I respect the people who DIY, but it is just not for me. I will happily pay for someone to do it for me. They have to make money, too, so I don't worry about it too much. Compared to the price of cigarettes, it's alot cheaper either way.

I was paying close to $20/day for smokes. A 30ml bottle of juice that lasts me almost a week....almost doesn't matter what I pay, I come out ahead.

And then there are taxes! :)

I am kinda wondering if any of you own a small business who are complaining of the markup?

Here's the thing to consider. Even if the vg, pg, flavoring, and nicotine only sum to, let's say, 50 cents per 30ml to make, are you considering the following that many juice vendors ALSO have as a cost?

* the plastic or glass bottles
* labeling
* sealing materials
* packaging materials
* website and hosting costs
* business licences
* paypal or credit card fees
* mixing supplies
* advertising costs
* margin for error for tossed product, unhappy customers, postal mistakes, etc.
* facility costs (if they don't mix in their home)
* business supplies (printer, ink, post office box, etc)

You see, I tend to cut the vendors a little slack when it comes to what they charge because I don't have an entire room, garage, or storage in my home devoted to mixing. I also don't have to spend the time mixing. I also don't have to spend no telling how many hours a week doing the customer service end of the business like answering phone calls or emails.

Look, I'm not saying that I would buy a juice from a vendor charging $20+shipping for a 30ml juice. Nope, I'd be prone to buying from someone like ecblends who tend to have low prices, coupons, and a reliable, good product.
I do think, though, that vendors are in business to make money and I am perfectly fine knowing they are making a couple of bucks off of each bottle sold. :)

On top of both of these, remember that small businesses are responsible for any losses that come from stolen cards and lost orders, which can add up to a lot of money fast. Credit card fraud can be incredibly hard to detect, and any security that your preferred vendor uses to protect themselves and their customers from credit fraud costs money too!
Any vendor who starts off as a small business gets a lot of kudos from me, and I am very happy to support and give them my patronage.

If what you say about the super high risk of credit card fraud were true then why do we see only a markup of around 50-150% on Chinese gear versus literally a four digit percentage markup on juice? Is credit card fraud really uniquely high but only in the juice, but not hardware, trade? I would sorta doubt that. Look, everyone's got their own limits of what they're willing to pay. To each his or her own.

The best deals I've found were on Dekang juices from USA vendors. Madvapes sells 80pg/20vg Dekang in 50ml sealed bottles for $10.99. Hoosier gets a couple bucks more for 100%pg Dekang. I keep several 50ml bottles of Tobacco, RY4, and Flur-cured around and add a drop of Lorran's flavoring to make Key Lime w/ a little Cotton Candy for sweetness. I'm partial to the Vanilla Butter Nut, also. I have Lorran's Apple, Caramel, and English Toffee as well as a few others. They all work great with the Dekang tobacco bases, which are cheap and fairly free of strong flavorings. I like the 80pg/20vg mixes best. The 100%pg Dekang mixes seem to have a little too much throat hit and irritation for my taste.

Once you discover the amounts necessary to satisfy your taste, it's easy to mix. I generally mix mine in a Vision Vivi Nova mini tank atomizer and get good consistent results. Just add the flavor to your half full tank and then top it off and rotate to mix. Try to insert it 90 degrees away from the wicking for a more consistent mix. I use a 1ml syringe and find that just enough to show a little above the needle is enough to flavor a 2ml Vivi tank. It's quick and easy. When I find something I like from my rough attempts, I mix in quantity using more accurate methods.

Diy isn't to me work, I treat this like a hobby.

That's what it boils down to to me. Do I want another hobby or not. I have a $25/month juice habit. The cost of materials could be free, and I'm still depating whether I want to take a stab at DIY just for the fun of it or not. If I don't want another hobby, the financial asspect in and of itself isn't enough motivator for me. YMMV

Like I said earlier, I think the relevant question from the OP is whether pricier juice is worth the extra price over cheap juice. I haven't decided yet personally. Haven't tried enough pricey stuff yet. But whatever my response to that turns out to be, YMMV. There's no correct answer.

Nic wont become impossible to get.I just spoke to a Chinese vendor who assures me FDA regulations wont stop them from shipping 100mg nic. The FDA as powerful as it is cant check every package coming in to the country.

People will have to break larger orders up into smaller ones to increase the chance of getting through and minimize the loss but its been done before.

I would greatly prefer U.S made nicotine but if thats the only option I think I wont be alone.

Straight up answer to the OP: I'm willing to pay up to $.50/ml. My reasons for getting into DIY aren't because I feel "ripped off" by my vendors, it's because of the possible government bs upcoming in the U.S. Like many others here, I don't really feel I have time for another hobby; but I'll take it up as such if that's what's needed to keep vaping at a price I can readily afford.

Currently, buyng juice from a couple of different vendors, and comparing the price of what I actually vape per week with what I actually smoked per week: vaping cost about 1/4 what my cigarettes did. ymmv.

Fiz

p.s. It just occurs to me: vaping is at least 1000 times better for my health than smoking and it costs one quarter as much. Now, what's not to love about that! Yay for us!

The most I pay without a bit of discomfort is .50/ml. And I am only comfortable paying that if there is a bit of intellectual property involved. That is, a complex recipie like Boba's or Legend. I really hate paying that same amount when the only real "intellectual property" is to add 10% of a pre bottled flavor or 15%. Unfortunately, most vendors seems to charge the same for a complex recipie as a simple.

I think with today's prices (general economy for most things), I'd go as high as a dollar per ml. That assumes taxation of some sort and (better) regulated product / more consistent / pre steeped. I somewhat base this on idea that people (includes me) would pay up to $1 for a single smoke, though that of course is under vastly different circumstances.

I don't see things getting to the point I mentioned above, but just trying to to address the OP in as honest way as I can.

I also notice lot of people that are getting in to DIY because they feel they're getting ripped off.

I notice that some of the "big name" juice vendors are not answering emails for up to 1-1/2 weeks, and also not making much effort to address customer's complaints.

seems like some of them have gotten too big for their britches.....and seem to forget that they are making $ because of this forum and the people here----their customers, ahem! I could hardly believe some of the stories I hear, and these are from members that I know and trust. Some people will not speak out because some of these popular vendors have a huge following and some members are afraid they will be flamed.

As for $17 for 30ml.....people pay $1 and up per ml........even "used" juice in the classies.........hahhahahahahhaha! My ribs are hurting from laughing.

IMO flame on. This place isn't just to blow sunshine up everyone's ..... We should be just as proactive about calling out bad vendor behavior as long as it's not resolved through normal channels and truthful. I've tried way too many bad juice vendors because they were the flavor of the month on here.

I dont see the mark up as unreasonable.
Off course vendor needs to make profit. But what is a reasonable profit when one vendor makes and sells ejuice for$10 and another vendor does the same for $20 and both have same overheads. I also wish people would stop comparing the cost of e-cigs to tobacco. That only works when one gets of smokes and most, including me were happy to pay even more just to get of the smokes. But after a while one should realize that the two are incomparable since vaping is not smoking. It's closer to eating. Kind of low fat diet that makes vapor :)
