I have seen some message on the main GG product thread about deep and shallow engravings.
IMO, all the laser engravings (from GGTS #2050 on, AFAIK) were ORIGINALLY deep, some engraving may NOW look shallow only because the owner was .... retentive about mirror polishing and literally consumed his unit. ;)

Anyway, the pre 2012 production had no-laser engraving and of course the engravings are much more shallow; my question is: how we can classify the old style no-laser engravings? Maybe mechanical? I miss the english word for the tool used for mechanical engravings...

You are wrong my friend. The 2012 batch of September were shallow engravings.

- What you mean for shallow? Laser but shallow?
- Serial involved? The units I have around # 5000 are NOT shallow...

I am not sure if it is laser or not but I know it is not as deep as the latest batch of ggts' s or justGG. Serial is 3854

OK, I have #3860 here ;-)

it is laser - too deep to be mechanical - I agree it is a little less deep than normal, but much more deeper than other units pre-2012.
Do you confirm?

I don't have anything before 2012 unfortunately so I confirm :D. But you see how it is less deep than others.

Also I have a 3554 which is same year but with deeper engravings like the new ones maybe shallower a bit but deeper than the 3854 one and the 3554 has smaller wings.

Ok, so maybe I must change my theory about excess of cleaning for shallow engravings. ;)

Frankly speaking my unit seems having been overpolished by previouis howner, expecially on the serial # side, which is slightly shallower then the wings; I have also a brass unit with not regular shallow engravings (the deepness change between left and right wings!) which have been overpolished for sure.
Of course: if you have a GGTS with close # with shallow engravings and you were the first user and you know you didn't overpolish...

Runar! Maybe we must add another version?

P.S. for the pre 2012 engravings, we have some beautiful photos in the main thread.

Actually Runar has indicated that information is not known regarding engravings for this series.

Yes the 3854 is brand new. And it is shallower than the 3554 or any new JGG engraving. By the way I have brass too that are in the 4000 ' s that have the same engraving as the 3854.

I will post all my GGTS statistics soon maybe that might help.

ADD: All my GG'S are brand new so no polishing effects at all.

Busy days here now :) But i think we have a problem saying what is shallow and what is not as long as we dont see them side by side. What i think is shallow may someone think its not. I would think you Otello is the closest to see this since you got so many of them :toast: I got a new the other day and i thought it looked very shallow, but after looking closer i think it has been polished very hard over some time ... This is difficult ;)

Well, as far as I'm concerned, I couldn't split my GGTSs (Brass and SS with serial # >2050) in deep and shallow; most units fall between the extremes...
My feeling is the setting of the engraver machine changed a little from one batch to another, but not enough for "declaring" different versions, expecially if you compare these units to the older ones (Alu., Nickel and SS with serial # <2050), which are REALLY shallow. ;)

Yes, the question is if there are different engravings in the 2012 edition. (#2050 - #5499) There has been said that there should be some shallow and some deep.

I don't know if this photo helps...

From the left to the right: 1) Alu 2012... 2) Brass 4221... 3) SS 2704... 4) SS GGTB... 5) SS 369... and the last in the picture is SS 4646

Just out of curiosity, which style is your favorite? (this question goes everyone with older style and Imeo too)
For noob like me, I like the newer wider wing (purely based on the picture).

btw, nice collection! :toast:
