I've read various threads about the horror stories of people being pulled over, so this past week when a police officer came in to the equipment company where I work, I took the opportunity to ask him a couple questions.
I explained that I'd quit smoking 6 months ago and had started vaping electronic cigs and I was a little concerned if I was carrying anything that might get me in trouble or otherwise detained if pulled over in my car, and would he mind to have a look at what I had.
(he was about 4 steps from my desk)

(Full disclosure, he was a police officer from E. St. Louis, which is about 20 miles or so, from where I work, so no small town, or BFE.)
He was VERY, very professional and nice about the whole thing. I showed him my Mini provari with the Kanger Pro Tank, my JC Vea, and my small unmarked bottles of e-liq juice....seriously, 1/2 second, he waves his hand, and said, "you're good", turned and started to walk away.

So I pressed him about the unmarked liquid, telling him I'd read that people have even been made to pour it out.
To which he was very stern, and advised me of my rights. He said that if they don't tell you as they approach you, you are to ask them why you've been pulled over, because they must have probable cause in the first place, and then he basically said that if anyone gives me the slightest grief about the unmarked liquid to ask them to do a field test with the kit they are all REQUIRED to carry, and that if they don't have one, tell them to have another officer to bring them one. (...my response to that was.............)

I also asked if I should carry any printed info regarding my devices or juice, he said "no", but I could if I wanted to, it may speed up the process.

So I felt a whole lot better about it, but I will however generally vape the JC Vea while driving, most of which is rural (BFE) anyway.......:p

I don't se why some people have to disparage all LEO because of the actions of a few. This is simply not fair or accurate.
Just on ECF there are a few A**'s , and that does not mean all vapors are. There are bad doctors, not all doctors are bad, there are bad teachers, but not all are bad etc, etc, etc.
This is just irrational.

Oh I agree. I just happen to know that here in this small backwoods town two things are true. 1. It takes about 10 years for anything to really be KNOWN here and 2. Some of the local guys tend to jump first and MAYBE listen later. Most of the cops around here are the nicest most sane people you would ever want to meet. Some however are plain mule headed fools even when wrong. You see that is the other side of a small town. We actually KNOW all of our cops as people and we know who we can and cannot hit with something new.

i guess i'm different. I vape in front of cops with my provari. I've been asked about it before. I explain what it is and offer to pour some juice in one of their drug test kits and they just say "nah you are good."

But yes there are an innumerable amount of devices out there for other things besides e liquid. They look similar to our devices but when you look close at them it is really obvious.

.............There needs to be a stronger effort to educate the public about PVs, and ecigs.

Have you done your part? Have you joined CASAA, yet?? Do you support CASAA?

This is the only way currently that a "stronger effort" will be made to educate the public along with all of us vaping openly just about everywhere, but respectfully.

You should file formal complaint. First off, there is no legal requirement for passengers in a car to provide ID during a traffic stop. Second, they illegally seized your property under color of law. Thirdly, you were illegally detained. Fourth, this ws Federal Civil Rights violation because they restricted your trvel on a public highway under color of law.

And finally, you should challenge the stop on it's face, because being 5 miles over the posted limit is considered within the excusable margin of error of your speedometer and the calibrated margin of error of most radar/LIDAR speed -clocking systems that police use. PLEASE look into this, and don't pay the ticket--show up for the court date and challenge it.

I DEFY any LEO to show me a single instance where a legitimate drug bust was made in public based on a "probable cause" search resulting from them seeing a PV in someone's possession. If they can't then their harassment of you is TOTALLY ungrounded, and without merit.

Only by smacking this sort of LEO heavy-handedness down EVERY time it occurs--in the courts, by establishing paper trails of abuse, and by filing formal complaints--will this foolishness stop.

Guys, you act like it's rare that people use PVs for intaking illegal substances... it isn't. I see it in my school all the time (senior in high school). Most look like ego devices, but contain something OTHER than tobacco. Something much smellier.

Really gives a bad name to PVs. Although you could stuff one with 'bacco if you miss the taste, and it has no tar still...

Yep, I have. I already checked them out, as for making a donation, no I haven't yet, considering i just started vaping less than 7 days ago....but I'm sure I will soon.

Also, that ISN'T the only way to "do your part", although I applaud them for doing THEIR part.

The biggest way anyone can make a difference is by sharing with friends and family, contacting senators and whatnot to ensure our voices are heard regarding any silly regulation/laws attempting to be passed detrimental to ecigs.

Also, spreading the word via e-mailing friends, making a blog, posting on facebook all makes a much bigger difference than a lot of people realize.

If enough people become AWARE of what ecigs are, and the industry continues to grow at the exponential rate its growing, then things can very well fall in our favor.

The BEST chance our opponents have of getting regulation/laws passed, is to do it EARLY ON....while people are still confused by the propaganda being put out, and/or still unaware of ecigs.

Thanks for joining and I agree with your other suggestions.

Now if every CASAA member on ECF would add the CASAA banner to their posts, that would help bring awareness to other new members. It's free and can be downloaded from the CASAA web site.

This is what many on here need to realize. Any time I go to a show/bar/party, I invariably get engaged in at least one discussion about my ego and it is more often than not someone asking if I'm using a substance. I would say that it is likely these devices will become a standard delivery system for these substances, just like ecigs have become for nicotine. So we have a new problem: illicit drug delivery systems look exactly like perfectly legal nicotine systems. I'm certainly not advocating for cops to be jerks, but it puts a little perspective on their point of view, trying to do their job. And it highlights a problem for ecig sustainability.
