I don't see why we have to get a new tornado warning every half hour. That weather radio buzzer is driving me nuts! Why can't they just say 'Tornado warning in effect until further notice'?
I was getting them every 30 minutes for 2 days during Harvey. I napped when I could, but still. I just kept the volumn on the tv lower, & my thumb on the button. We never lost power, phones, or net this time. There was a tremendous amount of upgrading of everything after Ike. Most were w/o power for 2 weeks, & many for 3 or 4 weeks.

Everglade City, storm surge, according to the FB post.
It was posted about 45 minutes ago.

I've been searching trying to find info regarding Chokoloskee Island. That is as close as I've found so far.
I have a nephew who lives there. He's not there now, he is a fishing guide off season (FL), so he's in Alaska right now.
A neighbor of his stayed.:nun:

That is a darn shame that people stoop so low.:grr:

On the other hand I'm mighty glad that Irma is weakening,I'm just as happy to leave the bragging rights to someone else.:)
Winds are picking up and those old grandpa oaks are shedding...yuk.
We still have all the amenities.:)

I've been watching a live feed of Irma going through Naples. The eye just went through, and now they will get the backside and the storm surge.

It's amazing and scary to watch. So tell me why everybody gets evacuated, and then they send these weather correspondents out into the big middle of it. Yeah, I know. Sensationalism and money, but, really? Reporting live from a balcony in blinding rain and 130 MPH winds. Really? I kept expecting the wind to whoosh the guy into space. Or get hit by a flying tree or something.

It has happened. On the scene reporters have been injured, in the past, by flying debris. I'm actually glad they do the coverage they do. I'm sure they're paid well, but they do a great job.
But keep in mind, they have a support crew, that the average resident may not have. It's not just a matter of one guy reporting, and a camera man. They have plenty of fuel, to get where they're going, advance people to scope out hotel rooms, and spots they can report from with relative safety.

yeah,, our home was 5 houses from the community dock. the debris was interesting. we got 3 docks from ????,, a few neighbors porches,,,,furniture from somewhere,, we suspect Galveston. after about a year our neighbor finally found his boat about a mile a way stuck under a small bridge... he just happen to notice the paint while going over the bridge.

Katya I sah the video of one group robbing a shoe store in Miami, absolutely disgusting. My son won't allow weapons in the house not even play guns.
there are always baseball bats and golf clubs by the door and a very large scary looking doberman we hold back by the collar when we open the door these day's.Funny thing is my little chiweenie is far more feisty and dangerous then the dobie will ever be.

the saddest thing/death we had was an old man who snapped. our community didn't get FEMA,, as we watched the surrounding communities get trailers.....they were exactly as close as us to the water...so that argument wouldn't stick. anyway,, after IKE,, people are digging themselves out,, feeling like they are getting somewhere and the rains returned. some contractor parked his backhoe in a ditch for the weekend......well it clogged up the water flow and re-flooded the old man's house again. he couldn't take it (we dont think he knew how he got flooded) he went out on his front porch and put a bullet through his head. a real shame.. i blame the contractor and fema for his death.

I'm not a violent person, Really. I abhor violence. But sometimes... dear Lord... We see the same crap here in CA. Every time a disaster strikes--floods, mudslides, earthquakes--the looting follows almost immediately.

On the other hand, you also see the best of humanity--strangers helping strangers, risking their own lives to save people and animals.

I'm in Lakeland and the wind is def picking up here. The east side of the eye is going to hit us at between 11:30-1. People are posting on FB that they are loosing electric all around us and thank God so far we still have power. It's a cat 2 right now and they expected it to be a 3 if not 4 by the time it's hits us. Hopefully it's gonna be a 1 by the time it hits us.

Hope everybody stays safe. Just hunker down for the night and wish for the best. I know I've had to up my nic level so I e grabbed a couple of my higher nic diy juices to keep me from chain vaping. We have all been through this before and Floridians are a different bread to get through this, we did in 2004 with 3 of them hitting us back to back. Good luck and may God be with all of us throughout the end of Irma.
