Hello everyone, my name is Chris. I am eighteen years old and have been smoking a half a pack of Canadian classic smokes for 6 years. Today is actually my birthday and I've decided to quit smoking and to use an e-cig as an alternative.

I must say I am fairly satisfied with my e-cig so far, although I wish it was a little bit stronger. I'm using a Itaste MVP (not sure if it's the first or second model, pretty sure it's the first) with Brown Bunny 18mg e-juice.

I've been using it for 4 hours so far and it seems to be doing the trick. I've got a few questions for the community.

How much e-juice did you vape a day when you started off? and how much smokes were you smoking when you quit?
How did your first few days go? Did you still feel a big craving for smokes?

Thanks for reading.

i originally bought my ecig for the novelty after trying my friends a couple times. the first few days i got my vape i almost forgot to smoke just because of new and exciting vape. after that novelty wore off, i re-adjusted to smoking almost the same amount i was before but now in addition to vaping

i did not even know people were successfully getting off cigarettes until i came here. i was smoking AND vaping simultaneously for about 2 months.

i havent smoked in 3 weeks. i used to smoke ~10 marlboro reds a day. i vape 2-3 mls a day mostly @ 18mg nic

**the biggest step in getting off the cigarettes was letting myself run out of them and NOT buying another pack.** as long as i had cigarettes i was still smoking them albeit less and less until i finally decided to pull the plug

thanks for the post and welcome to ecf

The first day was probably the hardest because I still had half a pack of stinkies left when my vape mail came in. So I would take 3-4 puffs on my PV and it wasn't *quite* cutting it, so I would light up a stinky.

Once I ran out of the analogs though, I found it much easier. Since I didn't have the backups, I would just take 5-6 good puffs on the e-cig and it would hit the spot.

At this point, I actually take few puffs, but just take them more often. So glad I made the switch!

Edit: Oh forgot to mention. I was a slightly more than pack a day smoker for about 7 years. I started with some 16(?) mg juice and for the first few days I probably vaped a bit less than a 2ml tank a day. I'm probably up to around 3-3.5ml a day now though, partly just because I like my current juice so much better than those I picked up at first :p

First, welcome to the forum, and congratulations to you for doing this good thing for yourself, especially at such a young age. You will save yourself tons of money and your health!

I was a heavy smoker, about 2 packs a day for over 40 years. I know, as young as you are that's probably mind boggling, lol. So I had a lot of years of habit to break, as well as the addiction to the chemicals in cigarettes.

I did not want to smoke, and determined that every time I felt the slightest urge, I would vape instead. The first few days, I vaped a whole lot, and didn't worry about how much, as I was not smoking. I started with 18 mg. juice, and realized that I needed to bump it up to 24 mg. to avoid having the vague, anxious feelings I was having. The 24 mg. worked very well, and I was soon comfortable again.

Everyone is different, but I think your mindset has a lot to do with how successful you are. Vaping is not "magic". If it was, no one would ever smoke again. You have to want to quit, too.

Sounds like you have a good set up and are off to a successful start!:)

First, Welcome to ECF! And second, Happy Birthday! aha
Glad to see you've decided to step away from analogs. Since everyone is different with their transition, it really depends.
With me, i smoked a pack of marlboro reds, and one or two bowls of hookah a day. I started with 24mg of this cherry flavored ejuice that i got from a smoke shop. It wasn't that good, but it worked for me. My device was an ego c-twist 900mah and a basic ce4.

roughly, i went through a 15ml bottle in a week to two weeks. Due to school and jobs, i'm never home so i only got to vape/smoke during breaks and inbetween classes.

For 1 month i switched back and forth between cigarettes and my vape. Apparently i haven't used my hookah ever since, because i actually preferred the flavors my ejuice and due to getting lazy to set it up ahaaa.

anyways, after about a month into vaping doing research and such, i saw people at shops blowing clouds and that was something i could get into. I got my first mechanical mod and rda. and that pretty much took off from there. No cigarettes ever since.

Good luck and hope this goes smoothly for you! And happy birthday again! lol

I planned my transition. I got extras and such.

I smoked a PAD for 30+ years. I started with a slightly higher nic level than I thought I needed. It gave me confidence in that it would work. A little bouncing around in understanding at first but I searched around. I finally found the site after about 30 days. A LOT of reading and listening. Made a list of acronyms and what they meant. Took a bit, but if I didn't understand I searched.

I like to say that "one day I smoked, the next day I was a vaper".

