Absolutely true story:
I was outside a restaurant on Commercial Drive last fall, having an analog. About 15 feet from me, two guys were sharing a joint. Two cops walking a (very very rare) beat on the Drive come walking down the block. The pot smokers quickly hide their joint when they spot them, but there's maryjane smell everwhere, they were really pulling on the joint. The cops walk by, look at them briefly, but spot me and keep walking. I was right by the door of the restaurant, and there's that 6 meter rule from doors yada yada.
Cop 1 comes up to me and goes "sir, you want to .... that out, or move away from the door, you're not allowed to be smoking this close to an entrance". Cop 2 is standing a few feet back, obviously thinking there'll be trouble from the evil smoker.
I just looked at Cop #1 incredulously. I couldn't help but say "you just walked
through a cloud of joint smell, and made a bee line for me? Un......ing believable". I was near the end of the analog anyway, so I butted it out, turned around without another word and walked back in the restaurant.
But this is the state in Vancouver. Cigarette smokers are almost universally reviled; pot smokers get a pass.
