The comtrol ring is a bit tricky...the short version is to get a ultra sonic cleaner or cheat like i do and find a jewlery store that will do it for you.

the mothers and most of them are simply jewlers rouge that's disolved in something like mineral spirits ......its made with white jewlers rouge

That's awesome! I can see it now, walk into jewelry store "yes I'd like to get my control ring cleaned up". Of course!!! Would you like to wait or pick it up. "Oh hell no, not a GG item. Ill wait thanks"

I actually have this 6" Ryobi bench grinder (3,600 RPM max)... I'll have to find a buffing wheel for it. I have a dremel, too, if there is anything I can use that for? It's one speed, though.. and I think it's 35,000 RPM.. probably too high for anything like this?

Dremel wheels are soo small I find it very difficult to polish a big item like the ggts. You may get an uneven polish.

As to your brass question depending on conditions and your skin expext to need a polish between 3 days and every couple weeks. I personally don't mind the tarnished look but I like classic brass stuff.

I've learned to love tarnished brass. It was either that or go insane.

Haha true! I guess I don't really mind the tarnished look, either, but it's pretty nice when it's shiny! Brushed brass would probably still tarnish, I assume? I love brushed SS and have been debating on doing that to a couple of my pieces as well... not sure if I can bring myself to do it, though!

The problem with a dremel is it spins so fast the the heat builds up and when the metal is hot it softens up making it easier to scratch so your not really buffing out the scratches your simply making all the scratches uniform in direction and therefore harder to see. with a slow turning buffer it won't heat up as easy or as fast alowing you time to polish.

Yeah that makes sense. When I first heard that people used buffing wheels for some reason I pictured a dremel, and I was wondering "how do they get it so even??" but that makes sense.. they use a nice big wheel!
I'll get those buffing wheels at Home Depot.. do you think I would use all 3? Or should I try to find just a regular cotton one online somewhere?

Guys i have a drememl, and I use a felt tip cone shaped. I used it on a button and it was nice and shiny. Are you saying that if i use it on the tubes it will look bad and I might ruin it? I am not gonna buy a wheel for this :(

EDIT: Wait is it enough to buy a wheel and attach it on a dremel? or a Drill? or there is a special drill for polishing with low speeds?
