asidrave, my advice would be to continue random sampling before serious stocking, some flavors are great occasionally and some all the time, but burnout does happen. Also, Stubby warns that most folks' tastes in snus usually changes after some time. I agree. Those that started as my favorites still are, but I don't think I'd enjoy 'em as much now if I hadn't expanded my variety. When you feel confident, stock. When my Northerner order shows up I'll have 127 cans in my hoard, not including my current rotation of the 3 I have open now. That's a years worth of government rape I won't have to endure. .....And everyday Osama hasn't signed the Act I take as a bonus. Looking for it anytime now :mad:.

Away..
dave,
TV gives sound advice here. Tastes can drift and sampling can find new favorites.
I dont want to count what I have! lol

I'm still getting samples of snus, snuffs and will add a large economy tin(snuff) or multiple tins(snus) of one I have really liked to each order.

Another thing I've found is if you like a given brand, most likely you will like most of there other offerings that the flavor description indicates. There will be exceptions though.

The NJ taxes on snuff is $0.75 oz. That's a lot better then OTD at $1.78 oz (with min. tax) Not quite sure what min.tax is but I fear it means that you pay at least $1.78 no matter what the weight, and more if its over an oz. SnusX bucket would make sense for OTD. Where I am in WI it's 100% of mfr. NJ taxes are not to bad. TV has it easy at 24% of mfr. price.

One oz. equals just over 28 grams so $0.65 or $0.70 for a can of 24 grams in NJ. Add to that less then a dime in Fed tax.

thanks for the info stubby

i have yet to find any tobacco shops local to me that carry snus. camel snus doesnt count :)

that means i would rely on ordering online for my snus...with UPS supposidly handling the shipping of the snus..that would add up quite a bit to the total cost.

I already get most of my getsnus orders from UPS since I normally order larger amounts. It's not that expensive. Northerner charges a hugh amount for international UPS shipping but have been stocking up there US warehouse big time in the last few months so I expect there UPS shipping to dramatically come down. The problem is getting into panic buying and ending up with a lot of snus you don't really care for. That would be a lot more expensive in the long run than paying the taxes.

Not saying you shouldn't stock up, just use a bit of caution.

im hoping within the 20 cans...i will find a few long term keepers that i can safely stock up on.

i do believe that mint flavors will be my staple. i used to smoke menthols, vape mint since i started vaping and im really liking general mint and wintergreen. im hoping the trend stays.

How close are you to Bethlehem, Pa? From what I've read, Cigars International on Nazareth Pike carries snus (heard Getsnus owns) but I'm waiting on some nice weather to two wheel up there.

In the meantime, I'm up to about thirty five cans sharing time with my frozen foods but looking for ideas to add to the stash. With the money I've saved the last eight months by not buying cigarettes, i can afford to fill the freezer. :p :p

I've got a General Dry Mini Mint under my lip right now. Flavor seems to last. It came as a sample from Northern and I'm thinking a larger portion might be perfect.

@TV

That is my biggest worry TV since im a snus beginner. i really wouldnt know what flavors to stock up now, and then what if i like los?

@whimzikool

i hope its true about the 90 days till it goes into effect. i will give me time to adjust to flavors and try a can of los to see if i like

I feel your panic too, asidrave. Over the last few weeks I've got a much wider variety of things to try, and finding I like most. And the majority I probably wouldn't have liked at the start. But, like any investment I wanna make sure I'm happy with where I put my moola. As to the los, that's the best bang for the buck (almost twice as much for the same price/can right now). And I can also say that los is a much finer flavor than the portions, or I should specify, "wet" portions. The ol' saying about not going back to portions once you've tried los is understandable. It's a different dimension. Biggest problem I have with los is I like to give my snus a total workout. Don't want it just laying there gettin' lazy. With los, trying to move a prilla around is asking for trouble. That's all that's kept me from being a full-time member of the los club. Stubby has a good system going with RYO and I may eventually move to that.
And whenever PactAct is signed into law, that's the "GO" button. The race will last for 90 days, then the rape and pillage on smokeless users begins :-x.

TV...you and me think alike brother. the portion/value ratio and somewhat finer/purer/better flavor vs portion is what is attracting me to it.

i sort of dont like the idea of not being able to move around a pris because of possible breakage of the pris. the idea if getting my hands messy is something i know i have to get used to if i handbake.

once i get a feel of what flavors i like...i will buy one or 2 different los with a prismaster on my next order.

is the Stubby RYO system involving teabags? i will have to look into it
