Seriously, I read that due to the size of the bonded molecule, nicotine in vapor does not readily absorb in the lungs.

I read this is my first week of vaping, an decided to vape like a cigar (drag into mouth, pull towards throat, leave for moment, exhale through mouth or nose.)

Obviously it works as this is the only way I have been vaping for the past 3 months!

Any fear of potential lung damage is also mitigated by simply not inhaling. Potential mouth/throat damage remains.

How many people also vape this way? How many people have noticed a difference, if any?

I choose to inhale as an ex-PAD smoker. It is my routine and I have been able to stay off cigs for almost two months now. I have also read that you do not need to inhale and I proved it to myself. I picked a day and did not inhale at all. I had no nic cravings and everything was fine. As far as I am concerned, you do not need to inhale. It can be a matter of personal preference though. Yet another wonderful thing about vaping. You can customize it to fit your life and needs.

Okay, I began to address your questions but ended up putting points together - so that's the way it ends up now...

ammonia is used in the production of tobacco for smoking to make it easier for the lungs to absorb the nicotine

the grand majority of the nicotine in vaping is absorbed through the nasal membranes if at all

damage in the body is primarily from the additives in tobacco not in the nicotine itself

nicotine is not in itself damaging although it has the potential to be addictive and potentially damaging if used in higher dosages

My habit is to inhale, but I find I tend to shallow-inhale a lot more than with cigarettes, where it was a much larger inhale.

Sometimes I like to hold the vape in my mouth, inhale very shallowly, and trickle it out of my nose. I've been told I look like a broody dragon when I do that.

I guess I should train myself to use my vape that way, but it feels so wrong to me most of the time.

I've generally been a "French-inhaler", even when I smoked tobacco cigs (can we retire the phrase "analog cigs" now, please? :) ). Never inhaled too deeply into the lungs. I still vape that way, but more often than not I've found myself smoking "cigar-style" the past few months. Never even thought about it much until I visited this thread....:)

I used to inhale deep into my lungs until I started reading this thread...
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/modding-forum/284030-wick-materials-safe-vs-dangerous-17.html

Since I started reading that thread I have mostly stopped inhaling into my lungs.

I now inhale into my mouth, then bring the vapor back into my throat until I get a bit of throat hit.
Then I exhale through my mouth and sometimes through my nose as well.

I have not read that entire thread, and I have no idea what the conclusions are on the silica wick issues.
But until I have a definitive answer, or a workable alternative, I won't be inhaling into my lungs very often.

I use to puff cigars for like 20 year 2-4 a day. In the end I was inhaling them and I did not smoke the little girly cigars LOL. I smoke the big dog T cigars. So I was really a hard core addict of both the experience and the nic. I started out an an insane 36-48mg nic. I was vaping so much I got minor headaches so I'm down to 16-24 right now. I inhale because it's hard for me to do that. Plus I just like it. But you do absorb a lot of nic in the mouth and nasal passages.

I vape the same way. I like to savor the taste. It works well. I'm vaping some 18mg now and have a buzz.

Thanks for the replies. I know what you all mean by the simulation of a real smoke (yes, not too keen on "analog" either: to which this vaper will happily retire).

The first couple days it really did help with the transition.

However, I did have a little plan to make the switch to vaping literally painless. The mouth inhale partially resulted as an unintended consequence to my strategy.

Basically, I was a around a 25 a day smoker. So I decided to smoke 2 packs a day for the last 5 days before my PV came.

By the time my PV came, I was literally sick of smoking, and was really dying to stop the smoke inhalation!!

Not that I recommend this strategy at all.....but it worked for me. When my PV came, it was like getting an ice cold Gatorade after a long run in blistering heat. When I read that i didn't have to inhale, I jumped on it. And my lungs thanked me. :2cool:

Checking out that wick thread now.... thanks for the link!

Mostly inhale, but not directly into the lungs. Pull into the mouth, then take a little air with it - just like I did with cigarettes.

Yo! All for retiring this one...

maybe I'm not getting this,,,,,,,

but what's so bad about inhaling??

I think that nobody really knows if it's bad for you or not. It might be as innocuous as air. It might not be. We know short exposures to PG/VG are harmless as proven by their use in nebulizers, but nobody's on a nebulizer all day long. Just as a glass of water is fine...but five gallons too fast is not.
