Hi, My name is Mary and I am addicted to Cigarettes.
I quit almost 2 years ago and haven't touched one since..I know one will be my downfall.
I see the posts about having one and it was great/yucky/whatever. Those are some lucky people to be able to stick their head in the lions mouth and not get bit. I would be missing my head!

Hi Mary, my name is Jeff and I too am addicted to Cigarettes. I quit more than a year ago and...

Couldn't agree more. Everyone's different, but I've always known that, for me, even one cig could signal the end of my quits. Probably I'm just weak. But I've seen someone very close to me fall off the wagon after trying just one during a weak moment of stress. Then again, it's no bid deal for other folks, so I guess the moral is to Know Thyself and Proceed Accordingly.

:2cool:

NoM, congrats on the quits so far!

Liker I said, and others have noted, it's different for each of us. For some, a cig might not be a big deal. Tell a ...... addict one more main line won't hurt him. That is my line. I look at it and appraoch it the same way. No compromises. It's easier that way for me. I was a 3 PAD three weeks ago. To have even one now... would be an unmitigated disaster for me. Aint gonna happen. Never, ever again. It isn't the caboose that will kill me.

I feel the same way, which is why I have not picked up a cigarette since Oct '09. I am afraid that I'll be back to smoking if I have just one; it has happened to me before.

Well if you do have 1 nomatches, I'll still like you, even if you don't like yourself! I was 1.5 pad for 33 years, it's been 8 months and I've had 4 hits off a cigarette spread over that time. Personally speaking each time I've had a hit it serves as a great reminder why I vape and gives me even more strength to keep vaping. But I too shared your conviction when I first started, you kinda have to for at least the first 6 months.

No matches, I feel the same way. Can't have even 1 analog. But reality is that I am at just over 2 months analog free and I don't even think about smokes anymore. At 3 weeks you are over the worst of it. It is much easier now. My 1st 3 weeks, I was sucking on my pv like it was a pacifier. I was stock piling on batteries, carts ect. I still never leave the house with out 5 batteries, but that is just my own personal paranoia. I still have 3packs of cigs in my freezer from new years eve when I quit. I still love the smell of a fresh lit ciggy (my friend still smokes), but my troat closes up at the thought of taking a drag.
I quit cold turkey once for 8 months. Had 1cig and that was the end of it for me, I was up to a pad within a week and 2pad within a month. Not going to make that mistake again.

Mmc, like you, I have attempted to quit before, many times, in fact. When I was 22 I quit for 3 months. Had one, and it was all over. About 8 years ago I made it through 6 days. I had a beer. Had one cig, and it was all over. Every other attempt lasted less than a day, and started with just ONE cigarette. That just is not going to happen this time.

On previous attempts, I had to quit coffee, beer (or any cocktail) and had to stick to drinking only water, as anything else would trigger an urge, maybe one that would defeat me. After a meal I would suff my mouth with Nicorette and hang on.

With E Cigs, I don't have to deny myself all of those other things I enjoy. Any urges I do get are quickly extinguished by vaping. This is managable. Why tempt fate? Have I learned nothing? I have learned something. It's that first one that can defeat me. I don't need to go there, so why on earth would I?

I find it far easier to live in a black and white world when it comes to smoking. It's just what works for ME.

NoMatches sir... greetings from FBG. Having followed your conquest, the arsenal you've accumulated, your drive, I think you should change your name to "NoMatch." As in, cigarettes are no match vs. vaping. Seems to me you've already embraced it, are enjoying yourself tremendously. You've conquered your monkey, and the only thing you're missing is the savory taste of licking out an ashtray. Mmmmmm mmmmm. Saying you can't chance having one gives cigarettes the appeal and power they just don't have. They are inferior, they are less enjoyable, they are possibly the most depressing thing I've ever crossed paths with. Your body is there. It's a miracle, the opening of a secret escape hatch after years of captivity - don't let your skeptical mind stay there a moment longer. Once you allow your mind to embrace freedom, you'll deliver the last indignity to cigarettes and instead be saying "I could not care less if I ever see another cigarette."

You know yourself and your limits better than anyone, NM. You know you will succeed and have identified the enemy. We are all different, we like different flavors, nicotine strengths, and hardware. Some of us can light up once a year/month/week or day, but some of us never ever again. It's good that you know which of those 2 groups you are in to succeed.

Yes... and it only took 56 years and these miracles called E Cigs to finally arrive and understand MYself. Some have said don't stress, don't put pressure on... but I don't ever want to lose my fear of cigarettes.

As NmNightowl said, I found the escape hatch. But NOW, I know what the trap door looks like. I will not walk on it. I know what the dungeon looks like. I know the demons that live there. Finacial ruin of spensding 25 dollars a day. Hacking, coughing, wheezing, stench, disease. I fear tobacco. I have met my Frodo. Tobacco has met it's defeat, finally and at long last. Now I will be forever vigilant. It is a devious enemy. For me it only needs to have the tiniest leak in the dike to end in a flood. The tiniest ..... in the armour.

I'm happy... no, thrilled, ecstatic. Like a freed slave. Freedom... it is sweet, and it can be lost again if I am not vigilant in it's defense! Never again to be tied to a post!

And that is all that really matters!

Understand yourself. Find what works for you. Act on the knowledge and wisdom you have accumulated.

Congrats, man, you are doing great!

I agree whole heartily with you, my previous attempts to quit were not failures but more like practice runs, with each one I learned a little more about what worked for me and what didn't. For the first time since the age of 12 I have not had a cigarette in 8 weeks... NoMatches, it's funny but around my 3 week mark I really wanted to have just one and it was my autistic son's "black and white" comments that stopped me. Rejoice and be proud of that 3 weeks!

All I can say is dayum! Two PAD? You are in NY...LOL. I am a lightweight in comparison. Thirty-five years at 1-1.5 PAD for the majority of it, then only 5 packs a week for several years B.V. (before vaping).:)

Actually, I was 2 1/2 to 3 PAD. On Long Island, a carton is $97. More in NYC. Yup... almost 3 PAD 22 days ago. So I was spending $25 to almost $30 a day to smoke. M'Boro Lights. Stopped overnight completely. Vaped and smoked for 3 days, then went to zero tobacco. Now that I have all my hardware, a V4L PT in my truck and one on the comp, two autos (which I don't often use) two manuals, a Buzz and an Infinity on the way.

Between carts and juice, I figure I'm vaping for less than $1.50 a day. Now it will take me a long time to pay off all my CC's! But I am saving so much money, it's almost ridiculous!

I don't know if it's pride I feel... more a quiet contentment about quitting now for 22 days. I honestly do not believe I could do it without my E Cigs and companies like V4L. I think of it more like a gift from God, a miracle.
