The pharmacist gave me some menthol crystals. They're Humco brand, it says they're used for compounding. There are warnings on the bottle though that say "in case of accidental ingestion" contact poison control center and to seek fresh air in case of accidental inhalation. Now I'm assuming they're referring to eating the crystals or inhaling straight from the container and the likes. Just wanted to make sure this was the right stuff.

I also ordered Paddock PG 16oz. for 12.99. She couldn't tell me if this was USP or food grade but I think I saw that this brand was the right one?

I'm smoking analogs until I can get this menthol thing concocted. I was just going to add a shard or two to taste to the VG/e-juice I've already mixed. I really don't like the taste of the VG mixed with MVS's menthol. No menthol taste to speak of and it almost tastes soapy. (I did get the correct VG, 100% pure, food grade, says it can be used as a sweetener on the bottle).

Lorraine, I looked up Humco menthol crystals, and it turns out they are USP grade. In fact, they don't even sell to consumers, but only directly to pharmacies.

I think it's safe to conclude it would be fine to use.

The warnings make sense, because menthol is extremely strong stuff, and would be an irritant or worse if inhaled straight or ingested, like you thought.

I do use menthol crystals with no problems at all, but I agree with others here posting about their strength - a little bit goes a long way. You can always add more, but you don't want to start out with a huge quantity. Just a shard in a 10ml bottle might be a good place to start.

Thanks so much. I probably had 50ml of liquid. I probably added 6 shards and I can feel the menthol in my lungs but it still doesn't have that "cool" taste to me initially. I'm kind of afraid to add anymore, don't want to burn my lungs....lol. I was going to just order Pure Menthol from PS but they are ALWAYS out of stock. I might add a drop or two of peppermint extract that I have here. I know it has oil in it but would a drop or two really hurt anything in that much liquid?

Personally, I don't think a few drops of an oil mixed in with liquid would hurt your atomizers, although straight oil or a huge percentage proabably would. The reason I think a small amount shouldn't hurt is that if you look at the ingredients lists made available by some of the liquid manufacturors, there are some oils usually listed in small quantities.

Thanks. I really thought for as many menthol crystals as I used, I'd have a really strong menthol taste. I'm going to pick up PG today, I ordered it at the drugstore. I'm thinking it may be the VG taste that I can't get past. I don't know if it's that or not but everything ends up tasting the same, almost a soapy taste...yuck. It's a mix of 1/2 menthol liquid from MVS, 1/2 VG and the menthol crystals. I added maybe 6 shards to about 50ml of liquid. Should I try adding more or a touch of peppermint?

Thanks, I was checking that out last night. I have all these crystals so I'm thinking I may make a small bottle of concentrated menthol drops by melting shards in PG. I wish PS would get theirs back in. I'd order one just to have something to compare to....
