I saw someone post this coil build site Coil Toy - Online calculator for e-cigarette resistance coil building and I'm thinking I like it better than the Steam-engine.com site. But that's just me. If you're building a micro coil, just change the "spacing" to 0. It's a pretty cool site.

And IMO, 26 gage is pretty heavy stuff with a very low resistance especially if you want to build coils above 1.0 ohms. for example, 26 gage around a 2 mm post @ 1.5 ohm's = 18 wraps! Around a 2.5 mm post = 12 wraps! For sub ohm builds, it's great though.

Personally I'd start off with 28 gage for higher ohm builds above 1.0. But that's JMHO...:)

Since you are now getting our avalanche of advice, I would only add that you keep what is working for you now, and take the upgrading one step at a time. Otherwise it can get a tad overwhelming As long as you have something that works, the steps ahead can be fun and mistakes are just part of the learning curve.

You already have some cool toys. Enjoy them. Getting comfortable with your kit and your juice is bliss, and the expenses go WAY down. Building coils and doing diy aren't that difficult. Maybe an hour or 2 every couple of weeks, after you get the basics down.

Have fun!

I couldn't agree more! As I stated earlier in this thread (Post #20), I really just want Gel Drops to enjoy herself and the art of vaping. This is just too enjoyable to get frustrated with the subtle and the "not so subtle" nuances of vaping.

Another thing I found very very helpful was I keep a little journal. I write down my gauge wire, my wrap count, my diameter, target resistance, actual resistance, and my wick material. Then I go back after 1 tank and write a note about the experience such as very warm, coil gunked up fast, took a long time to heat up, what mods I used it on, etc. After about 10 builds experimenting, it gets tricky to remember which one's you liked the best. With the journal, I can track what I've done and what I thought of it to reproduce the coil later, or to remind me I did something and sucked bad.

Those are some pics of the first coil I did on my Kayfun clone. It is 30awg Kanthal, 5/64 id, 7 wraps, wicked with peaches and cream cotton yarn. Comes out to 1.8 ohm. Worked amazing. Dont sweat it if your first few tries aren't perfect. It will take you some practice. I just thought I'd share it with you so you could see a good height to be off the deck and what you may like to aim for.

my first build I started out with the Patriot the cheapest one.I built it with two coils it's got three post I'm assuming you can build it would just one coil..anyways I'm definitely going to need some practice what to do in the coils I got frustrated and got up from the table hour later I went back, finished up the best I could using to coils.I broke out my MVP and checked it it was reading. 7 .got out the 30 watt box and had to raised the wattage up close to 30 before the light would stop blinking, very little vapor and it was extremely hot I'm done for today that was great practice.

like I stated I'm trying to build a patriot,it's got three post.when I go into that program that tells you how many wraps you will need do I need to choose the 1 thats is single are the 1 that says double or does it matter I tried it last night and tonight but I'm not going to give up you all told me it will take practice but I'm trying to use that chart he one that lets you put your numbers in and how many you might need to wrap I'm confused on which one to pick do I need to pick 1 Coil or two?

For a single just pick one. For a double pick duel. I always forget if it's parallel or series, so stone else can chime in on that. I don't use the calculator anymore myself. Also do a search on YouTube for single coil patriot build, and you'll see step by step. Don't forget to set your coil diameter or you'll get the wrong amount of wraps.

I put the Patriot up for now could not figure it out,I started on the magma before the Sun even came up I made at least 5 different builds they were all reading around 3.5 ohms on my meter, but i tried 3 different mods and they would not even fire my Mvp read "non" ! was building single coils aiming at 2.5 ohms.I got my biggest tube mod out "18650" and bingo we had energy flowing,I definitely was not going to put it on my cloupor 30 or the ipv v2 50 I sure did not want to break those two new devices.I'm thinking either one of them would have fired it up and I might put it on one of them after while but I am a happy camper I finally made my very first working build.