I was smoking my last analog on the way to the vape store as today is my 37th birthday. I want a shot at seeing my grand kids if not great grand kids. At any rate the reality that I had been smoking for 25 years smacked me in the puss and I figured enough is enough. Will power or determination are still going to be key but I can definitely say I am not the Ahole I was when I tried to quit with the gum or patch. In fact every time I want a cig I vape 3-5 puffs and I am good. Stay strong young person. Don't wait another twenty years to get free of tar and all the other nastiness.

Welcome to ECF, and happy birthday! Congrats on deciding to make the switch as well.

The MVP is a great device, I use mine every time I leave the house.

I was a pack a day smoker for 20 years, and when I started, I vaped about 6ml per day of 18mg eliquid. Now, I'm at 12mg and I vape between 3-6ml per day. Though I vape when I want to, I'm not limited to certain times or places so I just do it whenever.

My first few days were great, I didn't crave analogs at all, but after about the first week, I got a craving that even chain vaping didn't fix. What I did, was I went out and got a cig from a friend, lit it up, and after 2 puffs realized it tasted like crap, and then stamped it out.

One thing that I've heard and seen people say that applies is that it's not about the cigarettes you smoke, it's about the ones you don't. So if you feel the need for a cig, have one, even if it's just to remind you of how gross they are.

You are a smart young man!! Getting off cigs now while you are young is the best thing you can do for your life and your health. I smoked for about 40 yr (didn't' seem that long until I had to realize how far I was away from 16) and when I finally decided to quit it was because I retired and was smoking way too much between the boredom and "permission" to smoke nonstop. Lucky me, I got my first e-cig just as the first of two polar vortex things hit our area. It was so cold that I had a coat on in the house--no way I was going outside just to get cigs. So I vaped and vaped and vaped. And never had another cig. Yay me! And yay, you, too!!:toast:

I am now on Day 12, the first day was tough, I have smoked for 44 years, giving up my habit isn't easy. Each day has been easier than the last. Probably the hardest part is that my wife still smokes.

That does make it more difficult, but not impossible. You can do this. I can sympathize with your wife, though.

My sweet hubby quit cold turkey quite a few years ago, due to having a quintuple bypass and complications. He got through it and made a full recovery, and never smoked again. I feel guilty to confess this, but I sure didn't make it easy for him at all. I kept smoking, and didn't quit until 3 months ago when I started vaping.

I don't know how that dear man did it, but he never nagged me about my smoking all those years after he quit, not one time. That probably lets you know why we've stayed married for 49 years, and I know how lucky I am to have him.:)

I picked up my ego starter kit the when I had one entire carton left. I smoked a smidge over a pack a day of MB Lights for 25 years, so I figured I needed some transition time--and I wasn't even really sold on quitting. I was thinking to at least cut down, but turn my back on my light, cylindrical "friends?" What would I do without them?

I think that carton kept me sane and also gave me the courage to go without. The carton lasted me about a month (instead of a week), and each burnie tasted worse than the last (although never so bad that I couldn't smoke it all). Finally, when I finished my last pack early Monday morning, I figured I'd see how long I could go without buying any more. So far, so good on several clearos of 12 and 18 mg liquids (12 for the chain vaping, 18 for the occasional bump). I do get the desire (not craving) to try a burnie to see what they're like now... and then I say to myself, "Maybe someday... just not today."

Hi I used to smoke 2 packs a day for 25 years but I have been tobacco free now for six days with the help of vaping. I started out with the e cigarettes and was only more frustrated because I couldn't get enough vapor or throat hit. The batteries never lasted and it was awful. So I decided their has to be something better!! That's when I got my vaporizer. It made such a different to me that was it for the stinkies. Any time I wanted a smoke I'd vape. I vape like all day!! But it worked! Then about day 3 or 4 my since of smell returned.! And I was so supreme cigarettes started to stink to me when my husband smoked. He's still smoking in front of me but instead of wanting it I would find it gross smelling. I'm vaping 24 in nicotine so I didn't have withdrawls. When the time is right I will also reduce the nicotine but right now I need it. Vaping has been such a blessing for me! I won't leave home without my mod! So all in all my first few days went so bad. I'd just vape anytime I thought of a smoke. It's worked great so far!

I like to say that "one day I smoked, the next day I was a vaper".

This. When I first started vaping, I loved it, but I was still smoking cigs along with vaping. I needed to make a mental shift.

See, when I started, I came with a mentality of, "I want my nicotine, and I can get that from vaping and smoking." I hadn't separated the two. It wasn't until I decided that I wasn't just a nicotine user, but a vaper and no longer a smoker, that I was able to fully make the transition.

As you know the MVP is a pretty big and heavy mod, how do you carry your MVP around with you?
