$49.95 blu starter kit
$33.30 random juice odds and ends
$49.16 New 808 starter kit (blu went to a friend)
$14.19 new blank cartos
$40.05 more batts and cartos
$22.37 more juice
$17.80 more juice
$17.00 more juice

Grand Total $243.82 since Dec 18 2010 or $4.06 a day.

I have finally found the perfect battery carto and juice combo for me!!!!!!!!!!
Not bad my smoking habit cost me $7.00 a day.
I suspect that the cost will decrease now for me I am pretty .... so when I find something I like I stick with it.

Just thought someone might want to know my startup cost in case price is a lingering issue with you giving ecigs a wholehearted attempt, mistakes and all. Good luck:vapor:

I remember when I started wondering what everyone was spending aside from the original start up kit. I think that its helpful to be informed for the 1st timers about this issues, so they don't have such lofty ambitions for the first kit. Its a shame so many people quit trying because the first setup they have didn't work for them. Just keep swimming, just keep swimming.

This is true and if they find ECF they will be much better informed consumers. In no way should someone read my above post and think that you MUST spend what I did to have a satisfying vape. I just look at it as a hobby and have collected some really nice MOD's. You certainly do not need them to quit smoking and something like a $35 Riva kit will perform nicely too. I spent about $2000 my first 11 months, including starter stuff, 3 mods, 2 Sticks, and enough E-Liquid and Unflavored plus flavorings to DIY to last about 2 years, also a good stock of atomizers. After a family disaster when hubby was on disability for 4 months and on part time for 3 months after that I have only bout 6 atomizers and some menthol crystals in the past 10 months. Less than $60 for 10 months of vaping isn't bad at all since smoking would have cost about $2700 in that time. Now I'm investing in a bottom feeder and spending a large chunk again, but I know that over the next few months all I will have to buy is atomizers again. It still works out to about 8 times less than smoking for the year for me. My Sis in Law has spent even less. Even if it cost the same or more than smoking, it would save money in the long run. Treatment for all of the things that smoking causes is way expensive.

That's one of the many many great benefits to vaping IMO; you can spend as much or as little as you like. If you get a $30 Riva (or make a $10 box mod) and DIY your own juice it can cost as little as $20 a month (sometimes less) or you can buy expensive MODs and fancy handmade e-liquids and spend more.

Either way, you'd have to be trying pretty hard to spend more than you used to spend on cigs (assuming you smoked about average; a pack or pack'n'a'half per day).

I've spent around $175 in the past week. But honestly, if I wanted to, I could make all of the sample bottles I bought last me a month. I've also since then purchased an extra battery, 3 extra atomizers, a neat carrying case, 2 drip tips, and some cartridges...buuuut I'm thinkin of purchasing a $30 box mod off of one of the users here soon :) I'm so bad....

My one blog is my running tab some 300.ooo I think now but all said except for a box or 2 more cartos I'm set for the year. And at the rate these carto are going (2 week +) I may have enough of them to last the year. Of course I'll probably buy more juice just to try out flavors and more vendors. I'm eying a ProVari too But hell I'm way below my yearly cost in cigs and way heather too.

I kinda hate to guess how much I have spent. I have been buying for two people, (wife) but I am guessing around $500 in the first month. Which includes two ego-t kits with 1000mah batteries at $100 a piece. I figure about $50 a month from now on, for 2 new atomizers a month and enough juice. So that is about 1/4 the price I would pay for real cigs, not including what the wife would pay for analogs too.

I have thrown down a lot of money over the last couple years. A lot of that has been wasted money on bad overpriced equipment. Don't even want to know how much. But once you find what you like the costs go way down. I think a lot of people spend a lot starting out because it usually takes a few devices to get the one you like. Also I bought tons of juice trying to find the right one.

In the end, it's well worth it. I don't know if I've really spent less than I would smoking overall but I am definitely spending way less now. Find the juice you like and the ecig you like and your costs will become minimal compared to smoking. I've just done a lot of trial and error and I'm a sucker for buying new things.

The main thing is the cost on my health. Even if it was more expensive to vape it would be worth it to me. Anything to keep me off the analogs is worth it in my book!

I'm above $500 at beginning of my 2nd month. I took to vaping pretty quick and am all-in at this point. My expenses were start-up kits, DIY supplies, and now MOD parts for better stuff than the starter kits. I'm a fast learner, tinkerer, mixologist and all around hard-head. Legislature's not going to stop me from being healthier and saving money.

Remember that weird relative that spent all their time and money on QVC in the nineties?

Thats us.

Oh my gawd...it IS!!!

Seriously, I don't think I've spent too much. I got my KR8 starter kit for about $60.00 (a little steep), an extra box of prefilled carts at $17.50.

Since carts are hard to get out here and I'm impatient when it comes to waiting, I decided to do my own refilling. And since I'm a firm believer in doing things myself, I decided to make my own juice too. So add on about $60.00 for unflavored 100 mg/mL nicotine and PG solution, VG, flavorings, bottles, and syringes for measuring. I'm making my own 12-mg/mL solution, so at that concentration the 100 mg nicotine is going to last me a looong time; it should be enough for almost 20 30-mL bottles. That's a LOT of vaping.

The flavors I've done so far and really like are basic tobacco, amaretto, and absinthe.

This thread inspired me to make a spreadsheet of all my costs from my first month of vaping.

All in all spent $105 on the starter kit, some juice, and parts etc. A little bit more than my $85 spent on analogs a month, but I should break even soon, if I can resist buying too much more juice and that ego I want to try.

However I believe this spreadsheet will now keep my on track and not allow for too much insane overspending that I feel is kind of prominent in the vaping community

One vaper had a great idea:

Have your bank set up an automatic transfer to a savings account. Every month they transfer the $85 you would have spent on cigs and that's your e-cig money for the following month.

I could not agree with you more. I spent over a $1,500 my first 2 months. But now I spend a lot less than analogs. I have a gallon each of PG and VG. Tons of bottles, beakers, syringes, chargers, batteries, 100 atomizers, 60 cartos, 1 omega, 1 provarie and more. Over 100 flavors and 250 ml of 100mg nic. Plus I found my own recipes that work. In the long run I will save thousands of dollars. My wife and I were spending $160 per week on analogs. I smoked 2 cartons of Marlboro 100's ($49 ea) and she smoked 1 carton of Capri ($60 ea) per week!

We would have spent $1,280 on analogs for that 2 month period. Heavy smokers we were. Now we smoke zero analogs.

The house no longer smells like an ashtray and we think our dog and cat are happier. For some reason I even drink substantially less.
