Please folk - if you've never been
through a hurricane, don't take this lightly. We had the odd distinction of dealing with Hurricane Ike's left over winds a couple of years ago - yes, in KY! I lost the siding off one side off my house and our power. Some areas here were without power for 5 days due to trees on power lines.
Thank goodness for the advanced warning and I have you all in my prayers for your safety.
Ike hit my house dead on. So did Rita. I sat and watched tornados spawned off Ike tear up electrical lines, and watched the tress blowing. So sorry that it got you too. We were only without elec for a little over a week with Ike though. he was MUCh nicer than RIta.
That hussy took out the lights for over 3 weeks, and it was a crew from Iowa that actually physically hooked us back up! God Bless them.
Tuck, My cousin lives in Slidell- Katrina got her, and she came down here for a few weeks (Like everyone else that Katrina got) and Rita got her. LOL (Rita was actually a bigger and more destructive hurricane that Katrina, But not as many lives were lost)
I am praying for all of y'all- Its a scary thought to know you might loose your house and everything you own. Its easy to say "walk away" but when you have never lost it all to start with, OR had to face the chance of loosing it, you dont realize just how hard it is.
Since we lost our house to fire we have been told to evacuate our new house 3 times. 2 for hurricanes and once for fire. It never gets easier. And I dont have anything. LOL The first hurricane we DID leave- we were living in a travel trailer so we packed up the truck and hauled ....- (left the trailer)- 48 hours later and broke as could be, we snuck back in. With Ike I went to my MIl's house, (I live in a trailer), and with the fires I got the kids to MIL's and came back to help incase the fire came this far.
whats sad is, folks down here are actually starting to pray for a cat 1 or 2 hurricanne, just for the rain it will bring. These fires are never ending.
