Do an 8 wrap. 28Gauge. 1/16. 1 ohm. cotton.

You'll end up at 7-8 wraps anyway.. may as well go there right away..

I've been calling this config the "noob coil", but as well as where I started, it's also where I came back to, after trying a LOT of different configs. It really is a sweet spot
It needs a new name.
The "C 1-8-16-28" ? no..

um..
The "sweet" coil ?

Your probably right about that being where I end up.

I am hesitant to go the cotton route, granted I have only tried it once, but it tasted of moldy socks / mushrooms quite bad, and never really cleared up, I am sure the source of my cotton, and lack of boiling it was what gave me that result though, and will probably play with it more soon.

At the end of the day though, I have never felt I could really "taste" silica, and I quite like its durability.

Re-Coiled at about 1.1-1.2 ohms, same style coil, snipped my wick tails nice and short, opened up the airhole on the RM2 just a touch, it is vaping nicely.

With the combo of shorter wicks, lower ohms, and higher airflow, I am having to squonk a little more often then my previous build, but I am enjoying the vape more.

Think I need to open up the airflow just a little more even, and maybe loosen up the wick inside my coil a little bit.

Maybe I am an odd duck, but I like a coil that snaps crackles and pops, which just doesn't happen that much when the coil is packed to the brim with wick, IME.

I wouldn't say it is necessarily super loose, but when I vape it, sometimes my hand will shift the door up or down a little bit depending on how I am holding it.

More then anything its just the "feeling" of it being slightly free, if I could make it "feel" just a little tighter it would be nice.

I like the idea of a cozy wrap thing, but this REO is to beautiful to cover up :)

I put a strip of dense foam rubber in the window and it takes all the door play out and makes squonking easier.

Can you elaborate on this a little more? Maybe post a couple more close up pics?

Is it like a strip of rubber laying over the bottle and battery?

Seems like it would have to be super thin or am I missing something?

Some people like to move the door up and down "schlick, schlick, schlick". I hear it annoys others :D

And some people take a piece of tape, like electrical tape? and wrap it around the battery to make a tab to remove the batteries more easily, which also kind of buffs up against the door so it isn't as loose.

Carefully bend the door slightly to tighten it up.

That makes me a little nervous, but I will keep that in mind as a possible option.

In other news...

I put a clear plastic drip tip on, and it lets enough light down into the atty that I can actually see my squonking results without even pulling off the drip tip, that is handy.

There's a bunch of space so that's why I used a thick piece of foam rubber. I started with a piece that took up the whole window but then couldn't see fluid level so I cut it to be more of a strip and it squonks better because the pressure is more focused.

It just slips in for a slight pressure fit that you can see impressions of in the both ends of the rubber squonk cushion.

Ah I see, so you slip it in after the door is in place?
Yes, the ends slip in-between the window edges and bottle with the door in normal use position. The slight tension of the ends behind the door and center against the bottle keeps it nicely in place. The foam rubber I used is about 5mm or 7/32" thick and I trimmed for its length so that it just touches the inside box edge and the battery on the other side. Easy on the fingers and helps protect bottle from fingernail gouges.

Cool I will have to keep my eyes out for a mousepad or something to chop up and give it a try.

In the mean time I wrapped some electrical tape around my battery with a little bit folded as a handle, it has tightened it up just right.

You'll probably get used to the door, but the electrical tape around the battery with a tab left for pulling the battery out works great to tighten up the door a little. If it really bugs you, you can slide the door down like you're taking it off, but stop about a half inch from the bottom. (Leave the door in the grooves) then apply a little pressure (push down) and it will bow the door just enough to tighten it up. It won't look bent, but it'll make it fit a little tighter in the grooves.

That would've been my suggestion as well. When I first got my grand, I noticed I would shift the battery with my thumb when squonking sometimes and just wanted to tighten that up a bit. Wrapped some tape around the battery, which snugged that up and stopped any play in the door. Win-win.
