I am afraid one of my electric hookah-doodles may have perished. Can it be resuscitated?

Dear Lolady, what does the sticker on your rodent read?

Does it say OUTPUT: 5V 1000 mA? 5V 2000 mA?

Both should work, I would think. This PT has a battery. (Unless there's some unique thing about this V4L that requires high amps on 3.7 battery PTs... you could ask customer service when you do the warranty return.) Most battery driven PT's just trickle charge the battery with the USB connection. People use them on their USB all the time (I still like to use wall warts, but that's me). They draw less than 500 ma for the trickle charge.

Unless you know something about this model... (See the MV quote above). She's using the V4L AC adapter.

EDIT to avoid confusion... Dear Lolady... Listen to Atty! He knows.

Thanks, Atty.

The recommendation is 5V 2.0 amp (2000 mA) for the 5v no-battery PT's in general. The others.............500 ma sb OK.

You don't have to apologize.... It's a common thing... many quote 2000 mA for all PT's. Not correct, but prolly won't hurt. IDK what's unique about the V4L ones tho that MV had that warning.

Interesting... You learn something every day!

Seems to me that all the explanations suggesting inadequate mA don't cut it. After all, this was a hookah-doodle that lived a long enough life to deliver its happy (if confused) little old owner some weeks of vapor. An under-powered wall wart would fail from the get-go if the PT were battery-less (been there...). If it's a battery PT, I think it's a non-issue.

The center post is the little metal circle inside the connector where you screw on the carto.

I don't think it has one of those. It just has a little hole.

...Is it still under warranty? Send it back

I have no idea. They are a very nice company, I'm sure they would send another one if I called them up, but it's not that simple.

First I would have to tell my friend who gave me the basket of things, and she would be completely mortified, and feel so bad about it, and the amount she would have to pay to send it back, which she would insist on doing, would be as much or more as a new one costs, and then I would have to tell Mr lolady about it, and he would feel sad. To take it back to her, neither of us would feel right just having him leave it there, so we'd both have to go, at a time when she's there, which would be an Outing, but they both know that Outings are a little bit too much for me, so they would both feel bad about THAT. Then the workers who had to wrap it up to send it back would have to be told, and they would feel sad, etc etc so I know it was the right choice to just send off for a new one.

I sent for 2, they should be here next week. It's the same company where I got the little wireless ones, they are so cute and mini!

And they still work even though when I was decorating them nail polish accidentally fell down in all around the pushybutton.

They only come with white jewel lights on the end, but especially once they're all decorated, the white light ends up looking really pretty!

When you puff them it looks like you are sipping delicately on a jeweled fashion accessory for no apparent reason!

I'm getting one of those to decorate and give Smart Shaman with a zero nicotine cartomizer in it so she can show her other patients who smoke the wonder that awaits them if they will change over!

You are all so good to let me wail and grieve, and the part about the soldering iron made me laugh harder than I have in days!

Thank You!

And thanks for telling me about unplugging the whole power strip from now on, before taking the hookah-doodle out of its Special Wall Rodent. I already put a post-it AND put it in a text file so I'll remember.

Maybe when some time has passed, the new ones have come, and are decorated, I'll be able to come up with a way to repurpose the departed one.

The V4L passthru does not have a battery, it's a 5 volt. Many people a few months ago were complaining about them dying prematurely from quite a few vendors. It sounded like a bad batch was making the rounds. I have 3 purchased last Nov/Dec still working although they haven't been in use as much since I got my REO. I did have a wallwart die though. Try another wallwart or wait for a sale and get another. I got one PT from V4L for a little over $12 in a sale. I have a v2cig one as well and it is identical to the V4L one in every detail except the logo on the side. You can buy 3 v4l ones and get them shipped immediately for the price of the V2cig one and waiting forever. Sorry about your hookah-doodle problems. If you can't afford one, PM me and I'll send you one of mine.

That is how I'm going to trying to look at it. There's a Rainbow Bridge-adjacent structure somewhere, especially for the spirits of late lamented electric hookah-doodles, and it's there and happily puffing without needing a Special Wall Rodent at all!

Could this be a battery issue? Is the white one also a battery PT? If so, try putting the battery from the white one into the one not working; this would at least eliminate that possibility if it is still not working with the battery change.

Oh my goodness!

I don't even know if such a thing would be technically possible, but whether it is or not, I can assure you that it is not the kind of thing that would be metaphysically possible for me to even conceive of doing in this incarnation or the next several!

You probably will not believe this, but I am quite literally going to dab some rosewater on my temples now.

Sorry for generating any confusion, I was thinking that this was a different type of hookah doodle PT. Just looked at the website and this one doesn't seem to have a removable battery like some others.

I've never hear that you have to unplug everything 1st. That's a new one.............hmm.

Sorry to hear about the PT return. Also sorry that you won't be taking advantage of the interment services. I was going to make a lot of $$ on that one. lol.

The thing with the hole in the exact center of the connector (on the PT) IS the center post. It has a little rubber gasket around it as an insulator, and then the threads are around that. Sometimes they get pushed in. Sometimes PTs just die. And if they break their legs badly, you have to shoot them.

Glad to offer you some laughter, as you have provided many guffaws to the ECF-gang. I did note the soldering could be done by others, but I'm glad that you decided to purchase a ?replacement? hookah-doodle.

Best of luck.

Bless you for that! How good you are! But I have already been so generously benefacted, here and offline, I have 3 Special Wall Rodents, each of which is that 5 and 2 kind that will run an electric hookah doodle, and they are all working, with their little lights on, I tested the white pushybutton one, and I even took the one (with no pushybutton) that's being decorated out of its Beautification Repose Area and checked to make sure it worked in all 3, which it does.

So even I feel confident that the problem is not with the Special Wall Rodents themselves.

Please hang onto your extra Rodent, and give it to someone who has none at all. Since you offered it to me, that means when you do, I'll get sprinkled with some of the magic too! :)

OK, what threw me is the description "THE ULTIMATE USB MANUAL BATTERY PASSTHRU". Also, the others they have say 5.x volts in the description. This one has little/no description. So I assumed battery. Plus, sounded like her wall wart was < 2000 amps. So... Hmmmm.

Now we know she has a "5 and 2" kind, and it's 5 volts. Man. All that wasted typing too. lol. I have seen cig-sized battery driven PTs. So.... oh well. The amps discussion still applies, but it sounds like she's set (good news).

Me, either, but that is what the person said, so now I will feel nervous if I don't.

We may call you when the memorial service time comes. Do you come with a violinist, or will you be able to sing with one of ours?

a little rubber gasket ...

I think this one's rubber gasket may be just the spiritual kind. It is not visually perceptible to me in the 10X magnifying mirror.

if they break their legs badly, you have to shoot them. ...

I would do no such thing. If that happens, I'll get them a little rolly cart. Or make them one out of a Marlboro pack and cartomizers who have thrilled to their last refill.

I did note the soldering could be done by others...

You did, and Mr lolady and I will both be delighted to meet those others when the happy day arrives.

Oh and thanks also to the people who told of the bad batch. Even as I'm sad for the other people who got them, it's a relief to know it's probably not something I did.

Please accept my sincerest condolences.:(

Thank you, yago! And see? This place is not like other internet communities. Not only do we get smoking cessation support, we even get Equipment Bereavement Crisis Counseling!

I really do feel better now. And it's not just because of the rosewater.
