Just writing to thank you for suggesting this - I love it! I had a really difficult time beginning on cotton from cotton balls, so was using silica because it was easier to keep from burning. I liked silica, but it is more difficult to work with. I'm using another piece of thread to pull the wick through the coil instead of a wire, that works best for me so thank you to whomever suggested that too!

after using organic cotton balls for about 8 months, i just tried bamboo today, and i think i like it. The best thing is that the wick size is consistent, which was kind of hit or miss with cotton balls, and when the bamboo gets dry, the throat hit burn isn't as harsh as cotton. I did feel the need to boil it before use however, as i could definitely smell something treated on it. Could be it just picked up molecules from being in the craft store from all the other textiles and yarns near it.... or whatever... they are not sold sealed so, they could absorb anything on their journey to the store. Thanks for this OP...tried to find hemp at two stores, they didn't have any, that's the next to try....

^^ yup - the two reasons I'm loving the bamboo these days: build consistency and dry hit forgiveness.
