My father, mother, and I all vape. We have 4 different commercial mods at all configurations.

*Before I ask my question, here is a little backround to our usage.*

We typically drip with atty's, and drip to top off cartos as well.

We use LR attys at 3.7, and attys and cartos @ 5v, 6v, and 7,4.

501 and 901 are our attys of choice.

We use different juices, from 4-5 vendors. Some are pg, vg or a mix.

Nic levels are at 11-12mg.

We store our juice in a large plastic box away from sunlight and heat.

NOW for my question..

When we all stopped smoking analogs in late December 09, we noticed a alot of changes in our bodies from quitting. My family is in restaurants and we avidly cook. My tase and smell were heightened to a level I forgot I had.

After months of vaping, my whole family has noticed a DROP in taste sensitivity.

We cannot taste our juices as well anymore, honestly most to the point I cannot taste them anymore!

Is this a mental adjustment or is something going on here?

Or can juice sucked in the mouth, or long term e-liquid exposure affect our sense of taste?
When I suck juice in my mouth, I do feel a tingle, which we all do, can this be affecting my taste buds?

I only noticed this affect after I started to drip heavily at 6v, and my family started dripping around the same time as me as well......

Has anyone noticed this before?

Any insight would be appreciated!

Its not vaping or ejuice - when my brother gave up he quit cold turkey and he had this and many other 'symptoms' that vapers complain about. He's never touched a PV or NRT either btw.
He had sores in mouth, loss of smell, loss of taste, tight chest feeling (like shortness of breath but like panic also) and his allergies seemed to get worse.
Its been a few years now since then and all his 'bits' are normal again.

As for your juices - have you experimented and used a completely new juice- it may be habituation on the part of your nose - its smelled those 4-5 smells on a regular basis for a while and has become 'immune' to them. It happens to perfumers; its not supposed to be permanent.

BTW I love the new doctor who, and enjoy torchwood almost as much. The brit's culture must be different, cause eveyone is a ..... on torchwood!

I switch juices daily. I use rath, xhaler high voltage, xhaler lung, altsmoke, mrs t's and v4l juice. I don't use the same juice day after day either. I typically use 3 different flavors a day.

I've always thought cartos produce way more flavor (and TH) then an atty, but I seem to barely taste cartos anymore.

My guess is it's more of a smell issue- taste is based a lot on smell. Smoking tends to fill your nose with foreign particles and chemicals that fill up your nerves' smell receptors. This is why people tend to lose their sense of taste when smoking. I don't have any info on vapor but one can only imagine it's WAY better for the nose since it doesn't linger like smoke.

When I quit it seemed as though everything was more vivid, just like you described. Once you get adjusted to the change, though, you tend to not notice it any more. It's like walking into a house with bread baking- you smell it right away but over time it blends in and your subconscious stops recognizing it as different. Habituation, just like CaptJay says, is the key here. Give it some time, try eating different foods and flavors to check to see if you are SURE your sense of taste is actually diminished, and try to stay away from chemicals and smoke as much as possible. Maybe it wouldn't hurt to do some deep breathing exercises every now and then too.

Ever been to a hog farm?

My uncle raised hogs. I would stay with them for a few weeks at a time during the summer. When first arriving, you could smell the farm a mile down the road.

After you stayed there for a week+ you could not smell them on the farm.

This happens allot. Your nose alerts you to new smells, alerting you to possible danger? After time, your brains just blocks that smell out, as it is no longer a concern.

Possibly the same thing happens with pg/vg ...

Good question and I'll share my experiences.

Even as a regular smoker, I could always, always, always smell the smell on another person who had just smoked.

I think some of this is personal chemistry, where some people retain the "stink" on their body and some don't, but this comment could be seen as silly because I have absolutely nothing to support it but anecdotal stuff. I've had boyfriends who couldn't tell I had just smoked when hugging me, and even commented that I hadn't smoked even though I'd been within minutes of having smoked (I did not want to ask if they could tell after kissing ashtray-mouth, TMI-do-not-want-to-know-territory for me).

About tasting food, I've always been able to taste nuances in food, while smoking, and while vaping, even while vaping very full/rich flavors.

What IS strange for me is that sometimes I can't taste certain vape flavors. I can smell them, but sometimes they taste like AIR.

Not sure how helpful my comments are, but it's certainly an interesting area of discussion.
