You can get unflavored pre-mixed in vapable strengths. That's all my dad vapes and he doesn't do any DIY. One thing about it, it does have no smell so it shouldn't affect people who are allergic or have problems with the smells the flavorings cause.

Nice to know. I guess I'm so used to DIY that I haven't looked hard enough for unflavored. I would probably cringe at the cost though LOL!

I actually started vaping BECAUSE of my daughter, I'm a stay at home dad and my 14 month old is too important to toss her into her playpen and leave the house for a smoke a dozen times a day.

I keep fans going to make sure the air circulates and have been planning on getting an air scrubber for the living room (where I vape the most). I stick to liquids that contain little or no VG as the few studies done seem to show that PG is far less likely to cause a reaction.

As someone who has a great deal of allergies (many have been passed onto my poor kid) I know that the fruity/ intense artificial flavors are also most likely to cause issues. I stick to a menthol vape around her and as of yet I haven't seen any kind of issues.

The BIG problem so far is that she is old enough to see me vaping and wants to mimic it. My hardware fell unnoticed out of my pocket twice now and instantly she picks it up and mimics what I do, both times luckily she put the wrong end into her mouth and didn't seem to be trying to inhale, I'm tinking of making some kind of carry case on a lanyard to ensure this stops happening.

I suppose ALL things that are unhealthy by definition cause risks and kids tend to survive around them, we can minimize the risks and thats what is important. In your case the issues are pronounced and that means taking extra steps. It's great you are willing to do so.

I know someone with a heavily asthmatic child who lives in the downtown core of a major city and I cant imagine why she stays there. It's killing her child and she refuses to move somewhere else with out the endless smog and car exhaust because she will have to take a cut in pay or need to take on a different job. Yet she is a anti-smoking nazi and thinks that my vaping is still killing my kid, so far I haven't pointed out the obvious in a dramatic way but I suppose we all make choices.

In your case it seems to be a necessity but perhaps a few air scrubbers and liquids that are less likely to cause a reaction might make all the difference.

Please, please, please ... get a case that your child can't open and use it all the time, every time. 1 true accidental inhale (or even just a leak if she gets the right end in her mouth) could be disastrous!!

I do agree with keeping supplies away from children, especially the juice and DIY nic base. That stuff can be harmfull even to adults. However I don't see any physical harm a single vape can have on a child. Well, other than being horrified by knowing your child actually vaped8-o, and crossing your fingers and hoping no one from social services were peeping through your window at that moment:nun:

Good for you, and your decision to change for your child. I refer to my pv a lot as my "mini fog machine". The vapor does linger, so I just vape where I had smoked before, in the garage. I don't have kids to watch, so it is easier for me to do so. I do hope you can find the right balance that works for you. Good luck, Katie!

I'm going to issue one blanket warning here. No more judgemental posts attacking each other over parenting skills and/or styles. That is not the intent of this thread and I won't tolerate it.

I know the bottle thread turned into that, but so far in this one everybody seems to be in agreement with the OP to make a nice pleasant thread :)

I applaud you for noticing that something is irritating to your daughter and doing something about it.

I do think the thread title is somewhat inflammatory and misrepresents what people have said regarding ecigs. Maybe that could be changed. What I find 'safe' could very well kill another person, like peanuts, shellfish etc.

Thank you. I was trying to think of a way to say this without getting deleted.

IMO, any new thread on the forum that even hints at a medical issue, considering the so-called safety of ecigs that has been much trumpeted, deserves a read and can, by it's very nature, be inflammatory ..

Again, IMO .. we are still the crash test dummies (pardon me for that analogy) .. so information suppied by posters is invaluable in that regard ..

I did not quit the "real thing" to step into something that could potentially be as bad, or worse .. and the jury is still out on that question ..

We certainly are crash test dummies. I hope that the long-term effects will prove to be ability to fly and x-ray vision.

The other thing is I just wish people would be more conservative in their wording of titles. Many people skim titles of threads without reading (for various reasons). Sometimes instead of "Ecigs are not safe" (or other variations on this theme), people should be more inclined to title threads "My person experience with Ecigs" or something along those lines. That is all.

To me, the concept of exhaling vaporized (as some wrongly say) water with flavorings is of little issue.
That said, if a person is sensitive to specific flavors or possibly PG it is worth backing off from doing so in front or around that person.
I think by percentage, we are talking of a small number who could be effected by 2nd hand vape.
Consider the lack of reaction by the vaping" community when taking in a full blown vapor cloud on an inhale. That number of folks effected is ~3 to 4%. Very low and in full concentration. Now thin that out 100x+ and the reactions should be exponentially less again.
Likely if there is reaction, it's flavors, and some of them are totally able to be smelled, and yes, they hang in the air quite a while (unlike what we initially believed), but it also does disappear, whereas smoke clings.

Always remember though.
This is ""HARM REDUCTION"" not ""HARM ELIMINATION"". That said we are still by a measure (still undetermined) between 100-1400X safer than cig smoke. Hey, I'm good with the 100X.

So it's wise to use caution but also put it in it's place by percentages.

( A big research item of mine is in flavorings, and their effects, but mainly singe or burn points....Others (A 500+ page forum subject) are covering burn points of polyfill in carto's and other burn points. So caution it isn't something being smoked in your e-cig by default)
