Well over here in bc I wouldn't be surprised if half the police force were closet potheads, so puffing away on something that looks like a pipe on the west coast might not bring that much attention to anyone

Absolutely true story:

I was outside a restaurant on Commercial Drive last fall, having an analog. About 15 feet from me, two guys were sharing a joint. Two cops walking a (very very rare) beat on the Drive come walking down the block. The pot smokers quickly hide their joint when they spot them, but there's maryjane smell everwhere, they were really pulling on the joint. The cops walk by, look at them briefly, but spot me and keep walking. I was right by the door of the restaurant, and there's that 6 meter rule from doors yada yada.

Cop 1 comes up to me and goes "sir, you want to .... that out, or move away from the door, you're not allowed to be smoking this close to an entrance". Cop 2 is standing a few feet back, obviously thinking there'll be trouble from the evil smoker.

I just looked at Cop #1 incredulously. I couldn't help but say "you just walked through a cloud of joint smell, and made a bee line for me? Un......ing believable". I was near the end of the analog anyway, so I butted it out, turned around without another word and walked back in the restaurant.

But this is the state in Vancouver. Cigarette smokers are almost universally reviled; pot smokers get a pass.

I hear ya on the great contradiction that is Vancouver...I was in the ferry line at Horseshoe Bay on a cold rainy day waiting behind this Escalade that had been idling for the at least 15 mins with a woman and her kids in it. I don't smoke in my car so I got out, stood in the rain and lit a smoke...this chick actually has the nerve to roll down her window and verbally accost me for polluting her and her children's air...I looked at her, at the exhaust coming out of her land yacht, back to her...she didn't get it...I just continued to smoke...my #1 reason to quit analogues was because of the adverse effect they have on others, I only wish others cared about how their stupidity and hypocrisy adversely effects me.

Being alive causes cancer. My point is that people have irrationally placed 2nd hand smoke as the number 1 threat to their health.

Practically every single second hand smoke study has been conducted is a closed environment, such as a smoky bar. However, people equate those risks to smelling smoke outside when it is diluted so much that's it's a non issue.
