How to clean a Kr8 battery

being new to all this, and rather clumsy sometimes. I've managed to soak both batteries I have more than a few times. Both still work, thankfully.

Problem is, one now has a finicky switch, and both have dried juice gunked up around the threads and battery post. Any suggestions for cleaning the gunk or fixing the switch without fubaring everything? I dont want to just dunk the things in alcohol or some such, and cant find anything small and flexible enough to clean the insides of the posts

Are these automatic batteries or manuals? You can try using a Q-Tip or the end of a paper towel that's been dampened (not wet) with 91% Isopropyl Alcohol to wipe out the threads and the post.

You should wipe off the threads, post and the connection on the charger before you put the battery on the charger. If too much juice builds up, it could stop the battery from making a connection on the charger.

i agree with womanofheart, just get a paper towel and wet it a little bit with iso alcohol and just wipe it around the threaded end of the battery. i use 70 percent and it works just fine. (the bx onbase here only sells 70 percent). I cant think of anything else you really need to clean on a battery?

been wiping them down with slightly damp paper towels, but theres still gunk on the inside, between the post and the inside thread wall.

They're manual bat's so I haven't killed them yet thankfully. Like i said one works fine the other has a finicky button, but the gunk I can see in there just annoys me that I can't find a way to get it out, and I'm assuming just dunking them in alcohol would fry them so I haven't tried it.

I have dipped the end of a manual battery in a shallow dish of iso alcohol. Let it sit a few minutes then I get a q-tip to wipe it off. I also get a wooden toothpick or pin and dip it in alcohol and clean the threads off and get inside the battery and get any dried juice out.

thx swedishfish as i said, i was leery of just dunking it for fear of jacking the whole thing up, was hoping for someone to either say it's ok to do or offer a better suggestion.

They're manual batteries so don't be afraid to use a little bit of elbow grease! You'll get the gunk out and as long as no liquid gets into the button area, you'll be fine!

I also used an old toothbrush soaked in alcohol to de-gunk my batteries.

I never even though about doing that! There's another use for an old toothbrush.

lol...I just had the exact same issue. The 510 battery I have did the same thing (actually...I did the same thing by overdripping right into the battery compartment). Completely flooded the thing.

I wiped all the viewable contact areas with q-tips, saturated in isopropyl alcohol, and let it sit overnight to no avail. I tried setting the battery on top of my computer monitor to try and evaporate any liquid still inside the battery, to no avail...

Tried different cartos, atty's, etc. to no avail. I finally, after about 5 days of tinkering with the damn thing, attempted to soak the battery completely in 70% isopropyl to try and dissolve the juice still stuck inside the battery.

I ended up frying the entire unit. I paid VERY close attention to what was going on while it soaked and I noticed that the LED triggered once the unit was completely submerged in the alcohol.

This is a manual 510 battery and I deduced that the alcohol was closing the contacts inside the switch thereby triggering it. In short, it fried the battery.

I've since let the battery dry out completely. The thing is toast. I've tried recharging it (once it was COMPLETELY dry) and it won't even charge at all. nada, bupkiss, zilch...

It sounds, to me, like this is what you are facing. If so, just think about the awesome mod you can make with the parts.
