It's pretty hard to over power the nicotine "flavor", need strong flavorings to do that. People who use low nicotine seem to be able to get MORE taste. People who use higher end vapers seem to be able to pull more flavor as well. There are very little in way of standards for ecigs devices, length of heating, temperature, etc. so it can be hit and miss getting flavorings right for any on specific vaping device. It's trial and error sometimes/mostly, until you hit one that seems to work well for you.
Regaining sense of taste after quitting smoking, has some variability for different people. In general, it may take up to 3 months to get maximum recovery of taste buds, to the point where you are able to discern minute/small taste variances. That's the same for smell as well ... as is the case for most other things. HOWEVER, most people notice significant changes in as little as 24 hrs, primarily do to higher oxygen availability and of course some of the tobacco "artifacts" being cleaned up. Note: most sensations, taste, smell, etc. also have an effect on dopamine levels, which registers pleasure as well. When you are using nicotine, your dopamine system is comprised so the full effect of smell, taste, etc. will still not be there ... but still a hell-a-lot better. Nicotine use causes constriction of blood vessels as well which will slow down recovery somewhat, but it will still recover, just a little slower at first.
The biggest day to day effect of smoking, is lower oxygen levels. This returns to normal within 8 hours and definitely fully returned within 24 hours. That change alone will improve smell, taste significantly. Turns out oxygen is a good thing
