Hey there, newbie here. Like most, I've spent A LOT of time trying to read up and educate myself here but still looking for some recommendations and clarifications... and to get my post count up so I can post everywhere ;)
I think I've decided on a KD808D-1 kit for my first purchase. I'm generally looking to start simple and make the transfer from analog as easy as possible. I've also found a local shop that carries a re-branded version, the cig2o, and cartomizers. I won't be actually purchasing the cig2o but local resources are quite limited and I like the idea of not having to wait for shipping every time, especially if it's urgent. I want to quit my analog habit and not go back because I missed the UPS guy
Now I'm narrowing down the vendor choices... it appears most places are simply selling rebadged Kangers but I've found one or two that seem to have some other source and specifically say their PCC won't work with other KR808 batteries. Anyone have any experience with this? I'm on the road a good amount and a PCC seems like a no-brainer, actually can't see myself using a wall or USB charger often.

OK, that's probably good for now. Looking forward to hearing feedback and finally ordering my kit.
Thanks, Lax

Hey there and welcome!

I just want to throw out there that as a total noob myself only a few weeks back that you've come to the right place. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong but I believe there are three vendors that are selling a new improved 808; these are vapor4life, smokeless image and bloog. I can personally recommend the smokeless image volt because I have one and have used it quite a bit. There are tons of reviews on the site for all 3 of the models. You should take a quick look.

But really it's hard to recommend the 808 knowing that something for the same price can give you much more of an analog feel. A Joye ego or any of the (many) ego clones (some of which are definitely better) can help you get the throat hit and vapor production you're used to that maybe helps you stay quit instead of not. You could read reviews here on the ego, the kgo, the e-power, the no-ego and others to find out which one sounds best for you. I really like the portability and look of my volt but if I was going to be doing all my vaping from home/office/car I might skip the 808 step entirely.

Oh and try juices until you find one you really enjoy!

I recommend manual batteries - I strongly recommend them - strongly. Easier to get a good hit, and much less likely to be damaged or killed by the occasional carto juice leak onto the end of the battery.

I recommend the 280mah standard batteries (120mm long w/ a carto on) over the 180mah shorties

Top choices for KR808D-1 manual hardware:
LiteCigUSA.net - basic original manufacturer KR808D-1 manual kit
Vapor4Life - any standard manual kit
SmokelessImage manual Volt kit

And buy liquid! I recommend thin clear liquids, 20% VG or less, and you'll find lighter clearer liquids are less likely to leave flavoring residue. At Vapor4Life my fave flavors are WOWbacco (cocoa tobacco) and WOW Vanilla (sweet marshmallowy vanilla) and both have a sharp-edged hit (too sharp for some at 24mg, too sharp for be at 18mg haha). I find some of Vapor4Life's fruit flavors overdone. You can also get cartos at Bloogplanet and Smokeless Image. I use blanks from Vapor4Life and I'm trying the Madvapes standard KR808D-1 cartos (they come in black and white).

I also like Dekand Chinese RY4 from Madvapes or LiteCigUSA.net or elsewhere - a sweet caramelly tobacco

On hotter cartos like the Vapor4Life WOW carts and the the Madvapes 2.5 ohms black or white stuffing-type cartos, I use a plastic or delrin drip tip as a mouthpiece in the carto instead of the endcap (LiteCigUSA.net has the ones I use). I do not drip into it! But it is easy to remove for adding juice.

I posted this earlier in another thread - so I'll just copy and repost it here for you . . .

As a "newbie," I really wanted/needed an "analog" look and feel to make the transition into the "World of Vaping." So after doing a lot of research here at ECF and the on the Internet, I finally decided on trying the new Halo "G6," particularly for the ease and "new" technology of their cartomizers. So far - So Good . . . As far as I know, it is very similar to and compatible to the KR808. It is easy to use 2 piece model and I like both the Manual & Automatic Batteries. As for the "new" cartomizers - they have a good mouth "feel" and are so easy to fill using the "condom" method. And although, I do plan on upgrading to something I can use at home more often, for traveling (especially while driving) and going out to public places the "G6" is very convenient and unobtrusive. It is priced reasonably and one that you might want to look into . . . You can find it here: Electronic Cigarette by Halo

BTW: I can attest to Halo's Customer Service as being quite excellent, especially given the response I've gotten from JB/ Jay Blazio when I needed help with correcting and adjusting my orders from them. :thumb:

    in a cave, eh?
Good luck with your purchase. I usually recommend a Smokeless Image volt based solely on price. Vapor4Life is a good place to start for juice or prefilled cartomizers.

