If you want to stay with an ego type battery, just make sure to only use the charger it comes with and only charge it when you are awake and around to react if something happens. All the problems involving ego-type batteries (there haven't been that many considering how many of these are out there!) that I have read about involve being on the charger and giving a weird noise/smoke warning before disaster or being on a charger it did not come with.

Are you looking for only the ego-style batteries, or will similar 510-threaded batteries (aka kgo, Riva, etc) work for you?

The ego style is typically a protected battery in that it tends to be a very specific voltage, whereas Rivas/kgos tend to be slightly variable. The Riva, in my experience, provides a slightly warmer vapor and slightly enhances the flavors, too. Both options work just fine, though.

I haven't had problems with any of the ego-type batteries at all, no matter what make they are -- but I'll second the person who recommended making sure you only use a charger designed for an ego-style battery, and making sure you charge while you're awake. While it's incredibly unlikely that you'll have any problems, it's better to be safe than sorry.

Any more you will find everything from the eGo to the what-the-hellGo, so eGo really only means the type of connection at the top of the battery. There are good ones and not so good ones to choose from. There are some, like the Joye eGo, that are regulated at 3.4v, and there are some, like the kgo, that are 3.7v. There are even some that you can select the voltage.

Bottom line ... first decide what you want, then look for the "Go" that does that.

IMO, if your looking for eGo type batts, spend the extra couple dollars and only get genuine Joye Ego batt. I've bought some clone joye ego batts and have been dissapointed. I even bought a few SmokeTek Ego batts, and they didn't work to well. Smoke tech makes a great product over all but was disspointed in thier ego batts. Thier 5 click protection didn't work too well. Sometimes it would 'protect' after 3 clicks, and almost always took me forever to turn the unit back on. one time took me 10 minutes of clicking... geeze... myfreedomesmokes sells genuine joye ego. And like other users have said, only use the 450mah charger made for the ego.. Other chargers can damage the batt, and cause issues.
