive cleaner. It is actually fun when everything is working right. So just Vapon and enjoy yourself.

Really you can. They are/were called "Quest". I think it was a 3,2,1 reduction system. All of the chemicals and taper down to no nicotine. That seems really funny now. I used the "0 Nic" with "Smoke Away" the last time I quit. (Lasted 4 months) I had them in the freezer and stuck a pack in my glove box when I bought my NPRO... just in case. They are still there. ;)

I haven't said anything to anyone I know. Yes - There is a lot of people out there that get great joy out of other people failing Intentional or unintentional - Most grown adults know what I'm saying.

That sentiment is so prevalent that the Germans have a word for this: "Schadenfreude" literally translated "Damage happiness".

my dad (smoked for 40 years) said my e-cig was "bullsh*t" and I "should just be a man and quit!"
.......he's old, I have two fully grown kids and a business I built from the ground up. he was a civil servant ...er..... civil service employee for 35 years, I still love him....aint no big thing. In a way, I feel he lost out on never enjoying a pure nic hit from an e-cig, so he could be enjoying his nic today if he hadn't quit. But I have a feeling the e-cig is is not a tool for the very old though...agreed?

Yea, I've gone 13 days analog-free and everyone I work with still thinks I am smoking every time I pull out my e-cig. Its like,' Guys, I am not smoking. I haven't smoked since the 23rd...I vape.." Then they look at me weird like what the hell is he talking about. But I have been working with some of the local businesses here in Colorado springs to allow e-smoking... liquidx in the Product and Design forum came up with a very simple yet effective sign... and I've created a simplistic bumper sticker that simply says "I'd Rather be Vaping". But, for your situation, just simply explain to them the facts. You are only vaping Nicotine, Water, PG, and whatever flavor you enjoy. And you could even list off some of the chemicals that you AREN'T inhaling like acetone, tar, ammonia, and the other cancer-causing additives.... One person even said that a doctor thinks that their hospital should carry them for smokers who cannot leave the hospital but still need their nicotine fix...

Ive always told those people (mainly coworkers) that I was cutting my nicotine down more and more and may quit all together, but its still better than smoking by miles. So far most of them have given me weird looks in the break room while I use it but other than that its not an issue. Hell apparently one of my managers wants to know what it is and where to get it but is too afraid to ask, hah. Too bad she is a complete ..... or I would go up to her. Its been 104 days clean and between me and the wife we have saved close to 1300 dollars (not counting the 80-120 Ive spent on parts, the initial cost was covered by the stepdad)

Hi tlc, Velcommen!
Ok, here, the same trouble, "you're still smoking"...no combustion, no stink, no butts, no ash, no brown teeth, no yellow walls and ceilings, ash trays, burned carpets and clothes, my closet is smelling more like my fabric softner, which I can now smell, no coughing, no chronic bronchitis and sinus infections, capillaries on my face opening up so my "mask" is gone, no dark circles and puffy eyes, food tastes better, alert, brain works better, sleep better, work better, people let me hold their babies, not climbing the walls and crying in the bathroom to try to quit smoking and no drugs to fight the depression, my nicotine intake is about 1/10th compared to cigarettes, my blood pressure lowered and my short temper has mellowed except when people ask stupid questions!!
Look below, this is the best part:

Well, I think that you should just wish them a warm "Go and ... yourself". If they keep questioning your habits, ask them when they are going to quit:

- Eating those laird fried burgers
- Drinking liquid sugar re-branded as soda
- Drinking "spring bottled water" which is probably coming from the ditch behind the bottling factory
- Eating the cheapest frozen food they can find at "foodmart"
- Jogging on the side of the street at rush hour, breathing in whatever those diesel trucks are puffing out
- Drinking ... driving while drinking
- Sleeping 5 hours a night just to be able to stay 14 hours at work and hoping for the big promotion
- Using gallons of weedkiller on the lawn... half of it ends up in the house on their shoes.
- Did I mention snorkeling coco?
- Etc...Etc.
- Sitting on a couch for the rest of the day, after 14 hours of work, buying stuff from TV pitchmen

After all this, wish them a good day and walk away. :)

In the end it really is a matter of what YOU think about it. I been vaping for a couple months and my wife still bugs me saying stuff like "Well you didn't really quit, you're still doing it!"

Most people really just don't understand what the e-cig really stands for to most of us. At least for me, it's more about freedom, and I'm not talking about vaping in Wal-Mart. I'm talking about the freedom to enjoy smoking, and I mean TRULY enjoy it, without knowing in the back of my head that every time I suck one down I'm taking minutes or hours or days off my life. That feels good.

I have no intent of halting my vaping habit.

Seriously - people are very jaded. It's like they're really asking you "when you're gonna stop putting a long cylindrical thing in your mouth every so often." I wonder if they have the same reactions to pencil biters. I wonder why it's so irritating to some people even when there's no lingering smell.

I must be getting older. I keep thinking people should work a little harder on minding their own damn business. People bug each other about bad habits because no one wants to think about their own habits and this is an easy way to think better of themselves - even when one of our bad habits have transformed into a less bad habit... :-x

My responses vary, but if I want to make someone feel dumb I drill them on what the proven (or even suspected) harmful affects of nicotine are besides addiction (which is because it's so damn good :] ).

I can't post links just yet, but go on wikipedia and go to the Toxicology section on the Nicotine page.

It is impossible however to overdose on nicotine through smoking alone
The currently available literature indicates that nicotine, on its own, does not promote the development of cancer in healthy tissue and has no mutagenic properties.
Now I'm of course it's not healthy, nothing is, but most people are up in arms because cigarettes have become so taboo in america that they are ready to bandwagon and believe it's all horrible. My response is that the scariest thing to me is Alzheimer's disease.

Move on down to Therapeutic Uses on that wiki page and you'll see it's much longer..

With regard to neurological diseases, evidence suggests that the risk of developing Parkinson's disease or Alzheimer's disease might be 50% lower in smokers, compared to non-smokers.

Now what would you rather, be addicted to nicotine, or develop alzheimers? (Which in my opinion is one of the scariest things ever).

I have other comebacks but I figured something intelligent would be nice.

Typical conversation with other smokers:

Q:What the hell is that?
A: An electonic cigarette

Q: Hmmm, I've heard of that, does it work?
A: Yes, it is great. I don't smoke cigarettes anymore.

Q: But it still looks like you are smoking, how does it work?
A: (Quick explanation of batt, att & cart)

Q: So you are still smoking, aren't you?
A: No, it is not smoke, it only looks like smoke. Can you smell it?
A: Well yeah, a little bit, it smells OK though.

Q: Where can I get one????

This is the basic conversation I have with other smokers, non-smokers are a little tougher to deal with.

What needs to be hammered home to the non-smokers is "NO MORE SMOKE". The reasons all of you non-smokers hated (objected to) us smokers is now out the window. Your previous objections do not exist with this technology.

Same here for conversations with other smokers.

In my experience is the people who try and judge and say oh it's not healthier at all because they are so set on the fact that anything related to cigarettes must be just as deadly. And this annoys me quite a bit because it's ignorance, it shows they absorbed all the bs that gets fed to them, like absolute it's truth.