And somebody needs to explain to me why HaloCigs KR808D-1 is really so much better than the other good Kanger KR808D-1 systems with the 2.5/2.6 ohm cartomizers. :?:

Thanks for the input. I have looked at the eGo quite a bit due to so many recommendations for noobs. I am shying away from models that don't have an analog appearance to begin with. I'm in Montana and travel the state quite extensively and if you've ever been pulled over in a really small town I think you can appreciate wanting to blend in ;) I'm a complete gadget hound and know I will try most different models in time

Thank you, I couldn't remember who did the Volt... Ya look at this stuff long enough and models start to blend together  I had seen a recommendation to start with a manual and one automatic which makes sense to me. I'm planning one manual standard length, one shorty auto just to give some variety to start with.

Thanks, I had seen the Halo name thrown around but not looked into that model specifically.... Great, another contender ;)

I am completely with ya! I've seen comments that really most models are simply rebadged and sourced from the same spot. Being in the electronics industry, this sounds right to me. Because of this I'm narrowing vendors largely by price, as long as I'm confident it is the same core product, and then service/reputation.

    Thanks everybody for the input!

welcome to ECF LAX, and I would listen to Dormouse on the model you are asking about. I do not own one of those.

Thanks, and yeah...I'm getting that impression;)

Speaking of which, @Dormouse I noticed you didn't recommend the Bloog for a KD808, any reason? Another starter kit I was considering was from MyVaporStore, opinions?
    Thanks in advance.

the bloog is the volt, just more expensive.

i'm going to 3rd (or 4th) the volt. i've used an 808 for about a year. i've gotten models from everyone from smoketip to vapor4life to generic and the volt is easily the best 808 model i own. its a hard thing to explain but theres just a noticeable increase in quality over other models. the draw is perfect and the cartos put out clouds of vapor, its almost obnoxious lol.

i rarely back a specific brand or supplier but i recommend the volt without hesitation.

Thanks xg. This was exactly my thought, just like a lot of KR808's being sold in different colors by different suppliers. But then you say this...

And now I have to wonder if they really are the same hardware  So does the battery last longer? Does it produce a different charge? Even thread together smoother? Or is the cartridge just better?
I'm not trying to insult you or second guess your opinion, just interested to find out as much as possible before making a final decision and slapping down the plastic.
    Thanks again xg :toast:

my $.02....go with your instinct and go with the 808...I have used many, many pv's and it is the most analog-like which really helps the transition. IMHO they are far superior to the Ego's and copies which are lower voltage and therefore lower vapor/flavor as a rule...they do have longer batt life, but are bigger/clumsier and do not vape the same (I have 2 but only use them as a back up to dead 808's)

Bloogs and Volts are both awesome (reported to be from the same factory) and again, IMHO, they stand out above all other 808's I've tried for quality. Bloogs cartos are my favorite for performance and longevity...there does seem a difference there (I'm guessing filler)

I started on Bloog....never had another puff of an analog from the moment I opened my kit. I have tried most everything since always looking for new/better/different, but they are still my 99% of the time pv's!

Best of luck!!! Anything that gets you off analogs is a good thing!

I swear the minute you think you make a decision you should just order... cause then you start reading some more and things get confusing again :?: But I'm glad I kept reading and comparing the starter kits cause I will ultimately end up with exactly what I want.... for now.

Thanks for the input Green Mtn. Without having any actual experience it does seem the Bloog is a quality product and I imagine I will be seeing some of their product in the future ;-) Right now I think I'm sold on the Volt...read some great reviews but more than anything I can pick exactly what I want in the starter kit all the way down to battery style (manual/auto/color/size) PER battery :2cool: and the cartos from Bloog that I'm interested in don't seem to be avaliable at all, starter kit or individually. Not sure if they're just outta stock or what.

Anywho, thanks everybody for the feedback. I'm so excited about this step I feel like my analogs are just holding me over till my pv arrives....weird
