Hey vapers,

I'm only 2 weeks in, vaping 12 and 18mg juice (depending on the situation). I want to lower over the course of the next few months (I have a medical condition that is said to be worsened by nicotine usage so ultimately, I need to wean myself off it completely) and was wondering how fast did you guys go ?

I know it's different for every person and I will have to listen to my body, but I'm curious :)

When the first e-juice I bought, 18mg, made me sick, I bought 12mg. When it made me sick, I bought 6mg, and finally I could vape all I wanted and not get sick. When I quit smoking about a month after I started vaping, I had to go back up to 9mg so I wasn't puffing constantly, but I find I'm still doing that to some extent, so I've recently taken it up to 10mg. At that level, i can take a few puffs, then set it down and leave it alone for a while, before I feel like taking some more puffs.

I was smoking between 15 to 20 cigs a day for 21 years. When I started vaping it took me about 4 days total to drop analogs completely. I've been vaping 12mg juice on my Aerotank and Nautilus. I recently picked up a Russian 91%, and on that I have to vape 6mg because the 12 was hitting my throat like a truck. 6 is better. I am thinking once I finish the 12mg juice I have I will switch to 6 on everything. The body knows, and I'm sure I'll be fine with it.

That said, if you have a medical condition that is worsened by nicotine, I would highly suggest dropping quickly. My father was a pack and a half a day smoker until his kidneys went bad. The doctor told him no transplants for smokers, and he quit over night. Dialysis is a horrible thing. I'm not sure if what you have is that extreme, but if the doctor is telling you (in no uncertain terms) to stop.... Stop.

I vaped 24mg for the first week, then went down to 18mg for about 9 months, and slowly transitioned down to 12mg.

I've been at 12 mg for about a year, but am trying to ramp down again to 6mg. It's much easier for me to vape 6mg and be satisfied if I'm using a dripper, but with my standard toppers (Kayfun Lite + and AMP Tanks running 2ohm attys) I till like to use 12mg juice, or I get antsy. I figure it will take me a few months to get down to 6mg full-time...

No it's nowhere near that kind of things. It's a chronic skin condition, not in any way life threatening or disabling. I've smoked for 20 years and got a name on this condition pretty recently, so I figure I can handle a few more months or even a year - especially if it's my ticket out of this damn addiction. I will lower the levels fast enough, but not so fast that I fall back into smoking.

So far, I'm mostly at 12mg. I have a few juices I like that are 18mg but they're not ADVs, mostly after lunch / evening vapes. I also have half a bottle of 24mg. I carry a small tank of it for emergency cravings but these are getting more rare. I've ordered my faves in 6mg so I can let them steep for a few weeks while I finish off the 18's and cruise on the 12's for a while.

Was your dad able to keep off the cigarette ?

I went from 18 mg to zero in about nine months. I stayed at 18 for about two full months. When I got down to zero I vaped that for around six months straight if I remember correctly. I have since gone back to using nic at times when I feel like it. I now find nic not addictive to vape and can use it or leave it as I chose. I was entirely addicted to cigarettes and could not quit smoking until I started vaping.

I was not particularly motivated to quit nicotine. I was very happy to be smoke free after 37 years and in the first few months I chain vaped when I needed to in order to help me reduce cigarette cravings. It took me about 14 months to get the cigarette addiction completely out of my system. I knew I had it licked when I found myself in a car on a six hour long trip with a few smoking friends on-board, told them to go ahead and light up (I could see the nic fits developing in them and knew what they were experiencing ;)) and it didn't make me want to smoke :rickroll:

I'm pretty sure I could have done it a few months faster, but this ended up working well for me.

Like you said mistike, listen to your body and take it easy on yourself. The great thing with vaping is that we can switch nic levels at will. If you find you've gone a bit too far too fast you can always back up a step and regroup :thumb:.

For me the biggest thing to get used to was the reduced throat hit of lower nic juice. The advantage to lower nic juice is that flavor becomes cleaner. Some days I really appreciate one or the other.

Best of luck with it.

6 weeks in. As my vaping became more frequent and technique & equipment got better at creating vapor, my nic strength dropped pretty quick. My daily nic intake is probably at about 125% to 150% of when I smoked. I am at 6mg/ml for dripping and 12 for tanks, though I need to lower the 12 as I got a bit nic sick last night for the 1st time.

Started on 24 for like the first 4 days had to jump straight down to 18 way too harsh, about a month later I went down to 6. Mainly because that's when I gave up on pre-made coils and started building my own, on 18mg it was really harsh since my sweet spot was .5 -.7 ohms I've been at 6mg for well over a year now.
