I don't think I've ever had to scrap and redo a coil. Sometimes, I'll get an idea of something I want to try, so I'll change out a coil. But otherwise, they stay good for a long time. I have coils in attys that are probably over a year old. But I'll change out my cotton wick often. When I change out the wick, I dry burn the coil, gently. I don't go nuts with dry burning; just enough to turn whatever crud is on the coil to a dry ash. No need to dry burn the coil to orange or yellow hot. Just a dull red is plenty. Then, I use one of those little Dentek brushes, and clean the ash off the coil, inside and out. Rinse it off, rewick, and it's good to go again.

coils can last for months.
Just dry fire them and burn any gunk off during rewicking.
After a month or so of heavy use, the resistance will start to vary as the wire degrades, and then its time for a new one.
That's how I know when it's finally time to change and discard my Protank II and Evod coils.

I cannot believe RDA coils last so long, I also cannot believe I've vaped nothing but tanks for five years. I literally am so excited at my first ever RDA arriving in today's post, I've been doing a lot of temperature control vaping the last six months and while I've never built a coil in my life, I'm looking forward to learning and advancing to the point where I can make my own temperature control deck setups.

You're about to enter a whole new world of flexibility in creating your vape, low cost and sometimes a bit of frustration specially at the beginning. That goes away once you figure things out :)

Coils in RDAs last about as long as coils in RTAs (rebuildable tanks). I dripped for a couple of years until tanks got better and now RTAs are all I use.

Best of luck with it :thumb:

Takes me longer to clean/dry burn a coil than it does to make a new coil, so I don't bother with cleaning them. I uses silica wicks & 30ga. kanthal wire. Probably make a new coil every 2 months or so. Normally it's the silica wick that needs replacing.
Took me some playing around at first to figure out a build that would perform the way I wanted ... and last for a while.

For me, I defiantly found that simpler is better.

I haven't seen a silica wick in years! That's what I used about 5 years ago when I first got into vaping (pretty much all there was at that time). There was no sub-ohm coils or cotton bacon back then.

That brings back memories of getting frustrated building coils with 32g-36g Kanthal, now I use 18g-24g SS, 4mm-6mm ID and building sub-ohm or super sub-ohm coils. It doesn't seem like it's been 5 years ago when building those tiny coils lol.
