That's because you screwed up somewhere along the process. Mesh wasn't oxidized well, coil was too tight or too loose, or the wick was touching something it shouldn't have been.
Everytime I have made a genesis style coil for iAtty or Odysseus (It really isn't that hard to do) the flavor is akin to sucking on the exhaust pipe of a 1950's buick with a blown head gasket. But we all have our likes and dislikes.

Then you know what's up ;)
I still have mad love for my Odys, but there's just something about the flavor and vapor production i get with mesh that keeps drawing me deeper and deeper into my genesis addiction...
Only way I can enjoy a geni is by "Ricking" it. But it makes me lose my breath lol

I think it's just a lot of wishful thinking :(
Imeo has stated numerous times he's not going to make a genesis type atty. But if you love both GGs and mesh attys, I highly suggest trying out a mesh u-wick in an iAtty! Here's a guide that lorderos33 posted a while back:

Frankly, a mesh wicked iAtty is arguably the best genesis atomizer to date for many users (though they don't know it yet!). It NEVER leaks (even if you lay it on its side *gasp*), it has adjustable airflow (and potential for as tight of a draw as you can imagine, which NOT ONE other genesis atomizer can boast, it employs a U-wick, so you'll neverrrrrr get dry hits, it features bottom fed airflow, it has a smaller vapor chamber than even a hellfire mini, so you can get as much throat hit as you'd like, you can set it up using imeo's premade resistance wires, so you can wrap a perfect coil without fear of any shorts or hotspots, it's GGTS native (pure perfection), and it was made with love by Imeo, which no other genesis atomizer was or will be. Sorry for the rant, but people tend to overlook the iAtty as it's been "replaced" by 2 new devices, but it's truly one of the most versatile atomizers in the game if you ask me.

I agree that the iAtty is a great atomizer, but it isn't suitable for extremely low resistance because of the plastic insides. I melted mine against the NR wires, so you have to be careful with them. I also agree that the U-Mesh-Wick is fantastic for it's wicking ability. My Orions pump out flavor and vapor that's unparalleled. That said, I do also agree that it's a pain the read end to setup up properly and requires tinkering to keep it running. Compared to the Ody, it's night and day. I don't pop coils in one or the other that often, but I do find the mesh (when properly setup) lasts longer than silica wick. Lately, I've switched to Imeo's mesh around silica wick for my Ody and it works just as long as straight mesh. With all said, I think each has it's place in my vape rotation, but one thing can't be disputed, the Ody DOES NOT LEAK!

Ive never try the OG iatty but after i got my ody v2 and penelope all i can say these are the best atomizers in the market nuff said; use mesh on these attys with fiber or anyother wicking material you like to run in the channels and feed the mesh (after you run some juice "fiber" taste will go away) and you have the best genesis style probably; im waiting for my ggts to arrive and looking forward to score the proper ody base to check the air control bussines :) if its that much game changer like people say your only buying more devices because either you are a enthusiast or doing something wrong with setup.

There are lots of wick options.

I have a fully functioning mesh Ody and it's pretty good. I found creating shorts on it during the wire wrapping and seating process was happening. It's mainly due to the NR/R connections scraping the wick upon installation. I found the cigarette paper trick took care of that problem easily.

I'm using other wick materials right now as well. I've found my preference and it's neither silica or mesh. That's kind of the wonderful thing about these kinds of devices, so customizable.

I'd love to know more about alternates. Link please :) Penelope just arrived and it is sweet.
