I have seen several posts about how much nicotine the body is getting with an e-cig vs analog.
Some make it seem like we are getting less and others have me worried I am on the verge of nicotine OD.

Someone help...

I smoked approx 30 light analogs a day and now vape approx 3ml of 24mg juice a day.
I feel the same, no cravings or feeling sick.

What is the approx mg of nicotine I was getting compared to what I am getting vaping?

Ty!

I have no idea, but your body will tell you if you are getting more or less than you are used to. Some people mention maybe 10%-30% of the nicotine is absorbed, but we really don't know. There was a study done not too long ago. Experienced vapers were allowed to bring in their own PV's and use a range of nic levels. Blood work was done, and it showed that they were getting blood nicotine levels about the same as smokers. For me, if I am craving cigarettes, I increase my nic. If I am getting dizzy and getting a headache, it's time to put the PV down. If I am consistently getting dizzy and getting headaches, it's time to cut my nic level.

The average person absorbs 0.8-2 mg of nic from a cigarette, based on how they smoke and what they smoke. Lights would be at the lower end, and RYO would be at the high end. Based on polls on this site, which of course aren't scientific, the average vaper uses 3ml per day. I personally use 3-5 ml per day of 24-36mg liquid. I was a 2-3 PAD smoker of full-flavor and RYO. It doesn't necessarily work out that way, though. There are people who smoked just as much as me who use much lower nic, and people who smoked a lot less than me who use more. You'll know if you're getting too much. I have the same symptoms from overdoing vaping as I would get when chain smoking cigarettes.

How do you know when you have too much nicotine? I used to be a 1PAD a person. I used 18mg and 12mg nicotine juice and the hit was too strong for me. Im currently using only 6mg and do not feel the need to smoke an analog. During my smoking days, if i smoke to many analogs, i would get sick and even choke on the inhale. Have not had of those happened to me since i started vaping. So am i in the correct nicotine level?

If you are not craving cigarettes, then you are right where you need to be. I'm sure people have different reactions to excess nicotine. I personally just have the ones I mentioned in my first post in the thread - dizziness and a headache. When I was a smoker, I would have a tupperware container of RYO cigarettes right next to the computer. If I spent a few hours on the computer in the evening, I always had a cigarette lit and would end up with a headache. The same thing will happen to me with my PV. No different or worse. Some people will keep a lower nic liquid around for their chain vaping triggers to avoid that.

No one has killed themselves from OD'ing on nicotine while vaping :vapor: Trust me, you will know if you have too much.

I took a COT test. They're cheap but don't tell you exactly how much is in your system, only that enough is in your system to register as a nicotine user. Don't remember where I got them but here's a similiar link:

Nicotine Urine Test Kit

BTW, I vape 2-3 ml a day of 16mg and I did test postive for nic.

As I understand it and someone can correct me if I am wrong but everybody tests positive for nicotine though, its in the body naturally and is found in many food aurbergines tomatos and potatos are just some that nicotine is found in.

The nic listed for a cig is nominal nic absorbed, while that for eliquid is starting content in the liquid.

Best I can tell we are absorbing order of magnitude 1/5 -1/6the nic in eliquid, pretty limited data (look fur an Etter letter from nov 2011).

There is definite variability, due to experience and vaping gear.

3 ml of 24 mg = 72 mg, so absorbing likely around 12 -14 mg of it.

The nic content of cigs varies, but if your lights were say 0.7 mg/cig, that would be about 21 mg for 30. That would be for smoking the whole cig, stub then out early and the number is lower.

I hope this helps, it's a common topic :) End of the day, if you are feeling okay you are vaping the right amount for you.

The math is pretty easy. 1 light smoke is about .8mg nic absorbed, 30 of em = 24mg. Using average nic absorbtion via eliquid 30%, you are going through 72mg x .3 (or 30%) = 21.6mg absorbed. This is using average absorption rates but in your case works out about right.
