Hello, I am new to e-cigs, trying to quit analogs. So far, so good. I got Blu's Classic tobacco disposable to try and I like it. The only thing is, when you smoke a regular cigarette, it burns down and it is obvious when you have smoked one cigarette, but with an e-cig, how do you know when to stop? In other words, how do you know (approximately) when you have smoked an equivalent of one regular cigarette? Do you count how many puffs you take? Does not seem practical. Are there any e-cigs out there that have a sensor or a counter of some sort that displays how many puffs you have taken? Thanks.

Some of the higher end variabe voltage variable wattage mods have 'puff counters' on them on a digital display. But that would not be a great way to count nicotine ingestion i would think; you have so many variables involved. Nic level of the juice, how much is being vaporized by your e cig,how big a draw you take, how long you hold it before exhaling, etc. My best advice would be you just vape to you feel satisfied. Bear in mind though from what ive read it takes a little longer for the nicotine to be absorbed when vaping than from smoking.

I can't answer, because I may have smoked my cigarette differently that you did yours. I wasn't a chain smoker, but being in transition to ecigs I know I tend to have the unit in my hand/close at hand more so than I did the real thing. I look at my PV as a nicotine delivery device: when I've had enough nicotine to satisfy myself, I put it down for awhile. YMMV.

Interesting question, and one I have not really thought about. I usually just vape whenever I get the urge - much like I used to smoke when I got the urge. The only real difference is while I pick up my PV and vape more often than I used to go out for a smoke, I will usually take only a couple pulls from my PV, whereas I would stay outside and smoke a cigarette until it was gone.

Short answer is, at least for me, is not to worry about it. Vape when you have the urge and enjoy it.

I was wondering the same thing when I first started vaping (and I am one of those that put down cigarettes when I got my first vape kit). I agree with Merrick, there's not a good way to tell. There are some higher end units that give you a puff count, but as stated above, there are a lot of variables, not the least of which is the nicotine level of the liquid you use.

The best way, IMO, is to gauge by your satisfaction. That could be 2 puffs, it could be 20. You have to experiment a little, and put yourself in a little bit different frame of mind (instead of, the cigarette's done, I'm done, it's just I feel satisfied, I'm done).

Good luck on your journey and welcome to ECF! :)

you are not looking at it correctly. forget what an analog gives you. you are now self medicating yourself with nicotine. if the dosage you are using is capable of making you put down the cigs permanently?, you are now detoxing from tobacco, and managing the nicotine habit. your body will tell you when u have had enough. if you get a tightness in your chest, a little shaky, and feeling wonky?, you have had enough nicotine. put the vaporizer down. hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. and i'm sure you have read it on here by now. DUMP THE BLU'S. get a real starter kit and do it right. those blu cartridges are nothing but a rip off. and can lead to total failure, and return to the unspeakables.

If your concerned about getting too much nicotine, take it slowly and just try to feel when your body has had enuff. If you overdo it,you'll know, just like when you had a binge night of too many cigarettes(im thinking all us ex smokers have had at least one of those). You'll hit the slightly rapid heartbeat, dizziness, queasiness, headache stage long before you would be in any danger of a nic overdose.
If your just curious about how much you take in, most vapers from what I have read seem to base their consumption on ml used per day. Currently I'm at about 2 ml using 24mg nic strength.

Interesting. I thought it was the opposite. I just started, but every time I tried an e-cig, I got a head buzz, I thought it was the nicotine getting into my system faster, or was it something else? Any ideas? Thanks.

Not sure exactly, may be the vaper is preventing you lungs from getting a large dose of air when you inhale, the lightheadedness would be akin to holding your breath for a while.

To clarify, by "head buzz" I mean that I get light headed. I just tried it again and got a little light headed again. Is it normal?

This happens to me every time, regardless of how much or how little nic is in my juice. I smoked a pack a day Camel Filters (1.8-2 mg of nic per cig) and I am getting buzzed on 18mg juice. Not really enjoyable, but I'm dealing with it.

I will say that I caved last night for the 1st time in 2 wks, had 1/2 an analog before bed, and when I stood up I almost fell over from dizziness, so I don't really know what the deal is with that.

I am trying to quit American Spirits, Sage Pack Medium Filter. It shows that it contains 1.67 mg of nicotine, or 33.4 mg of nicotine per 1 pack. The disposable Blu that I got says that it contains approximately 20-24 mg of nicotine and approximately 400 puffs. 22/400 = 0.055. So, is it correct to assume that one Blu disposable is approximately equivalent (a little less) to smoking one pack of American Spirits? Thanks.

You can't really equate an e-cig to a cigarette. I know everyone wants to when they first get started, but you just can't. It's apples and oranges. The only real commonality is nicotine, which is not necessarily measured the same way in both, and you absorb it mush less readily from an e-cig. Even if you knew the nic level was the same, you're going to have to vape a lot more of it to get the same level in your body.

I think this is one of the reasons I prefer e-cigs.
I used to smoke an analog cig until I was satisfied. Then I either had to put it out before it was done, which felt like a waste; or finish it off for the sake of not wasting it. With an e-cig that's no longer an issue. Also there were many times I'd light up an analog cig and then something would come up. In that instance I would usually snuff it out and save for later, but that always tasted bleh. Now if something comes up right after I start to vape I just turn off my e-cig and I'm good to go.
