Is vaping a constant 40 Watts out of a 200w device considered hard work?
For the device?

It's actually less strain on a high wattage device to reduce the wattage that the circuitry produces. Lower watts means lower amperage from the device and that translates to less power from the battery. That said, the more complex the circuitry the more current it draws compared to something like an iStick. Think of it as driving a 400 HP car at 35mph all the time. You are still working with a large engine that eats more gas than a smaller engine at the same speed.

In 6 years and owning 5 mods, only one has "died" on me. Innokin MVP2.. but due to user error by overtightening tank on 510 connection. I'm pretty rough on my workhorse, I've dropped it many times, dropped in puddles, still continues to work like day 1.

Is there any place to buy an Aegis Solo, but without the tank? Or are these just sold as kits?

As far as I know the only places that sell them without a tank right now are pre-order. I've had one on pre-order for a while. I got mine from Cvapor. It shows as $44 but goes down to $32 including shipping when you sign in. Good deal if you're not in a hurry.

the most galling failures I have are of my beloved Dani extreme v2 first time it just stopped working so sent it back to Germany got it fixed then this year it failed again.
I only vape around 8.5 watts and it lives in a bag the a KFL on top of it.
not even got around to contacting them yet Just a pain I really don't expect a £200 mod to fail especially twice. it died in Jan my be past its warranty now too can see me wanting to pay much in the way of repair bills may end up as a paper weight :(:nah:
Using my Dani box now , fingers crossed..

Wow first time I read about failures in Dani mods. And twice???

I'm really sorry to read that. A so pricey mod couldn't failure twice, in my opinion...

In 6 or 7 years of part time and sporadic vaping plus an additional 2 years of full time vaping I've only had 5 devices poop the bed.
A Joyetech eGo AIO (had 4 and the other 3 worked forever until gifted).

Went through 2 Cool Fire 4 mods they both stopped working after a month.

A Breeze 2. Still works but the clips broke. If I hold the pod down by hand it works so it's strictly an occasional unit at home.

Smoking Nord. The only Smok I've ever owned and it died after a month.

Items that have stood the test of time for me:
Original eGo batteries
Aegis Legend
Reuleaux Gen 3
Cuboid 200w
Crown 3 tanks
Original Nautilus tanks (full size and mini)

Now I've downsized to pods and I'm loving the Caliburn.

Did it last you longer than a carton of ciggies used to last you? Remember how much those cost? How much did your smok mod cost? Justified?

e-cigarettes should not just be compared to smoking (which is an extremely bad comparator)
If nicotine gum is comparable to regular gum, nicotine patches are comparable to temporary tattoos, then e cigs are comparable to cigarettes. As a gum chewer, I am not aware of all the products in said gum. And yet, I chew. I planted a temporary tattoo on my daughter at the young age of 5. Whats in those?
All I was saying to the OP, coming from the perspective of an ex smoker, I have saved a ton of money not smoking, even when the cost of many (many) mods are factored in. Buying a new mod 2x a year is still much cheaper than continuing with combustible cigs.

I expect a year or less from built in battery devices, in regular use. Removable battery devices are what I carry all day and typically the same one every day. On those I expect two or more years from a ProVari 2.5 and hope for one to two years from average devices. I'm pretty hard on them with a number of drops. Some develop button problems as they wear out, even though the electronics are fine. My last mod that actually died fell out of my pocket into a fire, after about a year of use and over 100,000 puffs. I got a few more of those!

I have an iStick 40, that my grandson gave me. He used it for 2 years, it was his only mod. Rode a bicycle a lot and it fell out of his pocket and hit the road twice. I've had it for 3 years now. I have a bunch of other mods but the iStick is the one I grab for shopping trips and gardening and so forth. It works like new. Still runs longer than the Aegis Mini I just got.

It seems to be hit and miss how long mods last.

Over the long term, excluding DOAs, I had four eminent failures, all four caused from tank dumps into the micro-USB port of Yihi mods.
The USB port on the Yihi devices is permanently powered - as long as the battery is inside the mod. So, any liquid left inside it keeps corroding the contacts and the circuit tracks.

Sad thing, the mods still work, just their port is not functional, both for charging and for loading profiles.

The clue is in the Yihi warranty, one year for the device, and three months on the USB port. Instead of being cheeky, shouldn't they fix their design?

I Checked the internals (ML class and Q mini), and a couple of tiny copper tracks below the USB connector have been 'erased' - so to speak.
I ended up in... no longer buying Yihi.

Pods... A Smok Fit, an Aspire Breeze 2, and Aspire Nautilus AIO died in the last three months.

The Smok Fit had a failed circuit, which stopped working at once, without an apparent cause for the failure.

The Breeze 2 had the pod retainer clips broken; which seems to be a manufacture error, it seems they used the wrong type of plastic for the job.

The AIO failed after the full pod e-liquid content was dumped into the inner circuit - following two short, back-to-back airplane travels.

Vape on,

Vape on,

I have a ton of yihi mods and had them for many years and not had any of those issues. You said if any juice is left inside, it corrodes, but why is juice inside in the first place? Maybe its because I use rtas? But I cant see why any juice would be inside the mod or in the USB port. Perhaps from time to time I get a bit of moisture in the 510 , but every rewick I take a q tip, so nothing can actually get inside. Is it a dripping thing?

Four reasons the mod get flooded with juice.

I use too little cotton in tanks like Serpent mini, the Govad. Overnight the full content of the tank gets on the mod and the table.

In tanks with dropin coils, it happen that the top swings open in the pocket, and when I place the setup on the table, the full load gets tru the air slots.

Of late, it happened that the mesh coils for the Prince Baby, do leak because they are defective.

I also traveled by air and forgot to empty the tank, so when I arrived the e-liquid was all spread on the mod and in the bag.

I had many e-liquid dumps, now I changed how I manage the all storage and use, but I had these four expensive mods damaged. Of acquaintances who vape, they all experienced a tank dump at a given moment.

I never liked top airflow tanks, and even less the use of squonkers, but I can see why many vapers do use them.

My Istick 40w fell out my pocket at 30mph and was fine afterwards. I used it every day for two years and the battery was still great. Great device.

Edit I was riding a motorsickle not a bisickle.

I think I shall chose not to comment here.

I just broke my first Siren v2. Not the glass (well, it did break but that has happened plenty) but I dropped it hard enough that the chimney came out of the top cap. I am hoping my husband can judiciously hammer it back in.... we shall see. I sure can't do it.

Yeah, I have broken my fair share of things, that is for darn sure. I'm so glad I have many provaris they seem to hold up well.

I hate carpet/I hate tile.

Linoleum's awesome. My new house is once again going to have linoleum even if it is "high end." LOL.

I mean, I killed a few mods before, but it's nothing like now.

And curses to you once again, Joytech! That really brought my average number FAR above where it needed to be.... Oh well, at least the ego one and tron tanks were CHEAP. Not collectively mind you, but in a single purchase fashion.

The coils lasted me longer than the TANKS. LOL.
