I have heard of some of this issues as well and for the most part it seemed to be from users misusing or using incompatible batteries they acquire from elsewhere in their devices. I haven't experienced any of those issues myself. As far as the vapor there is still very little clinical research done on these things, but I can tell you that pg and vg have been used in many things that get inhaled. For instance pg is used to deliver the active ingredient in some asthma inhalers a friend of mine has mentioned that vg has been used in theatrical smoke machines and even in firefighter training. The wild card would be the flavorings and that is usually a low percentage of the whole. In any event it's probably not safer than just breathing, but IMO it's safe for me and highly likely safer than cig's. Welcome.

The incidents you have heard about exploding have been caused by relatively large batteries that were not suitable, or were not properly used, by someone in their e-cig device. Lithium batteries are powerful and need to be handled with respect. Nearly all incidents like this involve "stacking" batteries to create a higher voltage than what one battery would provide or the e-cig was designed for. To my knowledge, there have been no battery explosions resulting in injury that involved an e-cig with a single battery or one that looks like a cigarette.

If you use the proper battery and care for it properly, there is little risk of having it explode. That's the bottom line.

The vapor itself is less toxic than what you breathe when you walk near traffic or stand near a bus or a semi-truck. It's safer than what you breathe all day if you live near a non-nuclear power plant, airport, chemical refinery or oil refinery. It's definitely safer than smoking.

If you're using a proprietary battery like in a 510, 808, or ego, you don't really have to worry too much about it. However, if you move up into mods where you are buying generic batteries, you have to be sure you know what's safe. For instance, you can get 14500s which is about the size of an AA in IMR, protected or unprotected. The IMR has safe chemistry that will get hot but, not explode. The protected has circuits that will shut the battery down in an unsafe condition. The unprotected has neither. Unless you are sure that your mod has protection circuits for the battery, you are taking your life in your hands using unprotected batteries in a PV.

My understanding is that the unfortunate guy that had one explode in his face recently ignored the instructions on the site where he bought the mod and used some unprotected batts he got from Radio Shack. He probably didn't know the difference and thought he was saving money on batteries.

Yes I agree with what everyone has said. If you get into Mods/APV's (they don't look like a cigarette style) the proper batteries must be used in these units, the wrong ones can cause a mishap. Always use the recommended batteries in the APV's (removable batteries). The ecigs that look like a cigarette do not have removable batteries and they are pretty safe to use. There is a video of Clouds ecigs that tested one under all types of events, no problem. bnrk

Heard that e-cigs exploded in someone's mouth causing extensive damage. Can some one please confirm if this is true. How safe is e-cigs and vaphouring.:glare:

Good question..how safe is smoking cigars or cigarettes?

Just as others have said, as long as you know what you are doing in regards to the PVs and batteries you should be safe as far as any explosions go. As far as the liquids themselves, it may or not be 100% safe for vaping, but I will take that over 100% unsafe when talking about smoking.

E-cigs are really safe in my opinion! Someone will walk across the street and get hit by a car today! Someone will have a reaction to some kind of food as we speak, and sadly pass away! Someone will have a basic surgery and unexpectedly get a blood clot!

My point is, that everything in life is an educated risk! I applaud your question, because it is a good and valid one that should be addressed! That being said, e-cigs will always be a much safer alternative to anologs based on my understanding and research!

I just started myself and this whole exploding cigarette issue did have me concerned... Until I watched this White Cloud video on all of the things that they did to try and, "explode" an ecig. Long story short it's almost comical the lengths that they went to try and explode one (blow torches and such) and yet they were still unsuccessful.

Give it a watch it made me feel much better! exploding-ecig

I use two unprotected AW brand IMR 18350's in my VV mod, purchased from a reputable dealer (Lighthound.com), and I feel that my chances of getting injured doing so are approximately the same as my chances of getting mauled by a polar bear and a regular bear on the same day.

If you use the correct batteries and charge and handle them properly, or safer yet, use a single-battery device (sealed or unsealed), vaping is infinitely safer than smoking cigarettes, which are known to be very unsafe.
