Thx Rudy, that helps. Does the wick stay straight or can one bend it towards atty floor? My coils are quite high.

Once the coil is in place and you slip out the needle you can bend the coil toward the floor with the wick inside the coil, the wick is flexible just like silica or cotton and will take the shape of the coil if you like a little dip

And also - do you just dry burn with the XC-116 wick still in it when changing flavors, or do you change the wick like with cotton?

Wherever you buy it, make sure it has been kiln treated, otherwise you can't use it. You burn the coil with the wick, the temps the wick gets aren't high enough to burn the ceramic. It is awesome stuff.

Who is a good source for XC132, my go to suppliers don't carry it?

sngvapor.com
$7.00 per foot. You only need 1/2" per wick. Each wick will last a long time, will last weeks! I usually rewick/recoil about every 2-3weeks.
I found the 132 size better for microcoils,116 to thick.

They sell PRETREATED. Must be pretreated or kiln treated.
$7.00 per foot.
You need not take out or change wick when changing flavors, just dryburn. the wick will keep looking like new if you dryburn on a regular basis. The xc can withstand any amount of heat that the microcoil can produce. Will take like 1200 degrees without burning.

changing coils!!! who changes coils? haha...I'm a coil changing addict...

I have 5 rba's.. one is a gennie and 4 are drippers. the gennie I leave alone for a week or so. but my drippers that I carry with me get changed daily, and the ones that I just use around the house probably every few days.

They don"t need to be changed but I like the performance of a fresh coil and wick. I generally make the same coil each time so It's easy and I can make and set-up a addy in minutes.

They are about the only ones that sell the XC-132. They are the only ones I have found. There is one other place that sells the XC-116.

For those of you who use rebuildable atomizers, how long do your coils and wicks last? Also, do you always rebuild both or just re-wick a coil?

I have been exchanging both coil and wick on a weekly basis, but this is mostly for practical reasons (I don't have the time or peace of mind to do it on weeknights).

How do you decide when it's time for a new coil and/ or wick?

I replace the coil and wick every weekend. A trucker by trade, I don't have time/ resources to change them more often. I use two minis all week, and at the end of the week I wash both REOS, unit and bottle, apply small amount of naalox to firing pin, replace coil/ wick and refill with different juices. Every weekend. I call it weekly maintenance. When I'm out two days 500 miles from my vaping gear I cannot afford a coil failure. So I keep everything up as best I can.

My copper vein grand has only had unflavored nic base in it since I got it so, I only change the wick once a week. No need to change the coil yet.
My black wrinkle, on the other hand, always has either AVE's Boba's or Gorilla Juice in it. I literally change the wick out at least three times a day. I change the coil out at least every other day. If I don't, it starts tasting burnt.
I've been planning to switch to unflavored full time but I still have about 200ml's of BB and 100ml's of GJ. It didn't help at all when I saw that AVE had their BF sale this weekend. They have 25% off BB and GJ. I couldn't seem to stop myself from ordering 200 more ml's of GJ.
Better get some more wire inbound i guess. :D

The juice I mainly use (a peanutbutter/bavarian cream mix) will gunk up a coil super fast. The main reason I got a grand and a rm2 was to make changing the wick quick and efficient. (and I also really wanted one LOL)

My coil (micro coil at 1Ω) has been in it since I got it...about 2 weeks now. Every day, I take the cap off, slide the old wick out, dry burn the gunk off the coil and slide in a new wick. It only takes a couple of minutes and is rather enjoyable. I used cartos in tanks for a long time and found that the flavor would get stale very quick. Nothing I could do but chunk the carto and install a new one.. I hated doing that, I felt like I was throwing money away. Cotton is so cheap that I get a thrill out of the whole rebuilding process. It may be a bit expensive to start but after spending the initial money on the hardware it's now very cost efficient :D

so to answer your question... change the wick when the flavor or vapor performance starts to drop. Change your coil I guess when it quits working. If you use cotton.. it's quick and easy to change out your wick and clean/dry burn your coil. For awhile I was using silica ... wrapping my coil around the silica. But then when I needed a fresh wick, I had to install a new coil also since the coil was wrapped around the wick. I guess if you use silica, you could thread it through the coil without having the wrap a new one. I haven't tried it but I would imagine it's possible.

Re-wicking with silica is quite doable, the trick is to separate the individual threads, hook them in the middle with a loop of wire or a floss threader, and just pull it through doubled over. Trim the ends, dry fire, squonk and vape. Depending on the coil diameter, 2 or 3 "threads" doubled over is just about perfect and it can be done in less than a minute.

That said, it's takes a LONG time for silica to need replacing with unflavored nic, I usually go about 2 weeks between changes. Even then, it more of an "Hmm, what the heck, think I'll stuff a new wick in, just for fun." type of thing.

Rdasuppies sells the kiln treated xv-116, he has videos up on why an how it's so good. I would only buy the stuff that IS kiln treated and if you see tape on the ends it isn't the real McCoy.

Hmmm - I bought my XC-116 at SnG and it's definitely the real thing/kiln treated. XC-116 Ceramic Wick - 12" Heat Cleaned
They heat to over 750deg Celcius.

Comes with tape though.

I have never gotten more than a week to 10 days out of anything, and that goes back to the days when I was using atty's with carts, carotmizers, and carto tanks. I never dripped. Now is use DID clones and Aga T2's (have some Krakens on the way), and Eternity's and BC's when I am away from home which is often. I need something that I can rebuild/swap out quickly when travelling without tools. I am a medium ohm vaper at around 8-12 watts, depending. Just starting to get into mico coils, but I still will not go too low in ohms since my vv mods just cannot handle it.

I DIY my juices and chain vape which might be part of the problem for my short coil life. I really envy the guys who get a month out of a coil.
