Hunting for extremely cheap vaporizer

Greetings folks!

I stumbled on ECF while I was hunting about for more information on vaporizers, so as to help a local friend handle his questions, after some dealings with an unsavory shop with a habit of saying lies about things. (Two off the top of my head would be 'Oh, these e-cig's with our logo on them? Yeah, those are genuine Ego's. .. What type? Ego, they don't make any other models, duh.', and 'Look, since there's no smoke, they're perfectly safe and non-addictive, even with a 24mg nicotine level.')
So yeah, here I am, because ECF helped me find answers to a -lot- of their questions! Thanks folks on that. :)

Now though, I have to also grumble at you folks. You've reignited a curiosity I've had since I was in my early teens about smoking, or more, my hunt for a safer alternative. I've been looking off and on for a method for a long while, and it looks like I've now found one. (One good point for that local shop was the ability to try a single sample on one of the ego-clones there.)
Now, I've -never- smoked anything, of any sort, and using that vaporizer a week ago with some no-nicotine blend was the closest so far. And I really, really liked it. I'm sure I may get advised both directions (to start because it's fairly safe, to not start because we don't know what unfound risks there are), but I'm definitely going to be picking up a vaporizer.. .. maybe two.. maybe more. ^-^ Depends entirely on the amount of funds I can get towards this over the next few months.

My question is on the vaporizers. Namely, Ego Twist clones and Vision Spinner Clones. (which I may be under the false impression is already a clone of the Ego Twist?)
Through this forum, I found myself pointed over at fasttech.com's stuff, but I'm curious on what sort of quality control can I expect? I know this may sound sad, but for me, a $20 purchase is actually a 'big investment'. That'd be for a 1100mah Variable Voltage + CE5 clearomizer/tank.. little less than that, but still. I don't mind at all waiting 30-40 days for things to arrive, I just have a need of having it work.. and since any funds I drop in is hard gotten, I can't really afford to keep replacing it on a regular basis.
My -absolute- upper spending limit though is $30. Any more, and I can't really afford to get any liquids.

Does anyone have suggestions on other specific places and models I should give a look at, to pick up something that has (A) 900+ mah variable voltage battery, and (B) a repairable tank+atomizer, in that price range, and still is cylindrical? (To forestall urgings to grab a used MVP. They're just.. I don't like the look at all, for me. ^_^) For that matter, that has at least a few day warranty, so I can be reasonably sure that what I put money out for will actually work? :)
Perhaps any specific folks in the vendor forums I should be checking out?

Anyhow, thanks for the time folks!

I would get an Evod. Either that or a Smoktech Ego battery. They are both regulated at 3.7v. 650-900mah batteries should be fine.

I don't think you really need variable voltage for what you are doing, but regulated voltage is nice as it gives a consistent vaping experience. The Evod standard resistance clearomizer (2.5 ohm) is matched up for the battery votltage to get an acceptable experience.
I've had situations where unregulated batteries "cook" the juice and don't deliver the best flavor. Most Ego clones are unregulated batteries and they start out at 4.2 volts and drop off to 3.2.

The Ego twists and Vision spinners are variable voltage but in my experience they are not as nice as a simple Ego. The extra mechanical parts to twist up the voltage take up space in the tube and add weight. And the voltage settings have their limitations due to the nature of the batteries and electronics used in these things (if you want real higher power you're going to have to use a bigger-battery mod- low resistance atomizers are not a good idea with Ego batteries).

I would skip Fasttech if you don't have money to risk, and go for some place like Madvapes.com or any other vendor that's popular here.

I didn't think about the fact that the resistance would be matched to voltage. So much to learn!
I also didn't think about how unregulated would work. The main reason I was hunting the variable voltage was simply because of the impression I was given that it could quite noticeably change the flavor of things, depending on the amount of power you put through.. and I do like having some options to fine tune.
.. That said, going as low cost as I am, I should probably go feature-lite and more for a consistant quality, 'eh? ;)
I'll definitely start looking at them. Are the Evod clearomizer's repairable?

If your max budget is $30, for a battery, top, and juice, and then charger, you may have difficulty staying in that range. But, I could be wrong.

Fasttech, in my experience of ego style batteries, the type you are wanting, is mixed at best. The best clone I had from them lasted me a little over a month. I am a fairly heavy vapor, so they were used everyday and charged 2X a day. These were 900-1100 mAh batteries.

