My gf, her son, 3 of her nieces and I are on the road right now heading up to a cabin for the weekend. About 45 minutes ago we got pulled over for going 75/70. There were two cops coming up to the car and in my lap was my itaste mvp with my protank on it along with my cellphone (I'm in passenger seat). The lady cop shines her light in the car and asks me what "that thing" is, pointing at my mvp. I explained it in layman's terms, but she took it from me and my license, even though I wasn't driving.

So they both go back to their patrol cars with our info and my ecig, which honestly at this point was in dire need of a vape. 30 mins later... Yes 30 mins... They come back and make me explain my device thoroughly, which I oblige. She asked if I had a bottle and I said yes and showed it to her. She didn't like that there was no label (I fill a blank bottle from a 120 ml) but I told her if she simply smelled it she would experience raspberries, lol. After a few minutes she finally mustered the courage to smell it and she's like "hmm I DO smell raspberries". They let us off the hook, and told me that people use devices like mine with illegal substances (is that really a thing?) so they hoped I understood. Weird night...

TLDR: if you get pulled over, hide your pv.

I wanted to make this longer but I'm typing it on my phone since I wanted to share this immediately. Haha

Cool story, thanks for sharing! :vapor:

The crazy thing about this is that I've taken my PVs on airplanes and cruise ships over borders to other countries, and I've never run into a problem. They've never even taken it (or my juice) out of the bag to inspect it or question me. But to some small-town police officers, I felt like I was being interrogated for terrorist intentions or something. My gf and I both have clean records, she works for the government, my brother-in-law is a state senator, we had children with us, and we weren't even going fast. What I'd like to know is what prompted them to pull us over in the first place. I've never been stopped for going 5 over the speed limit, and neither has she.

Hmm, I've often wondered about what cops think of my openly vaping in my car. You'd have to be pretty backwater for folks not to know what vaping is these days. In my little town, I think they have bigger fish to fry than worrying about a guy in a hybrid vaping. Not exactly speed-demon, although my windshield tint may get a complaint. :glare:

At least the REO looks like a juice box. Gotta get my vitamin C!

While I appreciate your candor in this, I'll be adding you to the list of vendors I wont buy from or recommend in the future. We as vapers gain NOTHING by this association.

The OP's orginal post in this thread does a great job of showing just one of the reasons why this forum and many vapers and vendors have tried to distance ourselves as far away from "that" crowd as much as possible.

If they ruin vaping for us (more specifically by causing the delivery devices we use to be banned) , they will just go back to rolling papers and combustion, or even a soda can. Many of us no longer have or want that option to fall back on in regards to our nicotine intake.

I'll just point out that darkstorm is in Colorado where a previously illicit substance has by popular vote been made legal and he specified that his local sales involve this use. I'm not calling attention to this as any personal commentary on the matter, but it does throw yet another factor to consider on this issue.

I live in a small town called Los Angeles, just a tiny out-of-the-way kind of place :)
The cops here are like cops anywhere... There's good, bad, and ugly.
I happen to work with LE and Governmental agencies routinely (I am not LE) and these people work in an environment that I don't envy. They have to be "on point" at all times, or they could lose their life. I respect them for this in the same vein as I respect the soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines who fight in our wars.
Hopping off of soap box... I do vape in my car, and in most places outdoors. I'm still getting over the funny looks and stigma attached to anything that even resembles "smoking" to those not in-the-know. I also don't vape around kids, generally, out of respect for their parents. Despite the extreme growth of the e cig industry and community in recent years, it is still not "mainstream", and we can't expect everyone to be knowledgeable, or even to tolerate it really.
We must be patient, willing to educate, and accept that there will always be folks who just won't get it... LE and other-wise.

You know if they wanted to ban vapes for illicit substances, they would have already...

The man is from Colorado. It's a stoner state. It happens.

I feel both sides of this but in the end, I can't fault the vendor for his position. You can't control what someone does with something once they take it out of the store for one thing and secondly, as was mentioned, vaporizers can/are used with herbs (real) and essential oils so it would be impossible to try and discern the actual intended use of the device prior to the sale. Given the valid legal uses of these devices, I don't see them getting banned but they probably will come under more scrutiny ... as well as those who use them and it's that later part that bothers me. But as with most things, if there is a way to abuse/misuse something, someone will find it.

This was at the very least, informative for me personally. While I knew the devices were very similar in form and function, I was not aware that they were identical. I'm guessing that it's only the delivery device that is different? I can't see an atomizer igniting dry material without cooking itself ...

In any event, it's good to be informed about these things. Ignorance is not bliss! :)

No flies on you man, why willingly close off an avenue of revenue for your business?

And as far as the 120$ for an ego kit...someone told me, then I met someone who paid that...then you tell me it's true.
Un-real...if they only knew! Also, by the by, I put the atty from a RAW on a VAMO, went past the ca ca 3.7 of the **mos pen...WOOOOOAH!

Police officers operate on the principle that if you are doing one thing wrong (speeding) you are probably scufflawing on 'other stuff'.

That is why the incidence of pulling people over for speeding often also uncovers things like suspended licenses, no insurance, outstanding bench warrants, etc.

If you have devices in your motor vehicle they are going to wonder if it relates to your impaired judgement which caused you to drive over the legal speed limit.

Best not to give them an excuse to pull you over in the first place.

I always carry vendor and CASAA cards as well as only use bottles that are labelled (3ml sample bottles from vendors that I just re-fill) when travelling outside of my own town

I'm kind of a stickler about driving, FULLY CONCENTRATED on that task. People lose their lives every day, or spend the rest of their lives maimed and crippled, and from what I see more and more people are on cells phones, looking inside their purse for something, not keeping an eye on the task of driving.

Everyone would be horrified if an airplane pilot did 1/2 the things I see people do in cars....and flying is way safer than being on the road for many reasons.

While I respect that you choose to drive that way, I don't feel that going 75 mph on a highway with mild traffic is all that dangerous. My gf is actually a much slower driver than I, and I actually use a radar detector in my car to avoid getting pulled over. Also, she drives very safely, especially with children in the car. I would guess that less than 1% of drivers going 5mph over the speed limit have "impaired judgement", and I feel that's a bit generous.

As for the bottles...the ones I get from my local shop do have labels, but the new bottles they use are not as good as the old ones, so I use the old ones which have had the labels ruined from being in my pocket so long. I don't even buy 30ml bottles anymore; I only get the 120ml and fill my 30's from it.

If I had a pack of cigarettes on me, would they take those away and inspect them to make sure there aren't any drugs inside of them? No, probably not, because most people smoke cigarettes that are filled with tobacco, just like most people use PV's that are filled with PG, VG, and nicotine.
