This is a question I asked my Dr.
I smoked as a teenager, gave it up when I turned legal age (go figure). Years later I would once in a
while pick up a pack of little cigars and that would last a month or so. When my back thing happened the neurosurgeon explained
that any smoking would make the disc degeneration worse. So I quit. By God's grace I have been 100% smoke free for almost 10
years.

The sad/stupid thing is I sill miss it. This whole chronic pain / unable to work/ fighting disability thing has got me pretty
stressed most of the time. My weight got up to 210 so I am trying to eat better and be a little more active. If I am very
active one day it hurts so bad the next I can't get out of bed.

Anyhow as you have no doubt heard personal vaporizers (electronic cigarettes) are now on the market.
You can get them with out nicotine.
Every fiber of my being desperately want to try one and see if i get the stress relief / appetite suppression and the other
"positives" I got from smoking.

I understand the FDA is down on them (mainly I suspect because they want there tax money). I understand that smokeless does not
equal harmless. The thing is nothing is harmless. All the Rx's I'm on have pages of warnings, food can kill you and driving is
more likely to kill then skydiving.

Propylene glycol ,the main ingredient in vapor fluid, is FDA approved for IV use and use in many medicines and food products.

I understand there is a lot we don't know right now. They haven't been tested and studied much in this country. But I do know
the situation I am in really sucks right now and I think the risk would be worth it.

I put a lot of stock in your medical advice. Every other Dr. I have been to lectures me on the evils of red meat, high fructose
corn syrup and wants to send me to AA if I have a drink a couple nights a week. You are not like that, therefore I value you
advice heavily.

Well I have wasted enough of your time, but I would like your honest opinion. I understand the best case scenario would be I
leave them alone. But in the best case scenario I would not have chronic pain, 5 or 6 active Rx's and I would be able to work.
Right now I am so far from the best case scenario that the light form the best case scenario won't get to me for 100 years. So
I would like your practical real world advice.

What did he say?
stay tuned

This is my Dr.'s response
Obviously you have researched this issue well.
I really don't have any other "behind the scenes" information to give you that
you don't already have. Definitely these would be expected to be safer than actual cigarettes. As you stated, doing absolutely
nothing would also be better than trying the electronic cigarettes. The glycol has some hint of concern but at this point
evidence is quite limited. This is the same chemical that I use in the fog machine I bought for my kids to play with at
Halloween. So I think that would indicate that at this time, I am really not that concerned. Again, I think you are better
informed then most and if you want to give it a try, go ahead. If there is any benefit, it would appear that that benefit would
outweigh the minimal risk associated with these products.
(
bold mine)
I love that guy

Welcome to ECF Basil and Stranger! :)
Stranger 1, It seems you are looking for a way to relieve stress. And you are missing smoking. Since you are not a kid, and did the research, I think you can make your own choices.
I would suggest a no Nic liquid in a 510 or 901. remember that by using an e-cig you will recreating the hand to mouth which is just as addictive as the nic! I have been told there are traces of nic are in most 0 nic liquids. You could make your own though.
Any time you want to talk about your back, come down to Wrecked and Bonkers, you will find others that have similier problems and are good listeners. Click on the hyperlink below my name.

Stranger 2, That post eluded me? You answered yourself?

Basil, I thought E-cigs were banned in your area of the World!

I missed smoking too. :( I like the look, feel, taste, hand to mouth, etc. of smoking. Thats why I am using the e-cig now. I can vape without all the harmful things, that come with real cigarettes. I like the habit myself. :D I always thought cigarettes smelled good, not bad like people claim. I like to blow out clouds of smoke and be enveloped in it. I always thought movie stars who smoked looked sexy and smart. I read somewhere on here that smokers are smarter. Sooo... I must be a genius by now !!! I think if you are puffing, then your not eating. So I say give it a try. Just don't smoke real cigarettes for goodness sakes! Now I have a full lighter for hubby to light charcoal grill. Ha

Hiya, thanks for the welcome. I got mine in Dubai - they're openly on sale there. Seem to remember a minor cuffufle in the local rag about 2 years ago, but I think that they're legal.

In any case, I intend to continue with them - they are the best thing since sliced bread :D

I have been 100% smoke free for almost 10 years.

If I were a retailer of PVs, I would not sell to you. There is a code of ethics that reputable and prudent suppliers abide by.

If I were your Doctor, I would be concerned you will start using nicotine in your juice because--that is what ex smokers do.

Ask various suppliers. They do not wish to sell these products to non smokers, and you just defined a non smoker above.

Good Luck...
