I'm using blunt tip syringes to do my measuring. 3mL and 5mL in size. I tend to be using the 3mL more because it can accurately measure in .1mL increments. But it gets very difficult with dark juices against those dark lines.

I also find it easiest to mix in 10mL bottles because 10 is easily divided.

How do you do your measuring?

Also anyone know where I can find cheap 3mL blunt tip syringes with plunger? I only have one right now that I paid $3-4 for from an e-liquid vendor so I know they can be found cheaper.

You can find single use syringes in bulk on ebay, they're pretty cheap if you get old stock that can no longer be considered perfectly sterile. Your blunt tip needles will fit right on them. I suggest getting Luer Lock syringes that your needle will "screw" onto. It prevents leaks. You can also try a farm supply store (we have Fleet Farm around here), they tend to carry syringes for pretty cheap. You can even get needles there, but they won't be blunt. You can blunt them yourself, just search youtube.

Needles and syringes are not controlled, anyone can buy them. Just look around, you'll find 'em :2cool:

I mix 30MLs at a time. Then as soon as its done I cut into 5 6ml bottles close one up and leave the rest open till I use it. 30 mls last me about 8-10 days.
I agree with you 10 is easily divided that is why I use 100mg nic I only use 6 ml for 20mg/ml in 30 ml mix. Lowest measurement I have to do is 1.5 ml of vodka and 1.5 distilled. I not too worried bout it tho as long as they both add up to 3 I am good. I not sure where you can get 3ml syringes but I got mine from CVS. IF you lucky you can get em free just ask the pharmacy center for measuring syringes.

Diyflavorshack has 1ml syringes if that helps

I'm using a veterinary syringe that I bought for a couple of bucks from a supplier. It's probably 15 or 20 ml. The markings have worn off from handling. You have to recalibrate it at that point. The drug stores sell calibrated plastic test tubes for measuring various liquids. You might look around the pharmacy for a display. You could measure a milliliter at a time and pour it into the syringe, then scratch and fill the scratch with red permanent marker or apply some narrow pinstriping tape around the marks.

Or, you could just buy a syringe with readable markings! Dayglo orange or bright white would be good :)

Thanks guys I really didn't do a whole lot of research before posting that question. Turns out you can buy them on amazon very inexpensively. Thank you for the replies though.

As for the rest of the question. How do you guys measure and mix? The same as me or do you use a different method?

Yup, Same as you, I use syringes to do my mixing. If I am doing a 5 ml test batch there are times when I will use drops for the flavorings, but I do my best to avoid drops as they are not very accurate.

I use a variety of measuring tools.

For small test batches I use a 1mL syringe with 22 gage needle which can reach to the bottom of the flavoring bottles. For the VG and PG I use either a 1mL calibrated medicine dropper or a 3mL syringe with a 14 gage blunt needle.

(one of these fine days I'll break down and get a pipette pump)

For large batches I use 10mL and 30mL syringes with 14 gage needles and a 50mL graduated cylinder.

I use ejuice me up calculator to tell me the volumes required

I then use a syringe to measure in the ML stated by the ejuice me up software to mix

I never use drops for measuring its far to inaccurate..

Very good point. Although drops are still used for some things, they should never be used when precision is called for. The more drops you count out, the farther from the mark you are.

I’m kinda the opposite of this…

I realized very quickly that being within .1ml when DIY-ing a juice was not needed or even noticeable. I also got tired of washing Syringes and Graduated Cylinders.

So I adjusted my recipes for drops. Yes, I know that all drop sizes are Not the same size. But what does it matter?

By this I mean if my recipe calls for 28 drops of 48mg Nicotine out of the 120ml Nicotine bottle, 62 drops of VG/PG out of the VG/PG bottle, 14 drops of Flavor Art Flavor out of the Flavor Art Bottle and 6 Drops of Sucralose out of the Sucralose bottle, who cares if the drops are different sizes?

The juices tastes good and the recipe is repeatable. And there is nothing to wash.

I use 1ml and a 10ml oral syringes with a dosage kork.

Liquid Medication Tools

I have tried syringes with needles, pipette and pump, measuring cups, cylinders, etc and the oral syringe and dosage kork setup work best.

I bought a bunch of them and put a kork on each bottle I use.

If you go with the syringe and kork method you must paint clear finger nail polish over the graduations because they will wear off after only a few uses.

I still use a 1ml and 10ml syringe and needle for some jobs, I found some nice glass ones that I like.

Drop size does vary widely depending on the type of bottle. If you have ever used that bottle with a syringe needle, the hole is likely widened even further. I see drop size varying at least by a factor of 2, which means that one flavor batch might be weak and the other STRONG!!

Of course, if you are familiar with your equipment, you can compensate.

Drop sizes do vary.

But every drop that comes out of my flavorArt Watermelon bottle is the same size. Just like every drop that comes out of my TPA Caramel bottle are the same size. So my recipes are repeatable and taste Exactly the same because the flavoring always comes out of the same bottle. Just like everything else comes out of the same bottles.

If a person wants to measure everything to +/- .1 ml it isn't going to hurt anything. But when your done, you might have a bunch of stuff to wash out and dry.

All I am saying is that there are easier ways to do DIY if you give it some thought.

I'm in the same camp. I rarely mix more than a 6ml bottle of any of my DIY recipes at any given time. I am more apt to mix 6ml's of 3 different mixes, as I really like to switch my flavors up as the day goes on. I have at least a dozen syringes and needles of varying sizes that mostly sit in my DIY flavor vault. I do premix my 50/50 14mg nic base (Most of my mixes take this down to about 12mg) into 2 50ml bottles . That is pretty much the only time I use a syringe.
