I don't know how old my oldest mods are because I bought them used.
My oldest mod still working is an IPV-5. Built like a tank but chews through battery wraps. Close second tesla steampunk nano 120. I need to buy another my husband stole my backup.

I don't think smok and I would get along I am hard on mods. Very hard.

I get LiPo's so they are all under $50. Only lost three to auto-firing, one to faulty buttons. Happy to get 1/2yr out of them really. Only went thru 7 mods and a handfull of eGo's so far.

Really no quality under high end so I don't pay more than I have to. I'd be angry if I paid 80-100 for a mod that went bad.

Well right now I'm using a sigelei sobra.
Let's see how long this one lasts bought it this morning when the smoke shop opened. I use my mods everyday all day long. Could be the reason for the failures
    Common causes of mod failure:
    1: Dropping it.
Breaks solder joints and support structures. Dropping anything at all with enough force/height will break it. Devices with rubber armor and milspec ratings resist this but even they are not immune. SMOK mods are known for unprotected and bad solder joints as well as low quality hinging and bad paint over cheap materials, and are especially susceptible to this one. So much so they can break quite quickly without even being dropped.

    2: Getting it wet.
Get electronics wet and bad things happen. Some mods are resistant to moisture. Many aren’t.

    3: Running beyond capacity:
If you run a device beyond its electrical capacity parts can heat up and cause problems. Melted plastics, burnt insulation, etc..
This is another one where SMOK falls down hard. SMOK mods may be specced to a wattage level, but not infrequently manufacturing doesn’t measure up to design.

The answer: buy a ruggedized device if you tend to break them. And stop buying SMOK.

For sure I bought my last smok! They're not breaking from dropping them because I don't drop them. I'm just going to stay away from that brand. Time will tell

I have a box full of mods from Provari, Eleaf, Smok, HCigar, and Jac Vapour among others. I can't remember having one fail, but I vape around 10W MTL. Eleaf has been a reliable small, low cost mod for me. Currently, I'm vaping an Eleaf iStick Pico S at 10 watts. It's s 21700 battery mod and I get vape time in the 24 to 30 hours + range on the 21700. I change a battery once in a day and a half vaping about 10ml juice a day at 10W. All I ever wanted was a vape stream that resembled a cigarette smoke plume.

For out of the house vaping I tend to grab a smaller iStick 30W or Hcigar 75W for pocket carry.

Is vaping a constant 40 Watts out of a 200w device considered hard work?
    For the device?

I don't know, like if you constantly filter 200 watts worth of battery power of dual/triple battery mods down to 40, what happens to the filter? Also I see you had 3 smok mods... I don't wanna be like a broken record, but it is known that smok products don't last very long.

Part of your issue is the brands you've chosen. Three of them were SMOK. SMOK has a notorious reputation for using cheap parts, having poor quality control, and an absence of customer service or support. "We make cheap. You buy cheap. It break? You buy another."

There are a select number of manufacturers who have a much better reputation. Provape (Provari) was one of the best, but they went out of business.

Jac Vapour (series b DNA75W) and Geekvape (the entire Aegis line of mods) are two brands that I highly recommend.

Above are my three main setups.

Jac Vapor series b DNA75W, Geekvape Aegis Solo, and the Geekvape Aegis Mini

The two aegis look similar, are they the same size, weight? I like small single 18650's, and they look smaller then the jac which I have....

The Aegis Solo is a bit taller to accomodate an 18650 than the Mini, and a tiny bit heavier in weight, but you wouldn't know it unless holding one in each hand.

The Mini is shorter than the Jac. The Solo is the same height as the Jac, but bulkier in circumference. The weight difference is insignificant if any.

I've been vaping a ProVari P3 every day for the last 4 years. I vape at around 15-16 watts on a 20 watt device. Someone mentioned earlier about using extremes (200 watts on a 200 watt device or 40 watts on a 250 watt device etc) and there may be some mileage in that. Maybe the electronicals can't cope with extremes  and have an ideal power setting of, say 50-75% of the maximum wattage available..
Or maybe Chinese built devices are just too cheap because that's what the customer wants.
Or maybe there's no R&D on most devices because of the turnaround on products.
Or maybe quality control is considered to be an optional extra.

Most cheap electronic gear fails, not just vaping gear.

In 6 years and owning 5 mods, only one has "died" on me. Innokin MVP2.. but due to user error by overtightening tank on 510 connection. I'm pretty rough on my workhorse, I've dropped it many times, dropped in puddles, still continues to work like day 1.

Is there any place to buy an Aegis Solo, but without the tank? Or are these just sold as kits?

5 years and the only thing that totally messed up on me was my SX Mini Q which really annoyed me considering the price. Other mods just develop faults like one of my Therion's is iffy and tends to switch itself out of standby mode and then drain the battery, don't use that one anymore. Threw my Asmodus Minikin V2 out due to weird battery draining behaviour, felt very dodgy to me.

I used to use Sigelei a lot back in the days when they were super tough devices. Only threw my 100W out the other day because the fire button now constantly sticks. Plus I have quite a few mechs so if a mod does go screwy I have a backup device. Majority of the time I buy very durable mods because I can get clumsy sometimes. Reason I have two Aegis Legend now and the SX Mini ML Class is insanely robust considering how long I've had it.

the most galling failures I have are of my beloved Dani extreme v2 first time it just stopped working so sent it back to Germany got it fixed then this year it failed again.
I only vape around 8.5 watts and it lives in a bag the a KFL on top of it.
not even got around to contacting them yet Just a pain I really don't expect a £200 mod to fail especially twice. it died in Jan my be past its warranty now too can see me wanting to pay much in the way of repair bills may end up as a paper weight :(:nah:
Using my Dani box now , fingers crossed..
