Hello to all! I am a new member, but I'm not new to vaping.

I started off in 06 or 07 sometime, back when the original 510s were about the best there was. I tried 510s and the tornado tank which was an early tank style, and those just weren't good enough. So I got tired of spending money and went back to smoking regular (analog) cigs.

About a year ago I decided to see how far vaping had come and picked up an ego v2 with a kanger protank 2. That setup was decent, but still not the greatest and I still smoked analogs. I broke the ego before long when I was on vacation and ended up buying a Tesla to replace it.

I stuck with the Tesla despite all the comments on how it looked like a dildo, but even that wasn't enough to take the place of my analogs. It didn't take long before I broke the Tesla as well, and I got tired of spending eighty bucks every few weeks on replacement ecigs so I bought an itaste VTR.

The VTR was practically unbreakable, and I still have it to this day, but still not enough. I actually lost it at one time and bought another to replace it. Then I found it, and now I have two itaste VTRs. Still not enough.

Enter my mech mod! A couple of weeks ago a friend of mine turned me on to Fasttech, and when I saw the prices I couldn't help but lunge at the opportunity to spend some more money! I ordered a Sentinel M16 clone and a Zenith v2 RDA. Well as many of you may know Fasttech is in China. The Zenith that I ordered ended up being out of stock, with no expected ship date so I ordered an Infinite Magma clone off ebay, as my M16 mod had already shipped out and I didn't want to sit here staring at it without an RDA.

Now, I'm not a patient man, never have been. My magma came in, looking all kinds of pretty, and shipping still hadn't updated on my M16 clone. So, in my infinite wisdom and whatnot I ebayed myself an hcigar M16 clone in the stainless steel.

So here I sit, vaping cheesecake out of my Infinite Magma clone perched atop my hcigar M16. Holy clouds Batman! I think this is exactly what I have been looking for all these years. The mech mod is a hobby and a habit all rolled into one. The clouds are huge and satisfying, the pull is smooth, and the flavor is unbelievable. There was a time when I thought that a bullet was the only device that might help me quit smoking, but with my mech mod I am hooked, and analogs are out of my life for good.

So there is my introduction and my history with vaping from beginning to present. This tech has come a long way and boy am I glad it did. As a pack and a half menthol smoker I have been destroying my body for a long time, but with this new rig I am confident that I can "kick the ...." for good. No cigarette ever tasted this good, or allowed me to blow out such huge clouds. There is something just too satisfying about lung hitting this badboy and exhaling ridiculous amounts of dense vapor that analogs could never compete with. Plus I got to drop my nic levels to the lowest the store I shop at sells, and the whole setup cost less than a carton of smokes.

So to anyone thinking about buying a mechanical mod, I say DO IT SAFELY! Don't try to go it alone as there is a risk factor involved. Don't use cheap batteries, or batteries that are not rated for the kind of pull that is required. Enlist the help of someone knowledgeable in the area to assist you until you have a really good grasp of what you're doing.

I never wanted to get into coil building as it seems too complicated and way too expensive, but with the high quality clones that are out there these days it's really not that costly, and it's actually not that complicated once you get over your initial shock. And the flavor! To quote a good friend of mine, it's like breathing ice cream...

Thanks for reading my info, and happy vapes to you! Sorry for being so long winded, I'm just too excited to be here...

Hello and welcome to the forum. Glad to have you here!:)

Just an FYI for you.

Before recommending a mechanical mod to anyone, it would be wise to address battery safety, ohms law and amp limitations (or even better yet, provide appropriate links)! There are far too many people jumping into mechanicals and sub-ohming with no idea of what they are doing. The exploding mod at Vape Blast this past weekend comes to mind as does this thread today: New member. Need help with Stingray

Welcome to the boards, filthyhat! Your story is pretty much parallel to mine... I started vaping about 5 years ago, went through almost the exact same gear that you did... I even still have my Tesla! I somehow managed to muddle through and stick with vaping for the past 5 years, and now with my dripper, I leave clouds all over Houston!!

