I have been vaping for 17 days now.(pervious pad+ smoker) It is going well. I have had a couple of "freak out" moments, but over all good.

The thing thats has been bothering me lately is a feeling that I have forgotten something. Every time I leave the house or get up from my desk I get the feeling. It is unsettling to say the least. I look around, check my pockets, and still draw a blank on what is missing.

Then it hits me. I do not have a lighter and 2 packs of analogs in my pocket.

I have gone back to carrying a lighter everywhere and that helps.

Anyone else have that feeling?

Just thought I would share.

When I smoked, I always carried a small bic lighter in my right front pocket. Everywhere, all the time, every day.

When I started vaping and quit smoking 3 days later, I still carried the lighter. Then after about 10 days, when I knew I could really get through the day without smoking, I finally quit carrying the lighter. It was like a security blanket and I missed it at first.

So, yes, I understand.

LOLL me too. For the 1st 4 months was always looking for ashtray and lighter whenever I went to sit at my desk. Also got that "cold sweat" when I went out without my analogs. Six months after I quit smoking my wife, one day, asked me where the dirty ashtray was...my addiction also impacted her. Funny thing is a few weeks ago at the cottage I needed a lighter and couldn't find one...eventually found an old Bic in my travel bag.

CONGRATS on 17 Days

In those first few weeks it wasn't the lighter. It was the apprehension of leaving the house with just my PV and no cigarettes at all. For the first 10 days or so I still brought cigarettes with me, though I never smoked them when out and about. Next was the anxiety of just leaving without them altogether. Once I survived that I started to relax and lost that panic we all had about needing to have 2 packs and 3 working lighters - and knowing where all the 24 hour stores were located - just in case. I continued to smoke during my first 90 days of vaping, but very little and never outside the house. No real plan - it just worked out that way.

I must have over two dozen lighters on hand. Disposables, butanes, Zippos... Can't remember the last time I flicked any of them.

This post is great and made me laugh. I have been vaping for about 5 or 6 months now (really try not to think about time), and a few nights ago I was scrounging around trying to find a lighter or matches to light some bug candles outside. I actually thought to myself that this is a nice problem to have considering that I always knew where at least 2 lighters were at any given time!

I hear you about caring a pack of cigarettes. The first week I carried my "last pack" that had 4 analogs in it.

They got so beat up and broken I final threw them out. Now I still have a little "range anxiety". I worry that I will have a dead battery or run out of juice.

But as I am getting to know my setup better I am feeling better about leaving the house with out the "whole kit".

I still carry a lighter with me because: 1) to light any smoker around me who forgot their lighter and then when lit, I vape with them showing them my new toy and when they inquire about it and then I drop knowledge. A conversational piece per say to help me ease my transition to be still one of them (socially). 2) To open beer bottles when an opener isn't around. 3) At times...I just want to light ignorant people who make smartass remarks about my vaping.

Nothing wrong with caring a lighter. I have been an on and off smoker but my dad said always carry a lighter, pocket knife and small light????
I can't break that habit. I don't miss packing big dog t cigars in my pocket or my cigar saver. I was a 2-4 cigar a day inhaler. I do not leave with out my PV. Keep the lighter and when you light up someone else s analog you can remember why you left it. Maybe even convert someone. I got to remember a spare battery though.
Your doing good.

Well said, sir. i completely agree- Although I was never able to carry a pack of smokes without using them, I always, always have a lighter on me. With my job, I had to get used to being around other smokers at bars and nightclubs (I'm a dj by trade), and so I now have a serious attachment to my PV's. I carry backups with me everywhere I go, and that always helps put me at ease! Also, carrying a lighter is a great way to meet new people/socialize/etc..., if that's something you like doing!

A caveat: Be very careful wandering into smoking sections in the beginning, it is harder to do than it seems-but you get used to being the only person who smells nice. :)

I'm actually glad this thread came up... I always carry a SAK if not my Leatherman. Up until I started vaping I always had at least 1 lighter with me. Think I'm going to go back to throwing one in my pocket (or maybe just my ferro-rod) with my knife. Geesh, what would Les Stroud think lol!
