Hi, I am looking for the small straw that just fits over the tube but I can't find it anywhere. Someone said mickey ds had em but I tried 2 and no go(they had no small straws at all). I have been to bars and coffee shops, they are either 2 big or 2 small. Has anyone found a chain store that carries the right size?

I couldn't find one either so I just cut a big straw lengthwise and taped it to the size I needed. I cut off the excess and made sure there were no areas where the tape could snag the filler.

Has anyone tried taking a waterpik and shooting it down the center tube? I wonder if that would be enough pressure to clean the gunk off of the coil without taking the carto apart? I don't have a waterpik or I would try it.

BTW, thanks for the great tutorial you put together here mohawkx!

Did anyone ever try this? I have a waterpik and a steel cartomizer I am thinking of trying this with. Wonder if out will be more effective than the sonic cleaner.

Sorry for the newb and or obvious questions but I haven't ever used these types of cartos and I have some of the 510 2.0ohm Kanger cartos on their way and just wanted to ask if the cleaning method on the 1st couple of posts will work for these Kanger cartos or if they are built the same way as the GoGo?

I know they both are horizontal coils but wasn't sure if there was anything different between the two other than the connection threads.

I'm going to try these on my carto tanks and just didn't know if when the performance begins to decrease if I can just take out the filler, wash it clean and then dry burn the coil?

Also, with this method of cleaning, what's the average life span people are getting out of these types of cartos and does anyone have a recommendation where to get new filler that can be used, if the stock filler ends up going bad after repeated washes?

Thanks for any help and information:)

Never tried it with Kanger 2.0 cartos. I've never even seen one. So far the method works with all horizontal cartos though. Echo, Igo and gogo. Fluval is a very good replacement filler. You get it in pet stores. It's for fish tanks. Depending on the juice you use, the cartos will last months and months. You can reuse a cartomizer as long as you can dry burn the caramelized juice off the coil and get it clean again. Cartos are built like a truck on the gogo. Many who use thick juices dry burn every two or three days to refresh the carto.

The fluval works well. Eric at go-gousa has also found a replacement for the inner filler. He says it's not exactly the same as far as the draw, but it works well. You can find that (and fluval, if you don't want to look at a pet store) on the go-gousa.com website.

Does anyone know exactly what the material is that is used for the inner filler?

Urge

We've talked quite a bit about this and finally GoGoUSA managed to find something close and for only $.99 for a pack of 10.

Here's what he says about it.

"Replacement Inner Fill for your cartomizers.

I have found this to be the closest replacement for the inner fill that actually works.
It is a bit thicker than the regular inner fill but seems to work just fine as a replacement. You get 10 or so 2"x2" fill pieces that you will have to cut to size.

Used to replace the inner (not outer) batting in cartomizers.

Enough for 10 or more cartomizers."

Unless you were talking about the fluffy filler and not the inner small piece of filler inside that. GoGoUSA also sells that or you can buy it at a pet store in the aquarium section. It's called "Fluval Water Polishing Pad" so be careful you don't buy the other Fluval filters because they won't work.

I've been meaning to ask.... I've got this Fluval, and did a bang-up job re-fitting a carto...NOT. Now I'm thinking, of course, I forgot the inner batting! So I'm gonna get some of that from Eric's site. In the meantime, for us who are not so DIY inclined (muchly so! ), can someone provide a to-scale template for each piece and/or measurements on both pieces please? That would be most helpful! TIA

I just pull it apart, thickness wise, into thirds then cut it about the same size as the old filler maybe a little smaller but the same length. It's not necessary to get it exact, just not too tight. I actually was able to put in less and it didn't leak and wicks better than the original filler. If I remember the next time I replace the filler I'll measure it and let you know.

I know he is selling this but he says it is the closest he could find. I want to know what is is-exactly. I might try and take a piece to a local fabric store and see if they can identify it.

Urge

I think Eric did quite a bit of research and this is the closest he could come up with. Let us know what you find out. In the meantime, I'd just order some from him. It's $1 for 10 pieces, iirc, cheap enough to try at least.

I doubt a fabric store would have it. I don't think it's a woven fabric. Some kind of non-woven cotton (maybe cotton?).

Meh. I used to clean the cartos, but I decided that my time, effort and money saved was not worth the extra couple of bucks I would save over buying new ones. Plus new cartos taste oh so nice :)

I liken carto cleaning to rolling butts, yeah you could squeeze a few more smokes out of that pack but is it worth it?

Well I can offer one tip of advise so far - don't wait until you have a whopping 35 cartomizers to clean and rebuild. Sheesh it's taking me awhile, especially this being my first time and all. We are leaving for a long trip soon and I thought it would be good but dang it's taking me awhile. So far, cartos have been soaked, filling has been removed, cartos have been washed (3-5 min each under hot water), filler has been cleaned. Some burned patches for sure but not too bad, and those where on VG juices so it will be good to cut that out and have less filler anyhow.

Now tonight will be dry burns and rinse, tomorrow re-assembly, the next day filling. One thing I noticed - there had been a batch of subpar cartos, silver with gold bottoms. Now I know why, they had no inner filler whatsoever. So some poor person here who kept saying his were leaking, everyone was giving him advise - I wonder if he may have had these duds. I had only used them in tanks and it's a wonder they worked at all. The filler is also scratchier and bumpier. I also noticed that the colored cartomizers have a slightly thinner filler than the original blacks I got back in March. Not saying that's good or bad, just noticing the difference between different batches. Two duds that I had there also had no inner filler (Eric sent me 2 replacements, which is awesome.)

One question before I begin the next steps - for the silver cut cartomizers with no inner filler - can I just put fluval back in and again have no inner cotton layer, if they are going to be used in tanks? I don't have time to order the stuff on Eric's site, we're leaving Sun. Or, can I use just blue foam? Any tips mightily appreciated. I will be sure to post my results!
