I don't know why.. but when I pre-fill carts with syringes or the paperclip trick (see intro to vaping video around 17 min in I think?) and I let them sit for a few hours.. they last much longer than if you just top off (4-5X as long!)... also.. puff out the stuffing a little so it is not recessed too far into the cart and it wicks the atomizer better.

This is why I put the drops in, then the filler, then top off with drops.

People talk about getting 11 - 12 drops into a 901 cart but I can get 8 - 10 into a 401 cart.

MAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Just ordered an M-401 from absolutely e-cigs.

I asked a few questions and apparently they have changed the battery operation from 5 second cut off with a 2 minute wait to a 7 second cut off and a 20 second wait.

The guy said that the new chip programming would shorten battery and atomizer life if users hit the thing right up to cutoff and are back on on it in 20 seconds all the time. But he said that negative feedback on the cutoff meant that they decided to make the change anyway.

The new EVO apparently has a battery sourced from a different manufacturer in India to higher capacity specifications (280mAh vs 200 for standard Chinese batteries). But the atomizers and carts are from Smoore of which Absolutely cigs is the factory outlet store.

Also the reason the batteries from the M-401 are better than the DSE series is apparently becasue there is two sub-battery packs inside wired in parallel instead of one in the DSE. This also means a faster charge time and less drop of near the end. I think Evo's Indian batteries have a higher density Li-ion gel

Just a correction to my earlier post.

The people from Absolutely e-cigs. Have indeed changed the cut-off from 5 to 7 seconds and the recovery time from 2 minutes to 20 seconds. They stressed to me however that this has nothing to do with a compromise to the protection of the hardware.

Because of the feedback that the earlier configuration could be improved they did extensive testing to determine the longest draw and shortest possible cutoff time while still protecting the gear.

I am guessing that any good engineer would er on the side of caution when the product is first released and then implement improvements such as this once real use testing can allow optimisation.

.......n I love my evo even more now.

WHAT? Well, if that's true - then I'm kinda annoyed, since the advertised 20 second cutoff was the ONLY reason I ordered a couple pilot kits to begin with. I'm mainly an e-cigar user, and I knew damn well a 2 min timeout would make me crazy. And it does.

I'm wondering how Puresmoker is feeling, having requested special programming for their batteries, only getting part of it, and now having the whole thing programmed in to all the M401 batteries... kinda seems to suck for them...

Well, if Smoore HAS changed it, and from the above report - that appears to be the case, then Steve will have them in his next batch too.

It's just very unfortunate that early adopters of the Pilot get screwed on this deal, since it was a hyped and promised feature.

I can't imagine Steve being really happy about it either, it's a bit of a back-stab, isn't it...

I think there is some confusion.

The new program dictates a cutoff period of 20 seconds after a continuous 7 second draw as opposed to a 2 minute cutoff after a 5 second draw.

This is much better it is nigh impossible to take a continuous 7 second drag with normal use. Remember that the M-401 has an electronic switch which is very sensitive so if you let the light dim even for a split second then you can resume puffing past 7 seconds with no cutoff.

The cutoff is there for a reason, the system needs time to wick e-liquid between drags and the atomizer can overheat without pauses. Also once very hot the atomizer will not draw in e-liquid as well. Imagine that when water hits metal hot enough to vapourise it to steam then it will migrate away from the hot metal. Try this with a frying pan on high and a little water. So if the atomizer overheats then it will also run dry no matter how full the cart is and a dry atomizer will spell doom!

If you are a heavy user then I suggest you drip a little at the end of a long session to make sure a hot atomiser is not left dry.

My new M-401 should arrive tomorrow, YAY!

I think the 7 second draw time is much more important than the 20 second cutoff period, I'd prefer 7sec/2min over 5sec/20sec (not that that exists). However while I agree that it is nign impossible to take a continuous 7 second drag with normal use (which I think is much more likely with a 5 second drag), it is very possible to hit the 7 seconds when you are in your car with the windows down and the switch sticks after you vape... it's very annoying to wait 2 minutes after that happens, but I'm undecided if 20 secs would be better because it sometimes gets VERY HOT and is probably best for the atomizer...

there is a new M401 based e-cig coming out soon that currently definitely has a 7 second drag, 20 second shut down..........but they are 99.9% sure that this will be changed to 7 second drag, 10 second shut down

not gonna mention at this time who is going to be selling it just in case it turns out to be porky pies!

Yes, I've have had mine for a month now. I have no regrets purchasing this model (Thanks to Terriphone's great reviews!). Mine hits like a freight train, Love It!
After 4 weeks now, I have hammered out all of the problems that I've had with it. I know it so well, when it doesn't perform up to snuff... I know exactly what to do to solve the problem. When you have trouble with it, don't give up on it. Do searches on previous threads, and you will find resolutions to an array of problem solving issues.

This week I finally figured out the very best way to re-stuff the M401 cartridge. My method works absolutely fabulous. I was so exited, I felt like I re-discovered Penicillin! (LOL). I have made a thread, and posted this technique. Quite easy and very effective.