I would look at the following:

Tops: These are the cheapest yet decent tops I can find. They are disposable or have non-replaceable coils. Each top lasts a week to a month, depending on the juice you use (some juices burn coils quicker like tobaccos and chocolate flavors). https://www.fasttech.com/p/1392700 $11.84

Battery: Look at this ego battery that is 2200 mAh and will last 1-2 days between charges. The battery itself should last 3-4 months if not longer. $17.99

Ego 2200mAh 3 7V Mega Battery 1 Week Charge USA Seller Free SHIP | eBay

Then you need a way to charge the battery, so you need this: $2.47

http://www.fasttech.com/products/0/10003751/1270407-usb-charger-for-ego-electronic-cigarette

That total comes to $32.30 - all ship for free with no taxes

Then all you would need is some juice. There is a PIF thread where people give away or pay-it-forward to those in need. You can check there for available bottles, if you need to:

Any device, especially cheaply made in China ones, can have their moments when it comes to quality control(lack of). That's the price we pay for cheap. Just starting out I would say pick up a couple of these and some liquid, a good start and you can find your way on from there. They are 650 mah, VV batteries, but cheap enough to get an extra or two so you'll have plenty of capacity/backups. EVOD 650mAh Variable Voltage Blister Pack Starter Kit - MyFreedomSmokes.com

Also might want to get some replacement coil heads right away. Kanger EVOD Coil Replacement Heads (5pk) - MyFreedomSmokes.com

Somewhere out there
DesertVapes Electronic Cigarettes and Supply

Take a look here, some of the best stateside prices I've found. I've ordered several times from them. Always fast, accurate, good customer service and very dependable.

DesertVapes is a good suggestion. I've had very good luck with their Ego-C batteries.

With the OP's budget constraints, I'd suggest getting a fixed voltage 3.7V Ego or Kanger Evod battery. The only "trick" to getting a good vape from a 3.7V battery compared to VV, is finding the right resistance for your coil head, something in the range from 1.8 to 2.2 should work out depending on your liquid and personal preferences.

Or another option, you could email VapeDojo and find out when they'll get more of these kits Katana Kit in stock.

I've had bad luck with CEx clearomizers. Instead, Evods, T3s, iclear16 clearos work fine, those all have replaceable coil heads.

Most of my everyday gear came from Fasttech, but the really cheap ego style batteries from FT and the like didn't hold up well at all. They stopped either stopped holding a charge after 3 or 4 months or the switch broke. If something at FT has a lot of good reviews or says "authentic" with a brand name, it's usually a safe buy.

Yeah, I know that's gonna be difficult. It's worth getting pointed in the right direction though. :)

Mmm. I had been looking specifically at those the other day. Awesome. :)

I don't quite think I need -that- much battery power. I carry a number of electronics, and am used to charging everything every 6-24 hours, and carry a portable charger. That much battery almost seems like overkill. :) Still, that's a nice idea.

Thanks very much for the links and the research though. That's very helpful. :)

Also, thank you everyone for being pointed towards places, and very specific spots at that. Definitely thinking much more about the EVOD stuff now, quite a bit more than before. So many viable ideas at good ideas, at least to get me started.
Best part is if I decide that this 'isn't for me'.. I can give the stuff away to one of a few friends to set them up. All goods! :)

SO HERE IS THE MILLION DOLLAR QUESTION you posted you never smoked???!! anythihg? why start now?

Well.. I've been fascinated with smoking since I was very, very young. I understood however how bad it was for me even then. So off and on, I've been inquiring and looking at ways I could go about it, without doing (much) harm to myself. When I last gave it a close look, e-cig's had pretty much just come out, custom liquid refills weren't an option, so it was still all about the nicotine, they were terribly unreliable, and extremely expensive.

Now, things are quite a bit less costly, and things are quite customizable, and most importantly.. zero nicotine options are available! :)

It's entirely possible that this is just a fascination I need to get out of my system, in which case, a low cost evod/ego setup is even more ideal, and I can just give away the vaporizer and the liquids to friends trying to quit real cig's. And if it's not just a passing thing, not a case of 'Okay, goal achieved, now I'm done'.. then lets hear it for having the most healthy of ways to indulge it. Will I regard it as perfectly safe? Not without studies, no. But I'm not too terribly worried, especially if I don't go nuts with it. :)
.. .. Not that aaanyone introduced to vaping ever goes nuts about it. Nope. Not at all. ;)
