When i vape in public, people always stare at me for using such a big device and vapor are coming out of it.. What i told them was, this is a very "safe" device to use meaning that it has lesser damage then those analogs and help you save money too.. *only if mods don't release too often la... lol

Then, it will be damaging to the wallet instead!! :D

i think the best way is to share your experience with the people around you. take for example, i got to know of this community thru a friend of mine. Got into vaping personally and shared it with my friends and family. now my dad intends to convince my uncle to switch to vaping so as to appease my aunt.

why bother trying to convince the authority that what we are doing is much healthier than smoking? if anything, it's just another tax revenue for them. stay healthy, and vape heartily people!

Well, let's put it this way.

I smoke cigarettes.
I am smoking cigarettes.
I smoked.
I am a smoker.

VS

I vape electronic cigarettes.
I am vaping from my electronic cigarette.
I vaped.
I am a vaper, not raper.

Vaping came from the term vape. Vape is a derivation from the phrase "smoking electronic cigarettes" and we can call it the "internet jargon", not sure whether it is in the oxford dictionary yet but still, its origins came from electronic cigarettes. Thus, it is impossible to not associate vaping with cigarettes.

-

In Psychological Context

As for whether the possibility of vaping will be disassociated with smoking, most probably and definitely a no. People smoke mostly because of the nicotine. Nicotine is present in vaping, but for some no. Thus, the common link in smoking and "smoking" (which is nicotine), is a strong one due to the fact that the primary and primary motive is to get a nicotine kick, which can be related to smoking. For instance, "I smoke ah need some nicotine." Thus, we can say that there's a direct association with "smoking" and smoking.

As for secondary motivation, we can link it to social needs (the likes of social smokers) and security needs; there's a common reason behind smoking and "smoking". The common ground aka motivations will already link them to each other on a secondary motive level. Example, Social Vaping VS Social Smoking. Example 2, "I need to smoke" or "I need to vape".

Also, the ideology of "smoke" c most oming out off your mouth will already associate it to smoking; for people, there is already sufficient evidence (the "smoke" coming out of your mouth) to prove that you are a smoker unless more knowledge about electronic cigarettes have been educated.

Example; if Person A does not know about vaping and sees "smoke" coming out of your mouth, the psychological link and connection to the stereotype and analogy of smoke itself will trigger Person A will interpret the "smoke" as cigarette/analog smoke. Therefore, you will be considered smoking to Person A.

That's good..... I do, therefore I am.

Its all in the perception I believe. Alot resistance to vaping I noticed comes from not knowing what's in the juice. Item A is cigarettes. "Allowed the world over and everybody knows its just a leaf so its safe." Item B is a chemical. "Banned in some places and looks like bug spray so its scary!"

Resistance to change exists in various degrees. KBW definitely feels he is fully justified to ban e-cigs in end 2009 because the lack of opposing voice does not merit a need to change his views. He was firmly rooted that vaping is just an alternate form of recreation that Sg does not need.

I can tell you if then the terms "vaping", mods, cartos and ejuice where to be widely published, it would have degraded e-cigs to the status of an alternative to ecstacy!

I firmly believe that associating vaping as an alternative to analog smoking is the best ROA for the community in Sg. Then changes to legislature can be possible with changes in mindset. Currently the lack of knowledge on it is pushing it to the borders of being a soft drug in Sg.

Again isn't that just a perception? How many of you see colours in the vapors with your favorite ejuice?

well..good point...citing some examples from what i know, Harley Davidson Motorcycles were banned earlier locally. Why? because it was associated to gangs in the US. Full faced helmets were banned as they could be easily used for robberies hiding your face. both bans were subsequently lifted after for so long.....not to mention casinoes and motor racing...
and for shisha..they only came about not so long ago but what's the history and all i don't know.
i hope they do they same for vaping be it they take a bit of time.

Aye aye... Nobody likes to be branded a fool, least of all the government. When enough perception changes occur around the world and amongst its people, changes to legislature have to take place to keep up with the times.

BTW there is a move amongst the gay and lesbian community in Sg now to overturn a centuries old law regarding homosexuality. They have taken the government to court based on the fact that such a law is unconstitutional. 20 years ago they would have slapped you silly with everything available at hand to quieten the dissent.

So we do have a chance at a listening ear now with the gov, chance at law changes to our advantage.

Keep on walking!

Shisha was because it was getting to the point of uncontrollable I guess. Kids these days often patronize those stores even when they re underaged because they like the flavor, and the fact that it may be easier to get their nicotine kick from cigarettes cause it is easier to purchase.

I am quite happy for the LGBT community, proud to be part of it, and I hope that one day things will get better for those in the community as well. Everyone is human after all :D

Guys, the best example is chewing gum! We have grown up with no chewing gum in our childhood. But look! Chewing gum is no longer banned in sg anymore!

Give it time like what eyespan said about perception changes around the world. Our govt is really careful not to jump onto the bandwagon without substantial research.

So lets just wait it out and vape on!
