How do you determine which MG Nic Strength to get?

Been vaping about 2 weeks now, but I am SURE I am getting too much Nicotine. I ordered a few different flavors all at 26mg strength. I smoked 1 pack a day of Winston Lights for 15 years. How do you determine what strength of juice to get to equal out to that. I'd like to start cutting down my nicotine intake, not ramping it up. Any help is appreciated, as always!

Well, it is easy to be sure with nicotine. The headaches, tummy aches, and hiccups are great warning signs that you're getting too much. Much easier to gauge than caffine even though both effect the body much the same way.

So, why don't you order a lower nic juice or obtain some PG or VG and cut it yourself? (Note cutting with PG/VG will also cut flavor)

You can even get the same flavors in lower nic and mix your high and low together so you step down slowly.

I started on a 15ml bottle of 36mg and few samplers at 24mg. I just gradually started ordering less and less nicotine juice.

I would just keep decreasing the nic. as low as possible while still satisfying you.

The best way I have found is to get juice and a doubler from tastyvapor then you can find exactly what strength you like and mix it yourself.

I smoked a pack a day too. But I can't be alone in saying that I vape more than I smoked. For instance, I never smoked inside, while working, etc. When not working, I figured one cig an hour. Now I can vape all day long if I want to.

I use 18 or 16 mg now. Sometimes a 24 mg in the morning and try to use a 11 mg near bedtime.

If you've got the shakes or insomnia, that's too much nicotine.

Can you figure it differently and just go by how many mls of juice you are using. For instance, how long does it take for you to consume a 10ml bottle of juice? I figure for me, thats around 5 days, so 2ml a day, 60ml a month.

Theres some calculations about comparing cigs to juice and link around here somewhere, will let you know if I find it.

None of us can say what is good for YOU personally - despite the fact that people have lol - because we are NOT you and what works for each of us is specific to us alone.
I smoked ultra lights, a pack a day, and 24mg was way too high - 12mg is much better for ME.
Your body will tell you what is best for YOU, experiment with levels (buy small sample sized bottles to save money) until you find a good one.
The advice on what is 'too much' is right though; headaches, shakes, feelings of anxiety, anger, hiccups, indegestion, 'the runs' are all indicative of too much nicotine.
Too little nicotine will have you craving smokes.
People often recommend 24mg as a starting point, nothing wrong witht hat advice, but there is no 'cookie cutter' spec that goes by how much you smoked; you just have to find YOUR 'right' level by experimenting. That can be fun too - you can taste new flavors while you're at it :)
GOod luck!

So this is what I have and what I want to try. If anyone can help me get from point A to point B, I'd love ya forever! I have a 3 ml bottle of Vanilla PG from Cignot. 26 mg. Since I smoked Winston Lights, I found a site that said that the nic level in those was .7mg. I smoked 1 pack a day. 20 cigs x .7mg = 14mg/day of Nicotine, right?
What I'm not sure of is the levels of PG, VG, Water, Flavor, etc of the Cignot juice. Bottle does not tell me. What do I do to "cut" that down. ALL of my juices are from Cignot that I just received today (5-7-10). I'd like to try to cut them down in nic level to what I am used to smoking.

New guys need an idea of nic. level to start.

DVap has researched it & come up w/ a good formula.
EXAMPLE
DVap said:
We had 20 full flavor analogs per day delivering 20 mg of nicotine per day. I've found that we need to vape 2.5X the nicotine, or 50 mg/day, so we might vape ~2.5 mL of 20 mg or ~1.5 mg of 36 mg. We're putting ~ 50 mg of nicotine onto the atomizer coil because of that 50 mg, only 40% or 20 mg of nicotine makes it into the vapor and into our bodies. So by vaping 50 mg of nicotine per day, we are delivering 20 mg of nicotine per day to our bodies.
Most are vaping 2-3ml/day.

So a good starting point for 20/day full flavor is 24mg.

Lights cigs. are considered 1/2 so a good starting point for 20/day lights is 12mg.

In discussions of "proper nicotine strength" the equally important variable of vaping behavior is usually left out. Your nic intake is roughly a product of the nic strength plus how much liquid you vape in a given day. I would suggest that if 26 mg seems like too much nic for a pack a day smoker, that person is probably vaping quite a bit. I do not advise trying to cut down on the vaping because that exercise will not net you much health benefit and will increase the risk of returning to analogs. So the nic strength can be reduced. But be careful there. I tried a 12 mg. strength bottle, and whenever I vape that particular liquid I vape almost twice as often, and I do it unconsiously. If you find that lowering the nic strength causes you to vape more often, then you may as well increase it again because all you are doing is costing yourself more $$ in the longrun. Anyway, don't be sucked into assuming that just because you lowered the nic strength you are "tapering" your nicotine. Pay attention to how much liquid you are going through per day!

I have a quick question...If I want to buy just flavoring and add nicotine to it would you recommend a bottle of low, med or high??? I'm at low now and want to work my way down to zero.

If I get low and mix it with flavor (say 10 drops of nicotine and 10 drops of flavor) wouldn't that put me at 7mg of nicotine (instead of 14mg/low) because I'm starting out with 14mg and cutting it in half with the flavoring???

So if that is the case, if I want lower than low...get a bottle of low nicotine to mix but if I want low (14mg) I would want to get a bottle of medium (28mg) so that when I add flavoring I can cut it in half to low (14mg)....right?

O and also...would adding plain nicotine cut down on the flavor??? I'm assuming it will, but just double checking just in case I'm wrong. I know that a lot of ppl are saying not to cut the flavoring more than in half because of losing flavor and throat hit. If adding nicotine won't cut the flavoring, would it be possible to add nicotine AND then cut it in half with VG?? Or is this adding too much to the flavoring???

My first question is, what is "flavoring" to you? Flavoring is quite powerful stuff and mixing it at 50% sounds down right nasty, but if you are talking about flavored 0-nicotine juice, then I don't see an issue.

An analogy: Flavoring is like KoolAid powder. Mix a few ounces of powder to a gallon of water, great stuff. Mix a few ounces of powder to a few ounces of water, nasty stuff.

If you are thinking about getting some Tasty Vapor nic juice and flavored doubler, I think you are on the right track.

If you are thinking about buying flavoring and mixing it to reduce your nicotine strength, then you are on the wrong track.

If you do want to mix your own, please read up on it first. You may want to start at http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/diy-e-liquid/74109-guide-diy-flavoring.html . It will give you a basic overview of mixing with flavors.

I buy my e-juice from Ms.T's Bakery (which she ONLY uses VG and PG)...that is what I consider "flavoring". I would be buying zero nicotine bottles of whatever flavor I want from Ms.T then adding nicotine that I would also be buying from her (I can buy levels of low (14mg), med (28mg) and high (3?mg)....and adding THAT nicotine to the zero nicotine flavoring.

I have a e-juice calculator which explains a lot of what is on the link you sent me and it doesn't help.

So my original ?'s:

If I want to buy just flavoring and add nicotine to it would you recommend a bottle of low, med or high??? I'm at low now and want to work my way down to zero.

If I get low and mix it with flavor (say 10 drops of nicotine and 10 drops of flavor) wouldn't that put me at 7mg of nicotine (instead of 14mg/low) because I'm starting out with 14mg and cutting it in half with the flavoring???
