I started the thread "510 is Pathetic".

I get no satisfaction from 510, 801 or 901. KR808D-1 gives me flavor, but all the flavors are disgustingly sweet, and they all taste the same.

510, 801, 901 = cardboard flavor and no relief.

KR808D-1 = sweet flavor with a little relief that only lasts a few minutes.

Here's my review of the 510:

I'm desperately searching for something that will work for me, and I would very much appreciate your help.

Rick.

Hi Rick

I'm sorry to hear that you are finding things frustrating. It's great to see you are still trying though, many people would likely have given up on ecigs by this point which is a shame.

Firstly the flavours. Are you still smoking tobacco products? If so, this is no doubt muting flavours and I found exactly the same thing until I had been free of smoking tobacco for a couple of weeks. Then the flavours came alive.

You talk about releif and satisfaction. Do you mean pohysical sensation or getting rid of craving I wonder? Or both? Unfortunately you can't reply to me here. We do know that tobacco provides a suite of chemicals that are absent in most e-liquid and this may be to blame. You may wish to investigate tobacco vaporization and use that in tandem with ecigs.

Watching your 510 video, I would say you have a dudd as all the ones I have produce lots of vapour very easily. It could be your charger, they do sometimes come faulty and show a green light at the wrong voltage. Try a voltmeter on the battery and measure your atty resistance and post those up in your thread - might answer some questions.

Anyways, feel free to PM me and I will see if I can work through some of these issues with you. Keep up the search :)

Andy

For the information of my fellow experts – and others reading this thread – I repeat here my post in Rick's "510 is Pathetic" thread:

"Never give up; never surrender!" [I love that line from Galaxy Quest.]

My point being that there must be an atomizer/battery/e-liquid combination that will do the trick. Anything an analog can do a PV can do better. [That reminds me of a song from Annie Get Your Gun, but I shan't sing it.]

  • E-liquid: Sounds like you're not getting enough nicotine hit. What nicotine level are you using? Have you tried adjusting it upward?
  • As for atomizer, I enjoy my 510 (from which I get very little throat hit) and Kr8, but my favorite is the 801 (kind of). I recently "discovered" the M201 (also a penstyle). My experience, thus far at least, is that it performs better (in throat hit and vapor) than the 801. It hits me almost as hard as the 801 on my 5V Prodigy. And that takes us to battery...
  • A big battery mod (even a 3.7V one) will hit harder than an unmodified e-cig (with the possible exception of the new 600 mAh eGO, which is not a battery pack, but a unique e-cig battery). Take your favorite atomizer and attach it to the mod of your choice* and/or use a high nicotine level juice ... and this will work for you.
* These days, there are so many to choose from. Most (but not the very newest) are described in Part 5 and toward the end of Part 6 of the WWV Illustrated Guide referenced in my signature. Recommended factors to consider:

  • Aesthetics: length, thickness, shape, color, designs
  • Voltage: 3.7V, 5V, 6V, 7.4V
  • mAh: 360 up to 3,000
  • Position of the manual switch button: pressed with thumb/forefinger or pinky/ringfinger
And think about the advantages of getting one that can operate at multiple voltages, e.g., Chuck [or BB] (at 3.7 or 6V), XHaler (at any of the above voltages), etc. This way you could see if a high-mAh, low-resistance 3.7V is good for you and adjust upward if needed.
Rick, I just watched your video. That wimpy vapor production is not typical of the 510 at all. There must be something wrong with that atomizer. Has it always been that bad? If not, have you blown it out and cleaned it recently? How many 510 attys have you tried? Are they all that bad? From where did you purchase your 510? [I'm asking you more questions than you asked us.:D]

But your post here focuses on flavor (and throat hit, if that is what you mean by "relief"). Flavor primarily comes from the e-liquid, but the hardware can bring it to fruition, diminish it, or make it harsh tasting. [And, for me, Kr8 cartomizers (unlike GreenCig) impart an undertaste I don't like.] The 510, 801, and 901 atomizers all should deliver the e-liquid's flavor at least adequately ... and, at higher voltage and/or mAh, superlatively.

As for throat hit, I didn't quite catch whether you said you were vaping 16mg or 60mg juice. If 60mg, we should call poison control for you. If 16mg, that may very well not be enough for you. Try 24mg or even 36mg to trim "The claws in my chest pull at me most of the time. The claws don't like to relent." that you mentioned in your "510 is Pathetic" thread. [BTW, I love your vivid imagery! Although not what it is doing to you.]

And, as I previously suggested, beef up the battery that is powering your atomizer.
