ok I debated jumping in this thread or not. What follows is probably TMI for some but here goes.

Be careful how fast you drop your nic levels if you are prone to Depression and/or anxiety.

I dropped all they way down to 0nic inside of 4 months of vaping and had no clue about the changes in my behavior until one day I found myself sitting at the computer crying my eyes out and had no idea why. Told the hubby about it and he commented that he had notice my panic attacks were more frequent as well. So off to the Dr I went.

It turns out that many people with depression/anxiety are smokers because they are self medicating with nicotine. His recommendation to me was to use the zero nic most of the time but when I feel the depression/anxiety starting to go up a bit and use some nic.

These days I vape zero nic about 80% of the time and when I need the nic to control the depression/anxiety I will go 1-3 mg depending on the severity for a day or 2.

Was a 6-8 cig a day smoker, lights. I started at 6 and I was able to quit cigs immediately with no craving a little extra vaping couldn't handle. I then realized I like vaping a whole lot, so I cut to 3 nic with no noticable difference. Since my idea was to get off nic, I then went to mixing 0 and 3, again with no problem. I am not strict about it and currently waffle between an occasional straight 3, frequently straight zero and sometimes 0 with a couple drops of three added. My approach at this point is a rather haphazard slide into using no nicotine. I bought a bottle of unflavored 3 to add to my flavored 0s if need be to make life easier by not having to have the same flavors in two stengths. 6 nic is now too strong for me to vape straight. This was pretty much accomplished in 2+ months and without being uncomfortable at any time. Note that I did not start from a very high level of nicotine when I smoked, so YMMV.

I would say that if you want to get off nic quickly you should take it a little slow while testing boundaries to see where you are and not being afraid to back up if need be. It may be quick and somewhat doable in the short run to go from 24 nic to 3 in a month, but if you wind up with a cig in you hand, it's not quick at all.

My father, currectly 81 yrs and a chimney for probably 60 of those years, has this same problem with depression when he tries to quit. I cannot get him to go e-cig. He is negatively affected by smoking and I feel his quality of life would be so much improved of he would ditch the cigs, but at this point it probably ain't going to happen. Thankfully, I have cut nic very low and have not had this problem, although I am on antidepressants.

I went from 24mg down to 6mg in just a couple of weeks. I did it so I could chain Vape. :vapor:

That's sort of the case for me as well.

I originally started at 24mg. After a month of doing it though I found it to high because I chain vaped. I dropped it down to 18mg, and that lasted another month and a half. I am currently down to 12mg.

When I first started though, the vendor advised me to start at 24mg. She was correct, because I really needed that level to kick my Newport habit. However, when she explained to me that I could gradually drop from that level, I remember looking at her perplexed thinking, "why would I ever want to do that?".

I guess I never realized how enjoyable and fulfilling vaping could be.

I started on 18mg, quickly moved down to 12mg which is where I stayed for around 6 months or more. I moved down to 6mg last week when I was in bed with the flu and unable to vape at all. It just seemed like the right time to drop levels. I simply threw about 200ml of 12mg away. I have just under 300ml of 6mg left to vape then I'm going to make that careful step down to 0mg. How I'm going to do it, I'm not sure. I don't want to mix 6mg/0mg to get 3mg, so I'll probably vape 6mg half the day and 0mg the the other half. See how it goes. I already have some 0mg in the cupboard, so I may consider using a little 0mg now actually.

As a side note, I bought some 0mg a long time ago and placed it in the cupboard. I bought it to remind me of my target.

I want to lower over the course of the next few months (I have a medical condition that is said to be worsened by nicotine usage so ultimately, I need to wean myself off it completely) and was wondering how fast did you guys go ?
When I discovered that there might be a connection between my hearing loss and nicotine, I panicked and dropped from 18 to 0 immediately. I remember one time I went into an emotional tailspin. I was driving at the time which wasn't a good situation. However, I was able to make it home, and the mood released.

I soon bought some 12 mg for such situations.

I have gone back up to 2.4 mg. My Dr. and I decided to decrease my antidepressant dosage. The other day, I mixed some 8 mg for emotional crises. It makes me dizzy if I have much-- but when I need it, it doesn't seem to make me dizzy as much as when I don't.

Thanks everybody ! It's fascinating to read all these different experiences and how we all handle the same thing differently.

Nicotine for me is nothing but an addiction. I've never felt the "nicotine rush". All I feel is the craving when I haven't had some for a while. Then if I smoke (or now vape), the craving just goes away. I don't feel anything else (except dizziness if I have too much in one sitting). So I don't see any reason to keep having it once I wean myself off it. I'll give myself a few months and start by finishing off my 18's if I can. If not, I'll just buy some of the same juices in 0 and mix them.

I much prefer my caffeine lol.