As Susan said, we do try to not recommend mechs to beginners around here... there is a lot of inherent risk and danger to these mods, and without the proper knowledge and background, someone could be seriously hurt. Trust us, once you've seen some of the threads around here, you will fully understand why... mechs can be very dangerous to someone who doesn't know what resistance means, and when you couple that with cheap cloned batteries.... well... bad things happen.

Welcome to the forum, filthyhat! As a mechanical user, I strongly agree with Susan and Kaezziel about anyone just jumping into mechanicals without being fully aware of the risks and know what they are doing. Even folks who do know push the limits. I was at Vape Blast this past weekend where the incident happened. I didn't stay long enough Saturday to witness it, but they had a big safety gathering at the beginning of Sunday and they showed us all what was left of the mod. It's not a pleasant sight to see that. I will discourage anyone from going mechanical until they are experienced in wrapping, know ohm's law, and battery safety and limits. Anyone using mechanicals, please be careful! Anyway, enough of the rant. Enjoy your time here! Anything anyone can do to help, don't hesitate to ask :)

Hey thanks everyone for your words of welcome and support.

I didn't mean to steer anyone on the wrong track with the mechanical mod, I just got mine so I'm a total newbie myself. However, with proper guidance it's obvious that it can be done. If everyone's mech blew up in their face I can't imagine that there would be so many sold. I'm just excited to have gotten into this are of vaping and I guess I got a little over-enthusiastic.

So, I would like to say to anyone thinking about getting a mechanical mod, read up on the subject and get the guidance of someone experienced. Don't think you can just coil your mod down to .01 ohms and vape away! I'm not recommending anyone jump off the deep end without a floatie or a lifeguard.

I have read heaps about counterfeit batteries and such, and have involved the guidance of the local B&M as well as a friend who has been using a mech mod for a while. I hope to continue to use mine without catastrophic consequences.

Howdy to you filthyhat :)

Welcome to the forums. I've only been vaping consistently for about 6 months. Looking forward to checking out your bits of wisdom. Love to hear about folks who've been around the block a few times.... I've learned so much from reading about what others have experienced.

Keep enjoying the vape! :vapor:

I hope it didn't seem like we were bashing you, filthyhat... that was definitely not the intent... for those who use mechs and sub-ohm safely, it can be very enjoyable and satisfying... I'm currently running between .3 and .4 ohms, myself, so I'm not gonna say don't do it... it's awesome that you have some guidance and understanding! There are many who do not... and sadly, a lot of the B&M's are not imparting the correct wisdom before they sell a pipe bomb to a new user... because there are many out there who are not as well informed as you are, I (unfortunately) expect to see many more cases of battery detonation...
And of course, as pwheeler said... if you have any questions or problems, please, do not hesitate to ask... we're all here to try to make our vaping experience better and to help each other to do so! You'd be hard pressed to find a better group of people than those who have gathered here!!

I have edited my initial post in such a way as to minimize my liability for any dangerous builds. Many apologies to anyone who has blown their face off as a result of my former bad advice.

 ROTFLMAO
You're a good dude, man! You're gonna fit in well here!!

Of course you're all right, and I definitely don't want to be responsible for any accidents. Should I remove the part where I tell other people to try it altogether?

I'm just excited!! I really didn't mean any harm but after all you guys posted I realize that I did kind of tell people to go for it without mentioning the danger, and this is the new members are of the forum so it is possible that someone could jump into it based on my advice without knowing what is going on.

Talk about the blind leading the blind!:2cool:

Eh, no worries. There has been a steadily increasing number of posts from inexperienced vapers bragging about their super low ohm builds, or those being sold sub ohm rigs as their very first e-cigarette, and given absolutely no warnings about the dangers. This was all capped off by some idiot blowing up a mod at the Vape Blast last weekend in a crowded room. We're all kind of sensitive because of that and try not to steer new vapers into something dangerous.

Duly noted. You folks have given me a lot to think about, I may just have to do some more reading on the safety concerns myself.

Chris405 I'm from Tahlequah, a little known town in NE OK. We have a lake at one end of town and a river at the other. Sadly not much in between.

I have heard of it, Never passed through it though. When i lived in moore, i worked for dish network and traveled all over the place.
