Hey guys! Just curious about what you guys feel defines a 'high end' device?

Not trying to start any arguements here! So please keep everything civil, these are only opinions and we are all entitled to our own opinions!

Thankies! [:

My opinion of something high end, would be a device that uses superior materials and/or craftsmenship in the product, as well as innovative ways to utilize the materials/craftsmenship. I guess if that makes sense [:

A lot of mods like that are not considered high end though. The ageis series is one example, but there are others.

Do idiots collect them hoping they will be worth more than they paid for them in the future.
...wait, that’s collectible. Often confused with high end though. Maybe anything that cost ten times more than the clone that imitates it?

I agree too, Ive noticed a lot of people see a high price point on a vape item, that they automatically call it high end when theirs nothing different from said item and many others but the high price point.

I find it to be subjective. There's a saying one mans highend is another mans lowend.

One example is some 3D printed mods, there are some that are considered highend, but some people think it's plastic crap. So again it's a subjective topic. Personally I'm attracted to 3D printed mods, but I can't seem to score one from facebook. ugh

Well...ProVape mods used to be considered high end by many people, because of their craftsmanship, materials, and reliability, as well as their cost. But, as ProVape was preparing to close up shop...they were selling them for Blowout prices. So did that mean they were no longer considered "high end" because their price was much lower? To me, nope, it didn't.

To me the definition is clear. "High End" means Quality and as such should check all the boxes:

[ ] Do all of the functions of the device work RELIABLY? (Does what it should when it should)
[ ] Are all of the functions ACCURATE? (Ohms reading, Wattage as set, Temp as set, etc.)
[ ] Is the device DEPENDABLE? (Does the product usually last a long time?)

If it checks all 3 it's high end.
If it checks 2 it's mid range.
If it checks 1 it's low end.
If it checks 0 it's a SMOK mod.

If the production requires a craftsman, it's high end.

If the production is automated or can be done by unskilled workers, it's not high end.

Definition of craftsman will vary, but here are examples:

Vicious Ant Mech Squonker (simple, no extra features, but requires someone that knows wood working or machining to make the enclosure, and electrical work to build the insides) = high end

Pulse BF (plastic parts are made in molds, and pieces assembled by unskilled workers in a mass production environment) = low end

This usually reflects in the price, because paying a skilled person and using good materials costs more; but deals are always to be had so it's not always the case.

Haha [ ] Does the device try and burn your house down destroying everything(/one) that you love and possibly killing you in the process.

The SMOK check box haha

To me that is more the definition of "artisan" which means requires a crafts man and usually made in small batches. Mercedes Benz is considered a "high end" car but is still a mass produced large batch car. It would not be an "artisan" car though.

To me artisan = high end for vaping

It's same with almost anything. The kitchen table I buy made by a craftsman is high end. The kitchen table I buy at Walmart with particle board machine cut pieces, and fasteners i'm using to put it together at home, is not.

Look at a Bentley or Ferrari. The seats are hand sewn and fitted for each car by a 'tailor'. My Hyundai has seat covers sewn by machine and assembled by a regular factory worker.

My high end tea is picked by hand and then dried over an open fire roaster by a dude with no teeth who's been doing it for 45 years. My not high end tea is harvested by machines and rolled into an oven by a conveyor belt.

I am not saying that artisan can't be high end, I am just saying that it doesn't have to be artisan in order to be high end. DNA boards are arguably the highest of high end boards, yet they are mass produced and used to power most of those artisan mods you are talking about. So to me ANY mod, mass produced or hand crafted with a DNA board in it is a high end mod.

That's subjective and I guess that's why this discussion happens at all.

I personally don't consider a device high end just because it has a DNA chip. Something like the paranormal, for me, is a good device within a range of non-high end devices. But if you take that chip and put it into a mod that requires a craftsman (i.e. commissioned mod in stabwood), it becomes high end.

Again, in my opinion.

I like some of the definitions already posted, but would like to offer some alternatives:

If it costs more than a particular person can afford or is willing to spend, then it's probably "high end" to that person. Of course the threshold for this varies from person to person, i.e, it's "subjective".

At one time it may also have involved how far ahead of the pack a product was in terms of technology. A Provari was "high end" in this respect when it was introduced.

From Dictionary.com:
subjective
  1. existing in the mind; belonging to the thinking subject rather than to the object of thought (opposed to objective).
  2. pertaining to or characteristic of an individual; personal; individual:a subjective evaluation.
opinion
  1. a belief or judgment that rests on grounds insufficient to produce complete certainty.
  2. a personal view, attitude, or appraisal.
